The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme 2012 by Great Britain: Ministry of Justice Pdf

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme is a government funded scheme to compensate blameless victims of violent crime. Money (an award) is paid to people who have been physically or mentally injured because they were the blameless victim of a violent crime. This current Scheme introduced on 27 November 2012 applies to any application made on or after that date (for any applications made before then different rules may apply). The Scheme is for people injured in England, Scotland and Wales (Great Britain) and the rules of the Scheme and the value of the payments awarded are set by Parliament. Payments are calculated by reference to a tariff of injuries. Claims are considered for the following: personal injury following a single incident; personal injury following a period of abuse; loss of earnings; special expenses payments - to cover specific injury-related requirements which are not available free of charge from any other source; fatal injuries, including loss of parental services and financial dependency; and funeral payments.

EBOOK: Understanding Victims and Restorative Justice by James Dignan Pdf

"Although the topics dealt with are complex, the author has been very successful in presenting and exploring them clearly. Students may find particularly helpful the summary at the end of each chapter of the main points covered in that section. The Legal Executive "...the real strength of this book lies in the critical thinking that arises from the juxtaposition of two very much unfinished debates: the question of how victims are treated by the justice system, and the practices and implications of restorative justice. "...I feel this book is particularly important because it reframes a whole series of debates and practices which, otherwise, might be in danger of getting 'stuck'. That this is also undertaken by someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter and perceptive in relation to key issues is an added bonus." Vista Two of the principal and most influential developments within criminal justice policy - taking in a variety of common law jurisdictions during the past thirty years - have been the rise of the ‘victim movement’ and the emergence of a distinctive set of practices that have become associated with the term ‘restorative justice’. Understanding Victims and Restorative Justice examines the origins of and the relationship between these two sets of developments, and seeks to assess their strengths and weaknesses in meeting the needs of victims as part of the overall response to crime. Written in a lively and accessible style this book is of benefit to students from a range of disciplines including criminology, sociology and the law. Also helpful to professionals, practitioners and policymakers working in voluntary agencies within the criminal justice system.

Federal Employees' Compensation ACT (Feca) by Addison K. James,Filip E. Davis Pdf

The Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) is the workers' compensation program for federal employees. Like all workers' compensation programs, FECA pays disability, survivors, and medical benefits, without fault, to employees who are injured or become ill in the course of their federal employment and the survivors of employees killed on the job. The FECA program is administered by the Department of Labor (DOL) and the costs of benefits are paid by each employees' host agency. Employees of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) currently comprise the largest group of FECA beneficiaries and are responsible for the largest share of FECA benefits. This book examines the key policy issues facing the FECA today, including the disproportionate share of claims and program costs attributed to postal workers, the payment of FECA benefits after retirement age, the overall generosity of FECA disability benefits as compared with those offered by the states, and the overall administration of the FECA program.
