Raincloud by Richard Todd Pdf

When the dead and beaten body of Jimmy Raincloud is discovered by a snowplow driver on a rural road, tension heats up between the white population of Scanlon Creek and the Native Americans of Sky Lake. Scanlon Creek and Sky Lake have coexisted uneasily for years, their geographical closeness belying the wide cultural gulf between them. Racial animosity is never far from the surface, and it becomes increasingly volatile as more Native youths are found murdered in the wilderness outside of Scanlon Creek. Primary investigator Hank Gillespie and partner Stephanie Whirlwind delve into the disturbing serial murders. Hank is plagued by vivid nightmares relating to the case, and he believes there may be a link to a mass murder committed by the Reverend Walter Tillman years before. The case proves to be one of police corruption, drug dealing, and depravity. Previous alliances between violent suspects are strained, and new ones are born, as the murders reshape the landscape of the criminal underworld. Hank and Stephanie must try to save their own lives as they uncover the true identity of the killer.

Healthy Is the New Skinny by Katie H. Willcox Pdf

We live in a world where beauty is everything. Society tells us that if we just looked a certain way, if we had the right products, if we were skinny enough, then we would be enough —we would have value. Society is wrong, but it took Katie H. Willcox years to understand this: “Over the course of my 30 short years, I have both worked as a professional model and been the exact opposite of our culture’s beauty ideal. I have struggled with my weight and felt like I didn’t and never would fit in. Then I had a powerful realization: my misery and self-loathing didn’t change with my weight or how ‘pretty’ society thought I was, so my looks weren’t the source of happiness and worth that I had believed them to be. But then, what was? And how had I come to invest so much of myself in beliefs that were so untrue?” In these pages, Katie shares the lessons she learned in her journey to find the answers to these questions. She reveals who gains from our feeling small and why we need to examine the messages we receive from our culture and our families. She explains how we can redefine beauty, make healthy the new “skinny,” and harness the power of our thoughts to choose self-love. Katie encourages us to discover our true magnificent selves, find our purpose, and pursue our dreams —and help others to do the same. Join the movement! Beauty Bias by Bonnie Berry Pdf

Society has always been fixated on looks and celebrities, but how we look has deep ramifications for ordinary people too. In this book, Bonnie Berry explains how social inequality pertains to prejudice and discrimination against people based on their physical appearance. This form of inequality overlaps with other, better-known forms of inequality such as those that result from sexism, racism, ageism, and classism. Social inequality regarding looks is notable in a number of settings: work, medical treatment, romance, and marriage, to mention a few. It is experienced as limitations on access to social power. Berry discusses the pressures to be attractive and the methods by which we strive to alter our appearance through plastic surgery, cosmetics, and the like. Berry also discusses cultural factors, such as the manner in which globalization of media, advertisements, and movies have trended toward homogenization, whereby we are all encouraged to appear tall, thin, white, and with Northern European features even if we are none of those things. She also analyzes the underlying social forces such as economic incentives that, on the one hand, channel us to be as physically acceptable as possible via the sale of diet pills and skin lighteners, and on the other hand, encourage us to accept ourselves as we are by selling us plus-size clothing. The book concludes with suggestions for equal rights extended to all regardless of appearance. Here, Berry describes budding social movements and grassroots endeavors toward an acceptance of looks diversity.

Secrets of a Skinny Jean Queen by Carolyn Gray Pdf

Secrets of a Skinny Jean Queen® A 7-Step Guide to Help You Eat & Act Like You Have Some Sense is about loving and accepting who you are as you work toward your healthiest weight. It is an intense personal narrative of how a pudgy teenager, prone to binge eating, came to understand what led her to overeat and what she needed to do to stop. From growing up in the projects to being abandoned by an alcoholic father and later sexually molested, Carolyn Gray tells it like it is. Her in-your-face approach points readers in the right direction—toward their own skinny jeans. Maybe not size 6 jeans, but quite possibly the pair that has been hanging in their closets for years. With inspired chapters such as “Regroup & Recover” and “Relax & Rethink Your Life,” Gray helps readers deal with what is eating them and provides clear directives on how to eat less, exercise more, and work through issues as they occur. It is time to heal what hurts and create the life you deserve!
