Science and Health 1875 by Mary Baker Eddy Pdf

A reprint of the historic 1st Edition of the book, Science and Health that over the course of more than 400 editions has uplifted the word Today in the year 2016 - the 150the anniversary year of the discovery of Christian Science in 1866 - it becomes appropriate to look back in time to the revolutionary change in the perception of God and man with which the great uplift began that history tells us coincides with the greatest period of peace in the world. It took Mary Baker Eddy (named Mary Baker Glover at the time) a full nine years of scientific spiritual development until she was ready to publish the first edition of a comprehensive textbook of the science that she had discovered, which is presented in this book. While the book was constantly upgraded in the course of more than 400 editions, since the its first publication in 1875, the revolutionary spirit that shines through its pages from the very beginning is still valid today, and valuable for inspiring healing effects as it did from its first day on. I am republishing the historic text to enable a fuller appreciation of the depth of her work from the beginning, and the great amount of work by Mary Baker Eddy that preceded the final edition of the book in 1910, a labor of love spanning 35 Years. This reprint of the 1st Edition has all of Mary Baker Eddy's errata applied, instead of merely appended. - Rolf A. F. Witzsche

A New Christian Identity by Amy B. Voorhees Pdf

In this study of Christian Science and the culture in which it arose, Amy B. Voorhees emphasizes Mary Baker Eddy's foundational religious text, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Assessing the experiences of everyday adherents after Science and Health's appearance in 1875, Voorhees shows how Christian Science developed a dialogue with both mainstream and alternative Christian theologies. Viewing God's benevolent allness as able to heal human afflictions through prayer, Christian Science emerged as an anti-mesmeric, restorationist form of Christianity that interpreted the Bible and approached emerging modern medicine on its own terms. Voorhees traces a surprising story of religious origins, cultural conversations, and controversies. She contextualizes Christian Science within a wide swath of cultural and religious movements, showing how Eddy and her followers interacted regularly with Baptists, Methodists, Congregationalists, Catholics, Jews, New Thought adherents, agnostics, and Theosophists. Influences flowed in both directions, but Voorhees argues that Christian Science was distinct not only organizationally, as scholars have long viewed it, but also theologically, a singular expression of Christianity engaging modernity with an innovative, healing rationale.

Science and Health (1875) by by Mary Baker Glover Pdf

Mary Baker Eddy (July 16, 1821 - December 3, 1910) was the founder of Christian Science, a new religious movement, in New England in the latter half of the 19th century. Eddy wrote the movement's main textbook, Science and Health (1875), and founded the Church of Christ, Scientist in 1879. She also founded the Christian Science Publishing Society (1898) and The Christian Science Monitor (1908).Eddy was born Mary Morse Baker in a farmhouse in Bow, New Hampshire to farmer Mark Baker (d. 1865) and his wife Abigail Barnard Baker, nee Ambrose (d. 1849). Eddy was the youngest of the Bakers' six children: boys Samuel Dow (1808), Albert (1810), and George Sullivan (1812), followed by girls Abigail Barnard (1816), Martha Smith (1819), and Mary Morse (1821). Mark Baker was a strongly religious man from a Protestant Congregationalist background, a firm believer in the final judgment and eternal damnation, according to Eddy.[2] McClure's magazine published a series of articles in 1907 that were highly critical of Eddy, stating that Baker's home library consisted of the Bible-though Eddy responded that this was untrue and that her father had been an avid reader.Eddy wrote that her father had been a justice of the peace at one point and a chaplain of the New Hampshire State Militia. He developed a reputation locally for being disputatious; one neighbor described him as "[a] tiger for a temper and always in a row.

Science and Health,1875 Edition by Mary Baker Glover (. Eddy ). Pdf

From Publishers Intro: So, why a reprint of a book over 135 years old when there are so many reprints and new editions of the text? Excellent question and one I will endeavor to answer here. Since it is our goal to find and reprint spiritual classics on the verge of falling into the vast abyss, we came upon reference to this work while reading "Lifting the Veil" by Lillian Dewaters, and the following is quoted verbatim from "The Sickle" by William W. Walter, during a discussion on the understanding of Christian Science, excerpted from pages 127-129, 1918 edition. Recently there has arisen a misunderstanding among the students of Christian Science, regarding the correctness of the early editions of "Science and Health, with key to the Scriptures." Some maintain that merely reading the early editions once gave them a much greater depth of understanding, and consequently greater healing power than years of study spent upon the later editions. Others maintain that Christian Science, in its complete purity, is not to be found in the early editions, and further state that Mrs. Eddy later repudiated these early editions as being incorrect in Principle. Mrs. Eddy's own words ought to be the best authority on this question. She wrote, page 55, "Retrospection and Introspection," under the chapter heading of "The Precious Volume"-"The first edition of my most important work, Science and Health, containing the complete statement of Christian Science, the term employed by me to express the Divine, or spiritual Science of Mind-healing was published in 1875." The statement, "the first edition of my most important work, Science and Health, containing the complete statement of Christian Science'' was undoubtedly written in 1891, or sixteen years after: the publishing of the first edition. Thus we see that after sixteen years of teaching, writing and practice Mrs. Eddy still maintained that the first edition was "The Precious Volume" and the one that contained "the complete statement of Christian Science" A Gnostic Audio Selection, includes free access to streaming audio book. The Life of Mary Baker G. Eddy and the History of Christian Science by Willa Cather Pdf

This controversial biography of the founder of the Christian Science church was serialized in McClure's Magazine in 1907-8 and published as a book the next year. It disappeared almost overnight and has been difficult to find ever since. Although a Canadian mewspaperwoman named Georgine Milmine collected the material and was credited as the author, The Life Of Mary Baker G. Eddy was actually written by Willa Cather, an editor at McClure's at that time. In his introduction to this Bison Book edition, David Stouck reveals new evidence of Cather's authorship of The Life of Mary Baker G. Eddy. He discusses her fidelity to facts and her concern with psychology and philosophy that would take creative form later on. Indeed, this biography contains "some of the finest portrait sketches and reflections on human nature that Willa Cather would ever write."

Science & Health - Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy Pdf

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is the most important work of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of The Church of Christ, Scientist. Along with the Bible, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is the central text of the Christian Science religion. Science and Health encapsulates the teachings of Christian Science and Christian Scientists often call it their "textbook."Christian Science develops its theology and its healing method from these simple statements: 1) "God is All-in all." 2) "God is good." 3)"God is Mind, and God is infinite; hence all is Mind." The conclusions are that humans are all perfect spiritual ideas of the one divine Mind, and manifest Spirit, not a material body. The five physical senses, which take no account of Spirit, are the origin of all false beliefs. Adherents of Christian Science claim that sickness is just a belief, not a property of matter. Praying from this standpoint removes the belief and brings healing.
