Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification Manual for Clean Development Mechanism Projects by Asian Development Bank Pdf

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), a market mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol, has been successful in supporting mitigation actions through carbon inance. With nearly 7,700 projects and 290 Program of Activities registered by the CDM Executive Board, the CDM allows GHG emission reduction projects in developing countries to generate Certiied Emission Reductions which can be used to ofset mandatory or voluntary emission reduction targets. It however requires a robust monitoring, reporting, and veriication (MRV) to ensure social and environmental integrity of such projects and the emissions reductions thereof. This MRV manual is intended to assist CDM project developers in understanding and managing the MRV requirements and process of their CDM projects in a simple step-by-step manner with the help of real examples and practical tips. While this MRV manual has been developed primarily to assist CDM project developers, it also aspires to be of help for projects participating in other existing and emerging market mechanisms. These may include bilateral mechanisms; voluntary carbon markets; regional, national, and subnational carbon markets; and any of the cooperative approaches and new market mechanism for the post-2020 carbon markets consequent to the Paris Agreement adopted at COP21 in December 2015. As carbon markets in the region evolve beyond CDM, there is a strong need to maintain and further build institutional capacities to ensure growth and enhanced efectivity of carbon markets---and this MRV manual is an efort in that direction.

Rethinking Authority in Global Climate Governance by Thomas Hickmann Pdf

In the past few years, numerous authors have highlighted the emergence of transnational climate initiatives, such as city networks, private certification schemes, and business self-regulation in the policy domain of climate change. While these transnational governance arrangements can surely contribute to solving the problem of climate change, their development by different types of sub- and non-state actors does not imply a weakening of the intergovernmental level. On the contrary, many transnational climate initiatives use the international climate regime as a point of reference and have adopted various rules and procedures from international agreements. Rethinking Authority in Global Climate Governance puts forward this argument and expands upon it, using case studies which suggest that the effective operation of transnational climate initiatives strongly relies on the existence of an international regulatory framework created by nation-states. Thus, this book emphasizes the centrality of the intergovernmental process clustered around the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and underscores that multilateral treaty-making continues to be more important than many scholars and policy-makers suppose. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of global environmental politics, climate change and sustainable development.

Demystifying Carbon Markets by Michiel Arnoldus,Roger Bymolt Pdf

Setting up a social and environmentally sustainable business is hard work. Most entrepreneurs struggle to raise investment capital and make a small profit. Carbon credits can be a welcome source of additional revenue for those businesses and projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But where do you start? Practical information that is easy to apply to your specific situation is hard to find. The information you can find is often either too general, or full of complicated terminology. Hiring an expert is risky without an indication of whether you will be able to earn the money back. As a result many entrepreneurs are discouraged and never properly explore the possibilities of carbon credits, or get stuck somewhere in the process. This book is a beginner s guide for entrepreneurs who want to assess whether they can generate additional revenue with carbon credits. It provides a concise overview of the basics of carbon credits with a minimum of jargon, and illustrated with practical examples from real cases. Topics include: What are carbon credits? What are the basic requirements for a business or project to produce carbon credits? Where and how are they sold? What are the current prices and what influences these? Who are the different players in the industry, and what do they do? What are the different steps in the development of a carbon offset project? How do I choose a certification standard? How can I estimate the amount of carbon credits and revenue I can generate? This book addresses these questions in a way that is relevant to a wide variety of project types. Particular attention is given to the challenges of smaller projects in developing countries as well as forestry, agroforestry and biofuel projects."

Future Carbon Fund by Asian Development Bank Pdf

Asia and the Pacific is home to more than 60% of the world's population and 62% of the global economic output. But the region still faces enormous development challenges and with economic growth, it has become a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This has exposed Asia and the Pacific to the impacts of climate change, threatening to undo the development gains from economic prosperity over the past decades. This report reflects how Clean Development Mechanism projects supported by the Future Carbon Fund not only reduce GHG emissions but deliver social, environmental, and economic co-benefits contributing to sustainable development in the region. This report also presents qualitative and quantitative analysis of these co-benefits.

The International Climate Change Regime by Farhana Yamin,Joanna Depledge Pdf

This book presents a comprehensive, authoritative and independent account of the rules, institutions and procedures governing the international climate change regime. Its detailed yet user-friendly description and analysis covers the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol, and all decisions taken by the Conference of the Parties up to 2003, including the landmark Marrakesh Accords. Mitigation commitments, adaptation, the flexibility mechanisms, reporting and review, compliance, education and public awareness, technology transfer, financial assistance and climate research are just some of the areas that are reviewed. The book also explains how the regime works, including a discussion of its political coalitions, institutional structure, negotiation process, administrative base, and linkages with other international regimes. In short, this book is the only current work that covers all areas of the climate change regime in such depth, yet in such a uniquely accessible and objective way.
