Fourier-Mukai and Nahm Transforms in Geometry and Mathematical Physics by CLAUDIO BARTOCCI,Ugo Bruzzo,Daniel Hernández Ruipérez Pdf

Integral transforms, such as the Laplace and Fourier transforms, have been major tools in mathematics for at least two centuries. In the last three decades the development of a number of novel ideas in algebraic geometry, category theory, gauge theory, and string theory has been closely related to generalizations of integral transforms of a more geometric character. "Fourier–Mukai and Nahm Transforms in Geometry and Mathematical Physics" examines the algebro-geometric approach (Fourier–Mukai functors) as well as the differential-geometric constructions (Nahm). Also included is a considerable amount of material from existing literature which has not been systematically organized into a monograph. Key features: Basic constructions and definitions are presented in preliminary background chapters - Presentation explores applications and suggests several open questions - Extensive bibliography and index. This self-contained monograph provides an introduction to current research in geometry and mathematical physics and is intended for graduate students and researchers just entering this field.

Homological Mirror Symmetry and Tropical Geometry by Ricardo Castano-Bernard,Fabrizio Catanese,Maxim Kontsevich,Tony Pantev,Yan Soibelman,Ilia Zharkov Pdf

The relationship between Tropical Geometry and Mirror Symmetry goes back to the work of Kontsevich and Y. Soibelman (2000), who applied methods of non-archimedean geometry (in particular, tropical curves) to Homological Mirror Symmetry. In combination with the subsequent work of Mikhalkin on the “tropical” approach to Gromov-Witten theory and the work of Gross and Siebert, Tropical Geometry has now become a powerful tool. Homological Mirror Symmetry is the area of mathematics concentrated around several categorical equivalences connecting symplectic and holomorphic (or algebraic) geometry. The central ideas first appeared in the work of Maxim Kontsevich (1993). Roughly speaking, the subject can be approached in two ways: either one uses Lagrangian torus fibrations of Calabi-Yau manifolds (the so-called Strominger-Yau-Zaslow picture, further developed by Kontsevich and Soibelman) or one uses Lefschetz fibrations of symplectic manifolds (suggested by Kontsevich and further developed by Seidel). Tropical Geometry studies piecewise-linear objects which appear as “degenerations” of the corresponding algebro-geometric objects.

String-Math 2011 by Jonathan Block Pdf

The nature of interactions between mathematicians and physicists has been thoroughly transformed in recent years. String theory and quantum field theory have contributed a series of profound ideas that gave rise to entirely new mathematical fields and revitalized older ones. The influence flows in both directions, with mathematical techniques and ideas contributing crucially to major advances in string theory. A large and rapidly growing number of both mathematicians and physicists are working at the string-theoretic interface between the two academic fields. The String-Math conference series aims to bring together leading mathematicians and mathematically minded physicists working in this interface. This volume contains the proceedings of the inaugural conference in this series, String-Math 2011, which was held June 6-11, 2011, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Moduli of Curves by Joe Harris,Ian Morrison Pdf

A guide to a rich and fascinating subject: algebraic curves and how they vary in families. Providing a broad but compact overview of the field, this book is accessible to readers with a modest background in algebraic geometry. It develops many techniques, including Hilbert schemes, deformation theory, stable reduction, intersection theory, and geometric invariant theory, with the focus on examples and applications arising in the study of moduli of curves. From such foundations, the book goes on to show how moduli spaces of curves are constructed, illustrates typical applications with the proofs of the Brill-Noether and Gieseker-Petri theorems via limit linear series, and surveys the most important results about their geometry ranging from irreducibility and complete subvarieties to ample divisors and Kodaira dimension. With over 180 exercises and 70 figures, the book also provides a concise introduction to the main results and open problems about important topics which are not covered in detail.

The Moduli Space of Curves by Robert H. Dijkgraaf,Carel Faber,Gerard B.M. van der Geer Pdf

The moduli space Mg of curves of fixed genus g – that is, the algebraic variety that parametrizes all curves of genus g – is one of the most intriguing objects of study in algebraic geometry these days. Its appeal results not only from its beautiful mathematical structure but also from recent developments in theoretical physics, in particular in conformal field theory.

Algebraic Structures and Moduli Spaces by Jacques Hurtubise and Eyal Markman Pdf

This book contains recent and exciting developments on the structure of moduli spaces, with an emphasis on the algebraic structures that underlie this structure. Topics covered include Hilbert schemes of points, moduli of instantons, coherent sheaves and their derived categories, moduli of flat connections, Hodge structures, and the topology of affine varieties. Two beautiful series of lectures are a particularly fine feature of the book. One is an introductory series by Manfred Lehn on the topology and geometry of Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces, and the other, by Hiraku Nakajima and Kota Yoshioka, explains their recent work on the moduli space of instantons over ${\mathbb R 4$. The material is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in moduli spaces in algebraic geometry, topology, and mathematical physics.

Grassmannians, Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles by David Ellwood,Emma Previato Pdf

This collection of cutting-edge articles on vector bundles and related topics originated from a CMI workshop, held in October 2006, that brought together a community indebted to the pioneering work of P. E. Newstead, visiting the United States for the first time since the 1960s. Moduli spaces of vector bundles were then in their infancy, but are now, as demonstrated by this volume, a powerful tool in symplectic geometry, number theory, mathematical physics, and algebraic geometry. In fact, the impetus for this volume was to offer a sample of the vital convergence of techniques and fundamental progress, taking place in moduli spaces at the outset of the twenty-first century. This volume contains contributions by J. E. Andersen and N. L. Gammelgaard (Hitchin's projectively flat connection and Toeplitz operators), M. Aprodu and G. Farkas (moduli spaces), D. Arcara and A. Bertram (stability in higher dimension), L. Jeffrey (intersection cohomology), J. Kamnitzer (Langlands program), M. Lieblich (arithmetic aspects), P. E. Newstead (coherent systems), G. Pareschi and M. Popa (linear series on Abelian varieties), and M. Teixidor i Bigas (bundles over reducible curves). These articles do require a working knowledge of algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry and functional analysis, but should appeal to practitioners in a diversity of fields. No specialization should be necessary to appreciate the contributions, or possibly to be stimulated to work in the various directions opened by these path-blazing ideas; to mention a few, the Langlands program, stability criteria for vector bundles over surfaces and threefolds, linear series over abelian varieties and Brauer groups in relation to arithmetic properties of moduli spaces.

Stacks Project Expository Collection by Pieter Belmans,Wei Ho,Aise Johan de Jong Pdf

The Stacks Project Expository Collection (SPEC) compiles expository articles in advanced algebraic geometry, intended to bring graduate students and researchers up to speed on recent developments in the geometry of algebraic spaces and algebraic stacks. The articles in the text make explicit in modern language many results, proofs, and examples that were previously only implicit, incomplete, or expressed in classical terms in the literature. Where applicable this is done by explicitly referring to the Stacks project for preliminary results. Topics include the construction and properties of important moduli problems in algebraic geometry (such as the Deligne–Mumford compactification of the moduli of curves, the Picard functor, or moduli of semistable vector bundles and sheaves), and arithmetic questions for fields and algebraic spaces.
