Sensor Signal and Information Processing II by Wai Lok Woo ,Bin Gao Pdf

In the current age of information explosion, newly invented technological sensors and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Many sensor processing algorithms have incorporated some forms of computational intelligence as part of their core framework in problem solving. These algorithms have the capacity to generalize and discover knowledge for themselves and learn new information whenever unseen data are captured. The primary aim of sensor processing is to develop techniques to interpret, understand, and act on information contained in the data. The interest of this book is in developing intelligent signal processing in order to pave the way for smart sensors. This involves mathematical advancement of nonlinear signal processing theory and its applications that extend far beyond traditional techniques. It bridges the boundary between theory and application, developing novel theoretically inspired methodologies targeting both longstanding and emergent signal processing applications. The topic ranges from phishing detection to integration of terrestrial laser scanning, and from fault diagnosis to bio-inspiring filtering. The book will appeal to established practitioners, along with researchers and students in the emerging field of smart sensors processing.

Intelligent Information Processing II by Qing He Pdf

Data Mining is the process of posing queries and extracting useful information, patterns and trends previously unknown from large quantities of data [Thu, 00]. It is the process where intelligent tools are applied in order to extract data patterns [JM, 01]. This encompasses a number of different technical approaches, such as cluster analysis, learning classification and association rules, and finding dependencies. Agents are defined as software entities that perform some set of tasks on behalf of users with some degree of autonomy. This research work deals about developing a automated data mining system which encompasses the familiar data mining algorithms using intelligent agents in object oriented databases and proposing a framework. Because the data mining system uses the intelligent agents, a new user will be able to interact with the data mining system without much data mining technical knowledge. This system will automatically select the appropriate data mining technique and select the necessary field needed from the database at the appropriate time without expecting the users to specify the specific technique and the parameters. Also a new framework is proposed for incorporating intelligent agents with automated data mining. One of the major goals in developing this system is to give the control to the computer for learning automatically by using intelligent agents.

This volume contains the Proceedings of the 2nd International Workshop on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN 2003). The workshop was held at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Palo Alto, California, on April 22–23, 2003. Informationprocessinginsensornetworksisaninterdisciplinaryresearcharea with deep connections to signal processing, networking and protocols, databases and information management, as well as distributed algorithms. Because of - vances in MEMS microsensors, wireless networking, and embedded processing, ad hoc networks of sensors are becoming increasingly available for commercial andmilitaryapplicationssuchasenvironmentalmonitoring(e.g.,tra?c,habitat, security), industrial sensing and diagnostics (e.g., factories, appliances), inf- structure maintenance (e.g., power grids, water distribution, waste disposal), and battle?eld awareness (e.g., multitarget tracking). From the engineering and computing point of view, sensor networks have become a rich source of problems in communication protocols, sensor tasking and control, sensor fusion, distributed databases and algorithms, probabilistic reasoning, system/software architecture, design methodologies, and evaluation metrics. This workshop took a systemic approach to address crosslayer issues, from the physical sensor layer to the sensor signal processing and networking levels and then all the way to the applications. Following the successful 1st Workshop on Collaborative Signal and Inf- mation Processing in Sensor Networks at PARC in 2001, this new workshop brought together researchers from academia, industry, and government to p- sent and discuss recent work concerning various aspects of sensor networks such as information organization, querying, routing, and self-organization, with an emphasis on the high-level information processing tasks that these networks are designed to perform.

Neural Information Processing and VLSI by Bing J. Sheu,Joongho Choi Pdf

Neural Information Processing and VLSI provides a unified treatment of this important subject for use in classrooms, industry, and research laboratories, in order to develop advanced artificial and biologically-inspired neural networks using compact analog and digital VLSI parallel processing techniques. Neural Information Processing and VLSI systematically presents various neural network paradigms, computing architectures, and the associated electronic/optical implementations using efficient VLSI design methodologies. Conventional digital machines cannot perform computationally-intensive tasks with satisfactory performance in such areas as intelligent perception, including visual and auditory signal processing, recognition, understanding, and logical reasoning (where the human being and even a small living animal can do a superb job). Recent research advances in artificial and biological neural networks have established an important foundation for high-performance information processing with more efficient use of computing resources. The secret lies in the design optimization at various levels of computing and communication of intelligent machines. Each neural network system consists of massively paralleled and distributed signal processors with every processor performing very simple operations, thus consuming little power. Large computational capabilities of these systems in the range of some hundred giga to several tera operations per second are derived from collectively parallel processing and efficient data routing, through well-structured interconnection networks. Deep-submicron very large-scale integration (VLSI) technologies can integrate tens of millions of transistors in a single silicon chip for complex signal processing and information manipulation. The book is suitable for those interested in efficient neurocomputing as well as those curious about neural network system applications. It has been especially prepared for use as a text for advanced undergraduate and first year graduate students, and is an excellent reference book for researchers and scientists working in the fields covered.

Information Processing And Routing In Wireless Sensor Networks by Viktor K Prasanna,Bhaskar Krishnamachari,Yang Yu Pdf

This book presents state-of-the-art cross-layer optimization techniques for energy-efficient information processing and routing in wireless sensor networks. Besides providing a survey on this important research area, three specific topics are discussed in detail — information processing in a collocated cluster, information transport over a tree substrate, and information routing for computationally intensive applications. The book covers several important system knobs for cross-layer optimization, including voltage scaling, rate adaptation, and tunable compression. By exploring tradeoffs of energy versus latency and computation versus communication using these knobs, significant energy conservation is achieved.

Low-power sensors and their applications in various fields ranging from military to civilian lives have made tremendous progress in the recent years. Low-power and extended battery life are the key focuses for long term, reliable and easy operation of these sensors. Sensors and Low Power Signal Processing provides a general overview of a sensor’s working principle and a discussion of the emerging sensor technologies including chemical, electro-chemical and MEMS based sensors. Also included is a discussion on design challenges associated with low-power analog circuits and the schemes to overcome them. Finally, a short discussion of some of the simple wireless telemetry schemes best suited for low-power sensor applications and sensor packaging issues is discussed. Applications and sensor prototypes included are environmental monitoring, health care monitoring and issues related to the development of sensor prototypes and associated electronics to achieve high signal-to-noise ratio will also be presented.
