Guide to Manual Materials Handling by A. Mital Pdf

Manual Materials Handling MMH creates special problems for many different workers worldwide. Labourers engaged in jobs which require extensive lifting/lowering, carrying and pushing/pulling of heavy materials have suffered increasing rates of musculo-skeletal injury, especially to the back.; This guide is intended to include all activities involved in MMH lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and holding. Recommendations are provided in the form of design data that can be used to design different MMH work activities. The guide is divided into two parts. Part I outlines the scope of the problem, discusses the factors that influence a person's capacity to perform MMH activities and / or should be modified to reduce the risk of injuries, and reviews the various design approaches to solving the MMH problem. Part II provides specific design data in six distinct chapters. The seventh chapter of Part II of the guide describes various mechanical devices that are available to aid MMH activities.; The guide is aimed at all concerned with the health impact of MMH activities; occupational health and safety workers; senior human resource managers; ergonomists; workers' compensation lawyers; union representatives.

Ergonomic Guidelines for Manual Material Handling by Anonim Pdf

"This booklet is written for managers and supervisors in industries that involve the manual handling of containers. It offers suggestions to improve the handling of rectangular, square, and cylindrical containers, sacks, and bags. "Improving Manual Material Handling in Your Workplace" lists the benefits of improving your work tasks. It also contains information on risk factors, types of ergonomic improvements, and effective training and sets out a four-step proactive action plan. The plan helps you identify problems, set priorities, make changes, and follow up. Sections 1 and 2 of "Improvement Options" provide ways to improve lifting, lowering, filling, emptying, or carrying tasks by changing work practices and/or the use of equipment. Guidelines for safer work practices are also included. Section 3 of "Improvement Options" provides ideas for using equipment instead of manually handling individual containers. Guidelines for safer equipment use are also included. For more help the "Resources" section contains additional information on administrative improvements, work assessment tools and comprehensive analysis methods. This section also includes an improvement evaluation tool and a list of professional and trade organizations related to material handling."--Page 6.

Safety in Manual Materials Handling by Anonim Pdf

The problem of injuries from manual materials handling in industry has shown little improvement over many years; the injuries account for 20% to 30% of all injuries in many countries. During 1974, a NIOSH committee produced a report (CDC-99-74-118, Herrin, Chaffin, and Mach) outlining future research needs in this area. These research needs were only able to be prioritized in a relatively simple manner at the time. Following this report, the need was felt for a mechanism to obtain national and international input to help shape NIOSH research policy in the field of Manual Materials Handling Safety. The mechan◆ism chosen to obtain this input was an International Symposium: Safety in Manual Materials Handling, which was held at the State University of New York at Buffalo in July 1976. The objectives of the symposium, and of this book reporting its findings, were two-fold: ~to present a logical and consistent framework for summarizing current knowledge in the field; ~to utilize the expertise of the international community to prioritize future research by NIOSH within the context of research proceeding in other countries. These objectives were accomplished by inviting respected members of the research and safety communities to review parts of the field, thus presenting cur◆rent knowledge in a coherent manner. Twenty-four papers were presented. These began with an overview of the needs of NIOSH, proceeded through a review of the sub-systems of the body stressed in these tasks, continued with numerical models of human performance and safety, reviewed the factors that can affect performance, and ended with problems of implementation of research. In addi◆tion to the speakers, other prominent figures in the field were invited to chair ses◆sions and lead workshops. A number of industries also sent representatives. The research areas above are presented as chapters in this book, with a final chapter summarizing the results of three goal-oriented workshops that took place on the final day of the symposium. The findings of these workshops are sum◆marized in the final recommendations. It is recommended that any future safety standard must include, as a minimum, the weight, size, and position of the load handled and its frequency of handling, as well as indicate which loads need preplacement testing of workers. Future research needs are for improved diagnosis, reporting and job description procedures, new epidemiological studies to determine the effect of particular fac◆tors, and studies to enable the effectiveness of any proposed standard to be esti◆mated.

Anatomy of Movement by Anonim Pdf

Anatomy of Movement presents a dynamic, integrated approach to the study of the physical structures of the musculoskeletal system and their functional relationship to the movements of the human body. In clear and concise text illustrated with more than a thousand graphic drawings, the author guides the reader on a lively tour of the muscles, bones, ligaments and joints of the arms, legs and trunk. The focus throughout the book is on anatomy not for its own sake, but in its functional relationship to the actual movements of the body in dance, exercise, and other physical disciplines. In this newly-revised edition, a majority of the thousand-plus illustrations are new or have been modified by the author from the original edition. The text has also been updated, and the sequencing of the presentation of the musculoskeletal anatomy has been revised in part.
