Reflections of Life: A Collection of Poems by Donald W. Grant Pdf
Life has a way of reflecting back to us things we want to hear and those we don’t. At times the reflections we get can be overwhelming. My hope is that these poems, based on my reflections, will make you pause, laugh, and hopefully think.
Ice cream, ice cream, who wants ice cream? Hundreds of poets not only said a resounding "yes," but wrote about it. And from those hundreds, I accepted the 125 poems you will find here from 27 different states plus Australia, France, Iraq, Spain, and Tunisia. The poems are as various as the flavors of ice cream: long poems, short poems, and in addition to traditional free-verse narratives and lyrics: experimental poems, poems in forms such as sestinas, sapphics, sonnets, prose poems. When I accepted the job of editing, I wondered if I'd be bored by so many poems about ice cream; I wondered whether there would be hundreds of poems about The Good Humor Man or Dairy Queen. But I needn't have worried, I was never bored. The Good Humor Man and Dairy Queen poems were there, of course, but I was amazed by the wide variety of subjects: light humorous poems, sweet poems, lusty poems, dark poems, poems about childhood memories, a poem about Obama's first date, and a poem with Paul Newman in it. I am pleased with this final collection of ice cream poems. I think readers will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed reading and selecting them. --Patricia Fargnoli, Editor, author of Hallowed (Tupelo Press, 2017)
Reflections Of Life: A Collection Of Poems by Nanki Kandhari Pdf
In “Reflections of Life: A Collection of Poems,” we embark on a journey through the evocative verses of life’s myriad experiences and emotions. Each poem within these pages serves as a window into the human soul, offering glimpses of joy, sorrow, love, and longing. Through my poems, I aim to spread positivity in the world, to make it a better place to live in. In today’s world, where negativity often seems to prevail, I believe that even a glance at these poems can infuse people’s lives with some much-needed positivity. From the tender bonds of siblinghood in “My Sister” to the enigmatic allure of “Him,” we traverse the landscape of relationships and introspection. “High School Nostalgia” transports us back to the innocence and camaraderie of youth, while “Holi” and “Holi: A Kaleidoscope of Science and Color” celebrate the vibrancy and symbolism of this ancient festival. In “Shakti’s Light: Celebrating March Eight,” we honor the resilience and empowerment of women, while “Flower Blossoms” reminds us of nature’s beauty and fragility. The juxtaposition of “Heaven and Hell” prompts contemplation on life’s dualities, while “True Love” and “Angel” explore the depths of human emotion. As we journey through the collection, “The Spark Within” beckons us to rediscover our divine essence and embrace the light within. Finally, “Echoes of the Rainbow” echoes the virtues of hope, resilience, and unity that guide us through life’s trials and triumphs. Through the lens of poetry, we navigate the tapestry of human existence, finding solace, inspiration, and connection in the shared threads of our stories. May these reflections serve as a source of comfort, enlightenment, and introspection for all who embark on this poetic odyssey. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Your willingness to embrace the depth and diversity of human experience is a testament to the power of words to illuminate, uplift, and unite us in our common humanity. Nanki Kandhari

Leaves Falling Upon the Sky by Estelle Watson Sanders Pdf
The collection of poems, Leaves Falling Upon the Sky, a Reflection of a Life So Far, invites the reader to examine ordinary life events such as “Mowing the Lawn” or “Peeling Potatoes” from a unique perspective. Estelle’s way of seeing is, as the title suggests, like looking at autumn leaves drifting upward towards the sky rather than falling down to earth. By looking at our shared experiences from the humorous morning weigh-in depicted in “The Scale” to the serious business of caring for loved ones in “The Sick Child”, the writer shows that we can find meaning in the routines that make up a life. In the Reflections section, the poem “On Ageing” recalls the ageing Ulysses embarking on a new quest as an optimistic view that old age can be a beginning rather than an end. Finally, some thoughts on our shared Covid isolation in “My Library Fridge” and “Acres of Time” demonstrate the variety and relevance of this Reflection of a Life So Far. The works mentioned are just an excerpt from over 50 pieces in this book that I hope you will find inspiring as well as fun to read.
With humor, sensitivity, and a keen sense of history, Don Hattin transports the reader back in time to Scituate as it was during the Great Depression and World War II. He introduces family members, gives a tour of his home, and describes the barn which was setting for much youthful mischief. Next, stories of Hatherly School, its teachers, and its activities, are related in vivid detail. Don entertains with accounts of construction efforts: a "train," playhouse, pirate "ship," underground hideout, tree houses, a boat, and two chicken coops. He acquaints us with several neighborhood characters: "Jere" Ainslie, whose small store featured genuine "penny" candy; "Lonnie" Pratt, hardware clerk at Seavern's Store; "Hymie" Cohen, the ragman; Eloise Curtis, bakeshop entrepreneur; Louis Haartz, hopeful builder of the sloop Rainy Day; "Pa" Swift, builder of $66.00 backyard swimming pool; and a host of playmates and teenage buddies. World War II is recounted in terms of scrap drives; food, gasoline, and shoe rationing; coastal defense; volunteer airplane spotters; emergency training; and air raid drills. Don shares his recollections of work experiences picking apples, sea mossing, grocery clerking, lobster fishing, and truck gardening. He further enlivens "Tales" with vignettes of secondary school teachers, classroom hijinks, athletic misfires, and graduation, among others. The book concludes with his departure for college, where he soon turned eighteen, thus ending a boyhood filled with lively action, lasting friendships and happy memories.
This book, Reflections of Life, depicts a variety of lifes situations that cause us to reflect. We do reflect on life one day at a time, because as the years go by, there are so many events of the past and hopes for the future. There are so many beautiful places such as the hills, mountains, rivers, lakes, flowers, trees, and shrubs. There is also the meeting of people of different cultures and the bonding of friendships. And as we reflect on life, its creation is forever baffling, wondrous, and miraculousas in the birth and life of a human being. Therefore, the result is a reflection of life.
