The 1.5 Billion People Question by Harold Alderman,Ugo Gentilini,Ruslan Yemtsov Pdf

Most of the people in low and middle-income countries covered by social protection receive assistance in the form of in-kind food. The origin of such support is rooted in countries’ historical pursuit of three interconnected objectives, namely attaining self-sufficiency in food, managing domestic food prices, and providing income support to the poor. This volume sheds light on the complex, bumpy and non-linear process of how some flagship food-based social protection programs have evolved over time, and how they currently work. In particular, it lays out the broad trends in reforms, including a growing move from in-kind modalities to cash transfers, from universality to targeting, and from agriculture to social protection. Case studies from Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Sri Lanka, and United States document the specific experiences of managing the process of reform and implementation, including enhancing our understanding of the opportunities and challenges with different social protection transfer modalities.

Sustainable Asset Creation Under Mgnrega by Georgia. L. Thinakaran Pdf

: MGNREGS is a paradigm shift from most other earlier Government programs and schemes. MGNREGS aims to achieve the objective enunciated in Article: 41 of the Indian Constitution-“giving citizens the right to work”. This book explained the implementation procedures of MGNREGS and its impact on household assets procurement, expenditure, and savings pattern. Practical problems faced relating to individual and community asset creation are concentrated in a better way in this book. This book assesses the impact of MGNREGA on household assets and the expenditure pattern of job cardholders. It answers the impact of MGNREGA on the saving patterns and indebtedness of job cardholders. This study evaluates the payment of wages to job cardholders under MGNREGS. It assesses the status of awareness and respondents' perception of the scheme. This book has concentrated on a single block in Tiruchirappalli Taluk, to study in-depth the impact of the scheme. This book is impelled to state that though the study is confined to a small pocket in Southern India the data collected there cannot be treated as insignificant. It reflects the true state of affairs as existing anywhere in India. Overall this book act as a guide to those who want to know the preformation, operation strategy of the scheme, the government support, and the impact of MGNREGA among the stakeholder. Sustaining Global Food Security by Robert Zeigler Pdf

Population growth alone dictates that global food supplies must increase by over 50% in coming decades. Advances in technology offer an array of opportunities to meet this demand, but history shows that these can be fully realised only within an enabling policy environment. Sustaining Global Food Security makes a compelling case that recent technological breakthroughs can move the planet towards a secure and sustainable food supply only if new policies are designed that allow their full expression. Bob Zeigler has brought together a distinguished set of scientists and policy analysts to produce well-referenced chapters exploring international policies on genetic resources, molecular genetics, genetic engineering, crop breeding and protection, remote sensing, the changing landscape of agricultural policies in the world’s largest countries, and trade. Those entering the agricultural sciences and those who aspire to influence public policy during their careers will benefit from the insights of this unique set of experiences and perspectives.

Understanding the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). A Scheme Supporting Economic Development by Rajesh Pal Pdf

Academic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Politics - Topic: Development Politics, , language: English, abstract: This paper investigates how the employment generating scheme MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is different from other employment generating scheme and finds how MGNREGA is supporting economic development by creating community/productive assets at the level of villages. Since 2000, India has experienced rapid economic growth and a sharp decline in poverty. But employment has grown more slowly. Government intervened in the economy through the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which provides employment to unskilled workers in rural areas besides creating community/productive assets at the level of village such as wells, tanks, ponds, roads etc. This programme is designed to provide income protection against poverty in rural area. The choice of works under MGNREGA seeks to address the causes of chronic poverty such as drought, deforestation and soil erosion. MGNREGA is different from other employment and poverty alleviation programme in the sense that it is a legal framework and right to work based programme. This is a paradigm shift from its earlier programmes for it is a bottom-up, demand driven structure with built-in social audits.
