Uses of Recycled Rubber Tires in Highways by Jon A. Epps Pdf

This synthesis on the use of recycled rubber tires in highways will be of interest to administrators and policy-makers; pavement, materials, geotechnical, environmental, and traffic operations engineers; and research engineers involved with highway design and construction issues. Information is provided on the uses of rubber tires in asphalt paving materials as well as other uses, such as on fills and embankments, for erosion control and on railroad grade crossings. Specifically, information is included which identifies the agencies using or implementing applications for recycled rubber tires and defines the design parameters, technical and construction limitations, performance, costs, benefits, environmental limitations, specifications, and availability. This synthesis of information defines the use of recycled rubber tires in highways and is based on a review of nearly 500 references and on information recorded from state highway agency responses to a 1991 survey of practice. Updates are included for as much of the state practice information possible through 1993. The use of scrap tires for highway applications is dynamic with regard to policy and technical issues. Therefore, the reader should keep in mind that the information presented reflects the best available data at a particular time. The synthesis also identifies current research in the topic area, critical research needs, and legislative issues that affect application and use of recycled rubber tires.

Recycling and Reuse of Used Tyres by Ravindra K. Dhir,Mukesh C. Limbachiya,Kevin A. Paine Pdf

Substantial quantities of used tyres are being discarded annually throughout the world and this is likely to increase in line with the growth in road traffic. Given the environmental economic implications of this waste, the many regulating bodies world-wide are actively promoting policies aimed at recycling and reuse of the material for recovery as a valuable resource. However, in many parts of the world, recycled tyre technology is still in its infancy. This book presents the proceedings of an International Symposium organised by the Concrete Technology Unit, University of Dundee which brings together some of the worlds leading experts in the field of used tyre recycling.

Second Biennial Tire Recycling Conference by DIANE Publishing Company Pdf

Approximately 38% of the 29 million tires that are scrapped each year in California are landfilled, stockpiled, or illegally dumped. The sheer volume of discarded tires presents a real dilemma -- or opportunity. This conference provided up-to-date information on recycling, market developments, & management opportunities for waste tires. Designed to promote alternatives to landfill disposal of waste tires, to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, & to solicit input for the California Integrated Waste Management Board's tire recycling program.

Municipal Solid Wastes by Robert E. Landreth,Paul A. Rebers Pdf

Environmental scientists and engineers are faced with the challenge of how to manage increasing amounts of solid waste. Furthermore, waste management officials are constantly faced with the question "Which option is the most appropriate one in this situation, and how does it compare to other options?" For these individuals, and for the general public, Municipal Solid Wastes: Problems and Solutions helps to answer this and other questions by presenting the issues of waste handling and disposal-from general management concepts to specific techniques. Each topic is carefully reviewed: problems are presented, and possible solutions are discussed. Legislation that affects recycling and disposal is covered.

Encyclopedia of Consumption and Waste by Carl A. Zimring,William L. Rathje, Consulting Editor Pdf

Archaeologists and anthropologists have long studied artifacts of refuse from the distant past as a portal into ancient civilizations, but examining what we throw away today tells a story in real time and becomes an important and useful tool for academic study. Trash is studied by behavioral scientists who use data comĀpiled from the exploration of dumpsters to better understand our modern society and culture. Why does the average American household send 470 pounds of uneaten food to the garbage can on an annual basis? How do different societies around the world cope with their garbage in these troubled environmental times? How does our trash give insight into our attitudes about gender, class, religion, and art? The Encyclopedia of Consumption and Waste explores the topic across multiple disciplines within the social sciences and ranges further to include business, consumerism, environmentalism, and marketing to comprise an outstanding reference for academic and public libraries.
