Teacher As Curator by Lisa Donovan,Sarah Anderberg Pdf

"Increasingly, across the country, school, district, and postsecondary educators are exploring new avenues for incorporating the visual and performing arts into the core curriculum through interdisciplinary learning called arts integration. Arts Integration is a pedagogy whereby students engage in learning subject matter in and through the arts. The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., a nationally recognized leader for professional artists and arts education defines arts integration as "an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. "Teachers engaged in an arts integrated pedagogy may design lessons through which students act out the lifecycle of a butterfly, dance the structure of DNA, illustrate main ideas in storybooks or rap mathematical formulas and concepts"--

Brexit: The Legal Implications by Andrea Biondi,Patrick J. Birkinshaw,Maria Kendrick Pdf

If Brexit comes to pass, what changes in the United Kingdom legal system will the world face when dealing with the UK? The contributors to this penetrating new collection of studies – a worthy successor to the widely read pre-referendum Britain Alone! – bring a prodigious level of expert scrutiny to the myriad of rami?cations of this hugely complex subject. This book gathers together experts from different ?elds of legal practice and academia, not only to discuss the ongoing negotiations but also – and most valuably – to highlight and address the legal implications of possible scenarios and solutions for a post-Brexit United Kingdom and European Union. With topical chapters based on the Brexit Seminar Series held by the Centre of European Law at King's College London, the contributors address the challenges, options, opportunities, and possibilities that the Brexit process may engender in such areas as the following: – constitutional and administrative law; – the European Economic Area and the European Free Trade Association; – EU State aid; – the Irish border; – the fall-back position of the WTO rules should no agreement be achieved; – banking law, ?nancial services, and capital markets; – debt restructuring and insolvency practice; – environmental issues; – private international law; – tax; – citizenship; – social security; and – residence rights, especially considering women and children. Due to the unprecedented event that Brexit represents, there is an insatiable need for knowledge and technical detail as to its possible legal implications. This book, in its thorough analysis of the ongoing Brexit process and its technical understanding of the meaning of Brexit for several substantive areas of law, offers a solidly grounded and revealing exploration of the future that is particularly enlightening in explaining the challenges that the UK legal order is facing as a consequence of Brexit.

The European Commission in Turbulent Times by Jörn Ege,Michael W. Bauer,Stefan Becker Pdf

Meeting the Challenge of Cultural Diversity in Europe by Robin Wilson Pdf

Europe has talked itself into a refugee and security crisis. There is, however, a misrecognition of the real challenge facing Europe: the challenge of managing the relationship between Europeans and the currently stigmatized ‘others’ which it has attracted. Making the case against a ‘Europe of walls’, Robin Wilson instead proposes a refounding of Europe built on the power of diversity and an ethos of hospitality rather than an institutional thicket serving the market.

Fashion Industry Copes with Covid-19. A Legal, Technological and Sociological Reflection by Marlena Jankowska Pdf

The SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic has halted the global economy and forced its reorganization on many levels. This phenomenon caused a shock, the effects of which will be felt for a long time both on the micro and macro scale. Creative industries, including the fashion and design industries (Textile, Clothing, Leather, and Footwear, TCLF) that are the subject of this publication, are struggling to maintain normal levels of production, employment, financial liquidity. They must additionally confront new challenges in the areas of intellectual property rights and their approach to the e-commerce world. Businesses found themselves faced with an uncertain future and new obstacles, but also with opportunities. These challenges now affect the traditionally fastpaced fashion sector, which has been driven for many years by consumers’ desire for ever more design and by the industry’s own thirst for profit. In the Polish perspective, it should also be borne in mind that, according to the report of PKO Bank Polski in 2019, the clothing industry in Poland showed an upward trend, ranking the country in 8th place in Europe by size of the clothing sector in 2017. As for the entrepreneurs making clothing, in 2017 there were 12,700 of them, placing Poland third in Europe. Finally, for employment, in the same year in Poland, 85,000 were employed in the clothing sector, which was the 5th place in the European ranking. These statistics clearly demonstrate why this sector requires closer analysis in these changed times, including a refreshed SWOT analysis taking account of the new reality. Given this situation, the Center for Design, Fashion and Advertising Law of the University of Silesia initiated research to determine how the clothing sector in Poland is coping and how the legal environment interacts with the Covid challenges. Thanks to a joint effort of scientists and legal practitioners, this publication was created consisting of 39 chapters grouped into the following 12 parts: Social and legal context, International and regulatory context, Product safety, Contracts, Copyright law, Design law and trademark law, Technology law, Unfair competition law, Labour law, Fine arts market, Sustainable Development, E-commerce. The editors would like to thank all of the authors for their efforts examining the development trends in the TCLF sector and for contributing the immeasurable amounts of energy and understanding that allowed us to complete this project. This book is the result of the authors’ significant commitment. Editors would like to give special thanks to Śląski Holding Przemysłowy that shared the company’s expertise about their two large industrial production plants employing over 500 employees, which kept working in a continuous operation system, without a single case of infection by COVID-19. We are grateful to the institutions that undertook honorary patronage of our initiative. Words of thanks go also to the strategic, content and media partners. The premiere of the publication will take place in conjunction with a music premiere, details of which can be found on the cover.

