Russian-English Dictionary of Scientific and Engineering Terms by Greta Malyavskaya,Natalia Shveyeva Pdf

A large number of English-Russian and Russian-English specialized dictionaries available to a translator usually contain only terms whose knowledge represents only a apart, although essential, of what is necessary to know to translate a coherent text. In addition to the terms the translator must know with what words the term can be combined in a sentence, what prepositions are need to govern definite verbs, at what place the needed adverb more often stands in a sentence, where to put punctuation marks that the thought expressed by a complex sentence could be understood by the reader; i.e., everything that perhaps at some time in the past was learned from textbooks, but was then forgotten with the passage of time. This book will aid in recalling the forgotten or learning the unknown. Nearly every term/word in this dictionary is accompanied by examples taken from the literature. Undoubtedly the expressions cited do not exhaust the possible versions of translation, but they may aid in expressing the thought in the English language more exactly and sometimes may even prompt a version of translation - the very context of examples can help the translator to select the variant needed. As the dictionary is intended for those who know the English language, explanatory marks are not used. The words and sentences are arranged so that the user could easily distinguish visually the word or word combination needed.

Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terminology by Anonim Pdf

Scientific and technical contacts between nations· have necessitated the publication of various language textbooks, manuals and reference books. Particularly important among them are multilingual scientifio and technical dictionaries. This English-German-French-Dutch-Russian Dictionary of Scientifio and Technical Terms contains some 9000 entries. The main fea ture of the Dictionary is that it includes first and foremost general scientific terms needed by an engineer working in any branch of science and technology. Besides, the Dictionary includes the basic terms used in physics, mathemat ics, the fundamentals of electrical engineering and chemistry, and also the most essential terms pertaining to manufacturing processes. machine design, testing methods, etc. The Compilers were confronted with a difficult task, as nowadays science and technology are developing rapidly and the minimum scientific and tech nical vocabulary required by a specialist is increasing accordingly. The Compilers have taken special pains to include the entire basic mod ern technical vocabulary, omitting superfluous words and phrases. They have tried to solve this problem by selecting mainly those scientific and tech nical terms which constitute the basic of a specialised vocabulary. There fore, the Dictionary includes the vocabulary pertaining to general study courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry, and also in electrical engi neering. electronics and machine design, given in technical colleges irrespect ive of their specification. This lends the Dictionary an «all-purpose» char acter, making it equally useful to scientists and engineers of different countries, who have graduated from colleges with different curricula.

The English-Russian dictionary of technical abbreviations contains nearly 65,000 entries covering various fields and subfields of engineering and technology. Abbreviations are widely used in technical literature and, as a rule, they create difficulties for the reader. Numerous abbreviations are used in technical literature dealing with space, agriculture, electronics, computer science, chemistry, thermodynamics, nuclear engineering, refrigeration, cryogenics, machinery, aviation, business, accounting, optics, radio electronics, and military fields, including abbreviations used on a wide scale by the Navy, Airforce and the Army. There are cases when the same abbreviation may have dozen of meanings, depending on the specific field of engineering. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order. A wide range of literature has been explored for the selection and translation of the abbreviations. The dictionary has been compiled by comparing parallel texts in both languages, and by consultation with experts. This publication will be invaluable to the personnel of designing bureaus and research institutions, and also to translators, scientists, researchers, designers and university personnel dealing with various fields of engineering and technology. approx. 125,000 terms

Dictionary of Electronics by Anonim Pdf

The special interest in electronics all over the world is due to its decisive role in the scien tific and technical progress now taking place in all fields of modern technology. Electronics also plays a decisive role in the development of science, providing as it does the technical basis for various scientific experiments. The role of electronics in the development of the world's culture also deserves a special mention. That is why it is hoped that the English-German French-Dutch-Russian Dictionary of Electronics, which contains some 9.000 entries and is jointly published by Kluwer Technische Boeken, B.V. (Deventer, Holland) and Ruski Yazyk Publishers (Moscow, USSR) will be favourably received. In accordance with existing international tradition, the term «electronics» covers several fields known in Soviet classification as elec tronics proper, radio engineering, and wire communication. The entries included in this dictionary have been selected in accordance with the international understanding of the term «electronics». One of the main difficulties encountered by the compilers was that although according to some calculations the number of terms used in special literature on electronics exceeds 50.000, the vocabulary of the dictionary had to be restricted to only 9.000 entries. Therefore this dictionary cannot claim to be comprehensive. Its purpose is to enable a wide range of specialists in various countries to find the English, German, French, Dutch, or Russian equivalents of the principal and most up-to-date terms in the field of electronics. Most attention has been paid to quantum electronics, fibre optics, optoelectronics, integrated circuit technology, radiolocation and radionavigation, pulse technique, holography, etc.
