This is one of three short stories about three Chinese brothers, Ping, Pong, and Pa Dul, who lived with their father, a widower, and a somewhat absent-minded professor. Living near the drum tower, they often played there and Pa Dul was the youngest and rather an imp. He found where the Drum and Bell had been moved and saw that they were deteriorating badly. Not knowing what to do, he finally showed the Drum and the Bell to an out of town friend of his fathers while the three brothers were taking him on a tour to the Drum Tower. The friend was upset to see these historical items being destroyed and wrote a letter to the city officials who repaired and relocated the Drum and Bell. This really happened to me and an American visitor but I wrote the story in a Chinese setting.

China has bulked large in the imagination of the Catholic Church for 500 years. It had been central to the missionary dream of the Jesuits for almost as long. It remains an unsurpassed method of engagement with a rich and ancient people. But the second arrival - from the 1840's - was very different. It was made possible by the arrival of European governments and traders, many of whom came not just for financial gain but to spread their "superior" religion. This work by David Strong in two volumes is the first major treatment of the period from the arrival of the European and eventually American Jesuit missionaries under the protection of the so called Unequal Treaties through to their expulsion after the Communist victory in the long running civil war in 1949. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984, volume 4, contains messages and fellowship given by Brother Witness Lee on July 9 through November 15, 1984, and on July 31 through August 2, 1986. At the end of June Brother Lee returned from Denver, Colorado, to Anaheim, California, and remained there until the first week in October. This book covers various aspects of New Chinese Migration in Suriname in the 1990s and early 2000s. It is an ethnography of New Chinese Migrants in the context of South- South migration, but also a first ethnography of Chinese in Suriname, as well as an analysis of Surinamese ethnic discourse and ethnopolitics.