Disability and Postsocialism by Teodor Mladenov Pdf

In the decades following the collapse of state socialism at the end of 1980s, disabled people in Central and Eastern Europe endured economic marginalisation, cultural devaluation and political disempowerment. Some of the mechanisms producing these injustices were inherited from state socialism, while others emerged with postsocialist neoliberalisation. State socialism promised social security guaranteed by the public, and postsocialist neoliberalisation promised independent living underpinned by the market. This book argues that both promises failed as far as disabled people were concerned, drawing on a wide range of scholarly reports and analyses, policy documents, legislation, and historical accounts, as well as on disability studies and social justice theory. Besides differences, the book also illuminates continuities between state socialism and postsocialist capitalism, providing on this basis a more general and historically grounded critique of contemporary neoliberalisation and its impact on individual and collective life. The book will appeal to anyone interested in disability studies and postsocialism, as well as social policy, social movements and critical theory. It will also be of interest to professionals involved in disability-related service provision, as well as to disability activists and policy makers.

Doing Gender in Events by Barbara Grabher Pdf

Exploring the relationship between gender and events, this book delivers an ethnographic analysis of the celebration of gender equality in the context of the culture-led event. Drawing upon Critical Event Studies, Anthropology of the Festive and Gender Studies, this book provides a comprehensive understanding of the entangled, conceptual entities of gender and events. Through a gendered analysis of the culture-led event, Hull UK City of Culture 2017, this work expands epistemological perspectives relevant to the study of events in general and City/ Capital of Culture initiatives in particular. Driven by a feminist, collaborative methodological approach, the book draws on four years of ethnographic, qualitative research in the city of Hull and its celebration of the title, UK City of Culture in 2017 and provides an in-depth analysis of how audiences engage, performances enact, and infrastructures condition the production of cultures of gender equality in the citywide celebration. This will be a valuable resource for upper-level students and academics in the field of Event Studies, Cultural Policy, Geography, Anthropology and Gender Studies.

Conceptualizing Mass Violence by Navras J. Aafreedi,Priya Singh Pdf

Conceptualizing Mass Violence draws attention to the conspicuous inability to inhibit mass violence in myriads forms and considers the plausible reasons for doing so. Focusing on a postcolonial perspective, the volume seeks to popularize and institutionalize the study of mass violence in South Asia. The essays explore and deliberate upon the varied aspects of mass violence, namely revisionism, reconstruction, atrocities, trauma, memorialization and literature, the need for Holocaust education, and the criticality of dialogue and reconciliation. The language, content, and characteristics of mass violence/genocide explicitly reinforce its aggressive, transmuting, and multifaceted character and the consequent necessity to understand the same in a nuanced manner. The book is an attempt to do so as it takes episodes of mass violence for case study from all inhabited continents, from the twentieth century to the present. The volume studies ‘consciously enforced mass violence’ through an interdisciplinary approach and suggests that dialogue aimed at reconciliation is perhaps the singular agency via which a solution could be achieved from mass violence in the global context. The volume is essential reading for postgraduate students and scholars from the interdisciplinary fields of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, World History, Human Rights, and Global Studies.
