Robust Control of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems by Zhihua Qu Pdf

This timely work presents the definitive treatment of stability analysis and robust control design for nonlinear uncertain systems. While other books on the subject deal with robust control in linear systems, this is the first book to tackle robust control design for such nonlinear entities as power systems, robotics, and more. It combines examples, proofs, and applications-clearly showing how to build high performance and better control into systems that are too complex to be modeled accurately. A unique feature of this book is its Lyapunov-based approach to control design, which is the only universal approach for nonlinear systems. The Lyapunov direct method is used here to develop all design procedures, to correlate leading techniques in the field to the structural properties of uncertain systems, and to compare robust and nonrobust types of controls such as adaptive control, learning control, and optimal control. The subject is introduced with a self-contained treatment of the nonlinear stability theory originally proposed by Lyapunov and LaSalle. Emphasizing the basics, the introductory chapters incorporate three types of solutions, stability concepts, and various theorems. The main body of the text offers a comprehensive treatment for current design methods, including state space robust control designs, properties of various robust controllers, input-output control, and discrete robust control designs. In Robust Control of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems, author Zhihua Qu presents the complete set of control design procedures for nonlinear uncertain systems, including backward recurisve design, forward recursive design, recursive-interlacing design, feedback linearization, nonlinear optimal control, and sub-optimal control. Also featured here is the breakthrough recursive interlacing design that facilitates robust control for uncertain systems with all cascaded, feedback, and feedforward dynamics. Throughout, Professor Qu presents the pros and cons of specific methods, rationales for choosing particular design parameters, and tips on questions of stability, performance, and systems structure. For engineers and graduate students in mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering, Robust Control of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems imparts the technical know-how for effective design, explores key theoretical issues in control, and provides insight into future trends in the field.

Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamic Systems by Rama K. Yedavalli Pdf

This textbook aims to provide a clear understanding of the various tools of analysis and design for robust stability and performance of uncertain dynamic systems. In model-based control design and analysis, mathematical models can never completely represent the “real world” system that is being modeled, and thus it is imperative to incorporate and accommodate a level of uncertainty into the models. This book directly addresses these issues from a deterministic uncertainty viewpoint and focuses on the interval parameter characterization of uncertain systems. Various tools of analysis and design are presented in a consolidated manner. This volume fills a current gap in published works by explicitly addressing the subject of control of dynamic systems from linear state space framework, namely using a time-domain, matrix-theory based approach. This book also: Presents and formulates the robustness problem in a linear state space model framework. Illustrates various systems level methodologies with examples and applications drawn from aerospace, electrical and mechanical engineering. Provides connections between lyapunov-based matrix approach and the transfer function based polynomial approaches. Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamic Systems: A Linear State Space Approach is an ideal book for first year graduate students taking a course in robust control in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.

Robust Control of Linear Systems and Nonlinear Control by M. A. Kaashoek,J. H. van Schuppen,A. C. M. Ran Pdf

This volume is the second of the three volume publication containing the proceedings of the 1989 International Symposium on the Mathemat ical Theory of Networks and Systems (MTNS-89), which was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 19-23, 1989 The International Symposia MTNS focus attention on problems from system and control theory, circuit theory and signal processing, which, in general, require application of sophisticated mathematical tools, such as from function and operator theory, linear algebra and matrix theory, differential and algebraic geometry. The interaction between advanced mathematical methods and practical engineering problems of circuits, systems and control, which is typical for MTNS, turns out to be most effective and is, as these proceedings show, a continuing source of exciting advances. The second volume contains invited papers and a large selection of other symposium presentations in the vast area of robust and nonlinear control. Modern developments in robust control and H-infinity theory, for finite as well as for infinite dimensional systems, are presented. A large part of the volume is devoted to nonlinear control. Special atten tion is paid to problems in robotics. Also the general theory of nonlinear and infinite dimensional systems is discussed. A couple of papers deal with problems of stochastic control and filterina. vi Preface The titles of the two other volumes are: Realization and Modelling in System Theory (volume 1) and Signal Processing, Scattering and Operator Theory, and Numerical Methods (volume 3).

Control of Uncertain Systems with Bounded Inputs by Sophie Tarbouriech Pdf

In practical control problems, many constraints have to be handled in order to design controllers which operate in a real environment. By combining results on robust control and saturating control, this book attempts to provide positive help for practical situations and, as one of the first books to merge the two control fields, it should generate considerable interest in scientific/acad emic circles. The ten chapters, which deal with stabilization and control of both linear and nonlinear systems, are each independent in their approach - some deal purely with theoretical results whilst others concentrate on ways in which the theory can be applied. The book's unity is secured by the desire to formulate control design requirements through constraints on input and model uncertainty description.

Nonlinear Control of Dynamic Networks by Tengfei Liu,Zhong-Ping Jiang,David J. Hill Pdf

Significant progress has been made on nonlinear control systems in the past two decades. However, many of the existing nonlinear control methods cannot be readily used to cope with communication and networking issues without nontrivial modifications. For example, small quantization errors may cause the performance of a "well-designed" nonlinear control system to deteriorate. Motivated by the need for new tools to solve complex problems resulting from smart power grids, biological processes, distributed computing networks, transportation networks, robotic systems, and other cutting-edge control applications, Nonlinear Control of Dynamic Networks tackles newly arising theoretical and real-world challenges for stability analysis and control design, including nonlinearity, dimensionality, uncertainty, and information constraints as well as behaviors stemming from quantization, data-sampling, and impulses. Delivering a systematic review of the nonlinear small-gain theorems, the text: Supplies novel cyclic-small-gain theorems for large-scale nonlinear dynamic networks Offers a cyclic-small-gain framework for nonlinear control with static or dynamic quantization Contains a combination of cyclic-small-gain and set-valued map designs for robust control of nonlinear uncertain systems subject to sensor noise Presents a cyclic-small-gain result in directed graphs and distributed control of nonlinear multi-agent systems with fixed or dynamically changing topology Based on the authors’ recent research, Nonlinear Control of Dynamic Networks provides a unified framework for robust, quantized, and distributed control under information constraints. Suggesting avenues for further exploration, the book encourages readers to take into consideration more communication and networking issues in control designs to better handle the arising challenges.

Nonlinear and Robust Control of PDE Systems by Panagiotis D. Christofides Pdf

The interest in control of nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) sys tems has been triggered by the need to achieve tight distributed control of transport-reaction processes that exhibit highly nonlinear behavior and strong spatial variations. Drawing from recent advances in dynamics of PDE systems and nonlinear control theory, control of nonlinear PDEs has evolved into a very active research area of systems and control. This book the first of its kind- presents general methods for the synthesis of nonlinear and robust feedback controllers for broad classes of nonlinear PDE sys tems and illustrates their applications to transport-reaction processes of industrial interest. Specifically, our attention focuses on quasi-linear hyperbolic and parabolic PDE systems for which the manipulated inputs and measured and controlled outputs are distributed in space and bounded. We use geometric and Lyapunov-based control techniques to synthesize nonlinear and robust controllers that use a finite number of measurement sensors and control actuators to achieve stabilization of the closed-loop system, output track ing, and attenuation of the effect of model uncertainty. The controllers are successfully applied to numerous convection-reaction and diffusion-reaction processes, including a rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition reactor and a Czochralski crystal growth process. The book includes comparisons of the proposed nonlinear and robust control methods with other approaches and discussions of practical implementation issues.
