Gathered on the Road to Zion by Daniel Lee Hill Pdf

Churches are filled with human beings. It is as a community of human creatures that the church gathers together on Sunday mornings to worship the triune God, and it is as a community of creatures that its members participate in the church’s liturgical life. However, merely noting that the church and human beings are related to one another leaves the nature of this relationship unresolved and undefined. And this raises an important question: How should the doctrine of the church inform our understanding of what it means to be human? This project is an exercise in ecclesio-anthropology, albeit from a Free Church perspective. In it Daniel Lee Hill seeks to discover how the nature, practices, mission, and telos of the church robustly inform our understanding of the human creature.

Road to Zion by Jacob Avisar,Yaʻaḳov Aviśar Pdf

From Ancient Rome, to Czarist and Communist Russia, throughthe white palaces of the Muslim caliphate of Al-Andalus and, finally, to the sandy soil of the Promised Land, soaked with the blood alike of Arabs and the heroic pioneers of the State of Israel; many roads lead the travels of the race of Don Emanuel, tenth Chief of the Jews of Cordova, to a new hope and new beginning, born of strife and terror. This is a rich tapestry of a novel which embraces the troubled history of a nation, through centuries of persecution, to the upheavals and struggles from which was born the still endangered nation of Israel. Jacob Avisar has created a memorable saga which will impress itself vividly on the inner vision of the reader.

Holy Hip Hop in the City of Angels by Christina Zanfagna Pdf

A free ebook version of this title is available through Luminos, University of California Press’s Open Access publishing program for monographs. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. In the 1990s, Los Angeles was home to numerous radical social and environmental eruptions. In the face of several major earthquakes and floods, riots and economic insecurity, police brutality and mass incarceration, some young black Angelenos turned to holy hip hop—a movement merging Christianity and hip hop culture—to “save” themselves and the city. Converting street corners to open-air churches and gangsta rap beats into anthems of praise, holy hip hoppers used gospel rap to navigate complicated social and spiritual realities and to transform the Southland’s fractured terrains into musical Zions. Armed with beats, rhymes, and bibles, they journeyed through black Lutheran congregations, prison ministries, African churches, reggae dancehalls, hip hop clubs, Nation of Islam meetings, and Black Lives Matter marches. Zanfagna’s fascinating ethnography provides a contemporary and unique view of black LA, offering a much-needed perspective on how music and religion intertwine in people's everyday experiences.
