Reunited Kramnik Vs Topalov 2006 the World Chess Championship Match Which Reconciled Fide with the Rebels by Raymond Keene Pdf

Following the split with FIDE when World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov defended his title in a match with Nigel Short in 1993 outside of FIDE, there had been two world chess champions, the "Classical Champion" who had won his title by defeating the current champion in a long match, and the FIDE World Champion who had won one of the World Championship tournaments organized by FIDE. Garry Kasparov lost a match to Kramnik in 2000 so Kramnik became the "Classical World Champion." Numerous efforts to unify the championship by arranging a match between the FIDE Champion and the Classical Champion had fallen through until FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov put up a million dollar prize for a match between Kramnik and the FIDE Champion Topalov. Kramnik won the match but a scandal arose because Kramnik had spent excessive amounts of time on the toilet during the match which may have given him the opportunity to cheat using a cell phone computer. This became known as "The ToiletGate Affair." This book by Grandmaster Raymond Keene proves through in depth analysis of the moves in the games that cheating did NOT occur by either side in the match, because both of them played so badly that cheating could not have been involved. No computer would have made the mistakes that they made. This result is confirmed by computer chess data analysis through an independent computer study that also showed that no cheating was involved.

Play Like a World Champion by F. M. Bill Jordan Pdf

Introduction This book is similar to Rate Your Chess and Rate Your Chess 2 which proved surprisingly popular. It uses a system developed by FIDE master Bill Jordan for coaching. This book features Vladimir Kramnik who became world chess champion in 2006 after defeating Topalov. He lost the title in 2007 to Vishy Anand. Kramnik was from Russia. Kramnik was a great positional player. How many of his moves can you guess? Playing through Games Playing through master games is a proven method of improving. One method is to take one side, usually the winning side, and guess the next move. In the pre-computer era this could be done by covering up the moves with a sheet of cardboard. If you guessed correctly you will score. With practice you will correctly predict more moves. Doing so helps develop chess fluency. One suggested approach was not to take too long on the moves, say about 10 seconds or so. You could score correct guesses. If the move was totally unexpected, then it would be a good time to see if you could understand why the move was played. Every move should have a clear idea behind it. If you cannot see the idea, there is a learning opportunity there. Here there is between one and four choices. This is similar to a multiple choice exam. This is easier than looking at all moves and may mean you examine some moves you would not have normally considered. Diagrams This book has many large clear colour diagrams. You do not need a chess set and board to read this book. You do need to know how to read standard chess notation. How to Score This book consists of games from World Championships with brief annotations for each move. You may simply play over the games for their own sake. To get the most out of this book you play through the games and take the role of the winning player. The winning player will always be playing up the board. Initially all the details of the games will be displayed. For a number of opening moves you will not need to guess the move. The number will vary from game to game and will generally be between 8 and 10 moves (for each side). After these opening moves have been played, you will then try and predict the winning player's moves. Your choice will be selected from a number of candidate moves. If you guess correctly you will score points which will range from 0 to 6. You can either write down or otherwise keep track of your total score and see what category you reach. Rating The score for each game will always be out of 100. Scores may vary from game to game so to get a consistent rating average your score over 10 games. These are based on the FIDE (The international chess federation) rating system developed by Professor Elo. The rating of 2500+ is an approximation of the strength needed to be a Grandmaster. After you have finished a game, find what range your score is in the left column. Your approximate rating is in the right column. 91-100 2500+ 81-90 2400 - 2499 71-80 2200 - 2399 61-70 2000 - 2199 51-60 1800 - 1999 41-50 1600 - 1799 31-40 1400 - 1599 21-30 1200 - 1399 11-20 1000 - 1199 0 -10 below 1000 The challenge is to increase your rating with each game! Further Books Other books in this series are based on the following World champions. Encyclopedia of Play in Today's Society by Rodney P. Carlisle Pdf

CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title for 2009 "This ground-breaking resource is strongly recommended for all libraries and health and welfare institutional depots; essential for university collections, especially those catering to social studies programs." —Library Journal, STARRED Review Children and adults spend a great deal of time in activities we think of as "play," including games, sports, and hobbies. Without thinking about it very deeply, almost everyone would agree that such activities are fun, relaxing, and entertaining. However, play has many purposes that run much deeper than simple entertainment. For children, play has various functions such as competition, following rules, accepting defeat, choosing leaders, exercising leadership, practicing adult roles, and taking risks in order to reap rewards. For adults, many games and sports serve as harmless releases of feelings of aggression, competition, and intergroup hostility. The Encyclopedia of Play in Today's Society explores the concept of play in history and modern society in the United States and internationally. Its scope encompasses leisure and recreational activities of children and adults throughout the ages, from dice games in the Roman Empire to video games today. With more than 450 entries, these two volumes do not include coverage of professional sports and sport teams but, instead, cover the hundreds of games played not to earn a living but as informal activity. All aspects of play—from learning to competition, mastery of nature, socialization, and cooperation—are included. Simply enough, this Encyclopedia explores play played for the fun of it! Key Features Available in both print and electronic formats Provides access to the fascinating literature that has explored questions of psychology, learning theory, game theory, and history in depth Considers the affects of play on child and adult development, particularly on health, creativity, and imagination Contains entries that describe both adult and childhood play and games in dozens of cultures around the world and throughout history Explores the sophisticated analyses of social thinkers such as Huizinga, Vygotsky, and Sutton-Smith, as well as the wide variety of games, toys, sports, and entertainments found around the world Presents cultures as diverse as the ancient Middle East, modern Russia, and China and in nations as far flung as India, Argentina, and France Key Themes Adult Games Board and Card Games Children's Games History of Play Outdoor Games and Amateur Sports Play and Education Play Around the World Psychology of Play Sociology of Play Toys and Business Video and Online Games For a subject we mostly consider light-hearted, play as a research topic has generated an extensive and sophisticated literature, exploring a range of penetrating questions. This two-volume set serves as a general, nontechnical resource for academics, researchers, and students alike. It is an essential addition to any academic library.

