App and Website Accessibility Developments and Compliance Strategies by Akgül, Yakup Pdf

In the present digital world, the growing number of internet users has made web quality an important factor for accessing online services and increasing the customer base of an organization. The advances in information technology and the internet have opened new dimensions in many different industries. Currently, accessibility research is an active area of research. Specifically, access for everyone regardless of disability has become an essential aspect of web development. As webpages will be used by both nondisabled and disabled individuals, web pages must be designed with a technical criterion that fits universal needs. The ambition to make websites barrier-free is not limited to standards and laws but has been on the agendas of all governments and public agencies recently, and this universality of websites is a fundamental area of research. App and Website Accessibility Developments and Compliance Strategies intends to provide theoretical and practical contributions for the accessibility of websites for both disabled and nondisabled individuals. This book discusses how web quality parameters like usability and accessibility are being evaluated for their universal design and accessibility by different types of disabled individuals. The chapters cover the current methodologies for evaluation, accessible design criteria, inclusive practices in web and app development, and policies and interventions across different types of websites. This book is ideally intended for web developers, designers, software engineers, IT specialists, social organizations, governments, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students in the usability and accessibility of websites for disabled individuals.

Framework for Designing and Implementing Accessible Information and Communication Technology (Ict) Strategic Plans by U. S. Department U.S. Department of Labor Pdf

As technology continues to transform the workplace, demand is growing for the development, purchase, maintenance and use of information and communication technology (ICT)1 that is accessible to and usable by all applicants and employees, including individuals with disabilities. Leading companies recognize that fostering an accessible workplace is the smart thing to do, both from a business standpoint and a legal perspective. This paper provides a framework that can be used to develop technical assistance tools to help employers (including government contractors) design, purchase, lease, maintain and use ICT that is accessible to and usable by people with disabilities and others. More specifically, the Framework can be used as a tool for self-assessment to make easy point-by-point comparisons with current strategies and practices. In addition, the Framework can help a company develop a corporate-wide, comprehensive strategic plan (affirmative action program, where applicable) for adopting and implementing accessible ICT policies, practices and procedures for assessing progress made over time and ensuring continuous improvement. Further, the Framework can be used as a tool for internal staff development and training. In addition to the Framework, the paper also includes a comprehensive Benchmarking Tool, located in the Appendix, which companies could use to conduct a self-assessment and create their own corporate-wide, comprehensive strategic plan (affirmative action program, where applicable), including accountability mechanisms and methods for ensuring continuous improvement. This Benchmarking Tool is organized in accordance with the key components of an Accessible ICT Strategic Plan outlined herein.

Critical Technology Accessibility by National Research Council,Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences,Committee on Critical Technology Accessibility Pdf

In 2003, the Defense Intelligence Agency asked the NRC to form a standing committee to help develop study topics about technology warning. One issue that was identified was the growing dependence on foreign suppliers of critical technology as a result of the increase in globalization of economic activity. Two important questions emerged for study: what is the risk of denial of critical products from foreign sources and what must the United States do to assure access to future critical products and technologies? This report presents an assessment addressing those two questions. It also provides an analysis of a strategic approach to manage the consequences of this trend towards increased globalization. Finally, the report offers a set of recommendations to implement this strategy and to increase assurance of access to critical technologies.

Geopolitics, Geography and Strategic History by Geoffrey Sloan Pdf

This volume examines geopolitics by looking at the interaction between geography, strategy and history. This book addresses three interrelated questions: why does the geographical scope of political objectives and subsequent strategy of states change? How do these changes occur? Over what period of time do these changes occur? The theories of Sir Halford Mackinder and Nicholas Spykman are examined in order to provide an analytical narrative for five case studies, four historical and one contemporary. Taken together they offer the prospect of converting descriptions of historical change into analytic explanations, thereby highlighting the importance of a number of commonly overlooked variables. In addition, the case studies will illuminate the challenges that states face when attempting to change the scope of their foreign policy and geo-strategy in response to shifts in the geopolitical reality. This book breaks new ground in seeking to provide a way to understand why and how the geographical scope of political objectives and subsequent strategy both expands and contracts. This book will be of much interest to students of geopolitics, strategic studies, military history, and international relations.

Impacts and strategic outcomes from non-mega sport events for local communities by Marijke Taks,Laurence Chalip,B. Christine Green Pdf

Do small- and medium-sized sporting events affect the overall wellbeing of people living in the host community? If so, how they do they affect local life? This book specifically addresses the strategic choices that host communities make when hosting non-mega sporting events, and looks at the outcomes of those choices. The contributions to this study assess a variety of tangible and intangible effects, including the economic and social impacts, and the effect on tourism and participation in sport. It contains analysis of a variety of events, including spectator and participant events, single-sport and multi-sport events, and one-day and multi-day events, all hosted in different types of cities and communities around the globe. Overall, this book identifies and extends our understanding of the nature, management, and implications of non-mega sporting events. The impacts and strategic outcomes highlighted here have practical value for sport event management and strategy, and advance our understanding of the economic and social consequences of hosting an event. This book was originally published as a special issue of European Sport Management Quarterly.

OECD Urban Studies Improving Transport Planning for Accessible Cities by OECD Pdf

Cities are places of opportunity. They provide not just jobs but a whole range of public, cultural, social and consumption amenities. Transport is what connects people to these opportunities and cities provide access with varying degrees of success – especially when it comes to modes of transport that favour a green transition. This report argues that building sustainable transport networks for accessible cities requires a holistic planning approach, a sound institutional framework, reliable sources of funding, strong governmental capacity, and should build on community engagement.

Best Practice in Accessible Tourism by Dimitrios Buhalis,Simon Darcy,Ivor Ambrose Pdf

This volume focuses on policy and best practice in accessible tourism, reflecting the "state-of -the-art" as expressed in a selection of international chapters. It brings together global expertise in planning, design and management to inform and stimulate providers of travel, transport, accommodation, leisure and tourism services to serve guests with disabilities, seniors and the wider markets that require good accessibility. Accessible tourism is not only about providing access to people with disabilities but also it addresses the creation of universally designed environments that can support people that may have temporary disabilities, families with young children, the ever increasing ageing population as well as creating a safer environment for employees to work. The book gives ample evidence that accessible tourism organisations and destinations can expand their target markets as well as improve the quality of their service offering, leading to greater customer satisfaction, loyalty and expansion of business.