Kumba Africa by Sampson Ejike Odum Pdf

‘KUMBA AFRICA’, is a compilation of African Short Stories written as fiction by Sampson Ejike Odum, nostalgically taking our memory back several thousands of years ago in Africa, reminding us about our past heritage. It digs deep into the traditional life style of the Africans of old, their beliefs, their leadership, their courage, their culture, their wars, their defeat and their victories long before the emergence of the white man on the soil of Africa. As a talented writer of rich resource and superior creativity, armed with in-depth knowledge of different cultures and traditions in Africa, the Author throws light on the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa when civilization was yet unknown to the people. The book reminds the readers that the Africans of old kept their pride and still enjoyed their own lives. They celebrated victories when wars were won, enjoyed their New yam festivals and villages engaged themselves in seasonal wrestling contest etc; Early morning during harmattan season, they gathered firewood and made fire inside their small huts to hit up their bodies from the chilling cold of the harmattan. That was the Africa of old we will always remember. In Africa today, the story have changed. The people now enjoy civilized cultures made possible by the influence of the white man through his scientific and technological process. Yet there are some uncivilized places in Africa whose people haven’t tested or felt the impact of civilization. These people still maintain their ancient traditions and culture. In everything, we believe that days when people paraded barefooted in Africa to the swarmp to tap palm wine and fetch firewood from there farms are almost fading away. The huts are now gradually been replaced with houses built of blocks and beautiful roofs. Thanks to modern civilization. Donkeys and camels are no longer used for carrying heavy loads for merchants. They are now been replaced by heavy trucks and lorries. African traditional methods of healing are now been substituted by hospitals. In all these, I will always love and remember Africa, the home of my birth and must respect her cultures and traditions as an AFRICAN AUTHOR.

Magnus Carlsen - Viswanathan Anand 2014 Re-Match for the World Chess Championship by Raymond Keene, OBE Pdf

The match was held in the sports facility in Sochi, Russia on the Black Sea coast that had been constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXII Olympic Winter Games which were held from 7 to 23 February 2014. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, stepped forward and offered to fund the match. This was the first time ever in history that a head of state has offered to sponsor a World Chess Championship Match. The prize fund was one million Euros. This is the minimum prize fund stipulated by FIDE in the official regulations. The prize fund was to be divided 60 percent to the winner and 40 percent to the loser if the match ended within the 12 regular games. In the case that the winner was decided by tie-break games, the winner would have received 55 percent and the loser 45 percent.

World Chess Championship by Raymond Keene Pdf

With FIDE (the World Chess Federation) claiming that its Tournament in Libya - in fact, little more than a rapidplay open - was the world title clincher, this match for the Classical World Chess Championship would confirm one of the two mental matadors -Kramnik or Leko - as the legitimate heir of Steinitz, Alekhine, Fischer and Kasparov. Peter Leko, the Hungarian Grandmaster, qualified from the Dortmund Candidates' Tournament in 2002 to meet Vladimir Kramnik from Moscow, who had unseated Garry Kasparov in London 2000. Although both contenders were noted for their solidity, the clash turned out to be a sporting classic, as Kramnik poured every ounce of energy into the last games in an effort to rescue his title.

Charles Pettigrew, First Bishop-Elect of the North Carolina Episcopal Church (Classic Reprint) by Bennett H. Wall Pdf

Excerpt from Charles Pettigrew, First Bishop-Elect of the North Carolina Episcopal Church As soon as he received the news of his appointment, Pettigrew resigned his position in Bute County and moved to Edenton. He became a member of the Church of England about this time and obtained a position as lay reader of St. Paul's Church in Edenton. Since several members of the vestry of St. Paul's Parish were trustees of the academy, it is reasonable to assume that he had contacted these men and made known to them his desire to become a minister of the Church of England. Whether or not that View is correct, it is known that while occupying the positions of schoolmaster and lay reader he engaged in the studies expected of candidates for ordination in that church. In the spring of 1775 he sailed for London where he was duly ordained deacon and priest by the bishops of London and Rochester.
