Structure of Antigens by Marc H. V. Van Regenmortel Pdf

Structure of Antigens discusses a variety of topics dealing with the structural basis of antigenicity. Topics include the analytical methods used to elucidate the structure of antigens, the structure of antibodies, the principles underlying modern immunoassays and the measurement of antibody binding affinity, and physicochemical principles and methodological aspects. The book also considers major groups of antigens distinguished by their functional activity and biological role (e.g., drugs, autoantigens, snake toxins, allergens) or by their association with particular biological systems (e.g., antigens of microorganisms). Structure of Antigens will provide a current, useful, reference for researchers and graduate students in all fields of biological science who need an overview of antigenic specificity. VOLUME II

Structure and Function of Antibodies by Roy Jefferis,Koichi Kato,William R. (Bill) Strohl Pdf

This book provides a detailed description of all kinds of therapeutic antibodies including IgGs, IgAs, IgEs, and IgMs, bispecific antibodies, chimeric antigen receptor antibodies, and antibody fragments. Details about how each of these antibodies interact with their ligands, the immune system, and their targets are provided. Additionally, this book delves into the details of antibody, Fc, and variable chain structures, and how subtle changes in structure, charge, flexibility, post-translational modification, and the ability to bind to natural antibody ligands can result in a significant impact on antibody activity and functionality. Finally, the book explains the critical quality attributes of modern therapeutic antibodies and how to ensure that antibodies entering development have the best possible chance of success.

Structural Biology in Immunology by Chaim Putterman,David Cowburn,Steven Almo Pdf

Structural Biology in Immunology, Structure/Function of Novel Molecules of Immunologic Importance delivers important information on the structure and functional relationships in novel molecules of immunologic interest. Due to an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the immune system, the approach to the treatment of many immune-mediated diseases, including multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease has been dramatically altered. Furthermore, there is an increasing awareness of the critical role of the immune system in cancer biology. The improved central structure function relationships presented in this book will further enhance our ability to understand what defects in normal individuals can lead to disease. Describes novel/recently discovered immunomodulatory proteins, including antibodies and co-stimulatory or co-inhibitory molecules Emphasizes new biologic and small molecule drug design through the exploration of structure-function relationship Features a collaborative editorial effort, involving clinical immunologists and structural biologists Provides useful and practical insights on developing the necessary links between basic science and clinical therapy in immunology Gives interested parties a bridge to learn about computer modeling and structure based design principles

The Antigens by Michael Sela Pdf

The Antigens, Volume I is a comprehensive treatise covering all aspects of antigens, including their chemistry and biology, structure and function, their initiation of the immune response, and the nature of the products of this response. The nature of the reaction of antigens with antibodies and with sensitized cells is also explored. Comprised of seven chapters, this volume begins with a discussion on the antigenic functions of nucleic acids as well as their immunogenicity, hapten functions, and serologic reactions. The reader is then introduced to the immunochemistry and antigenic determinants of enzymes, along with the structure and phylogeny of immunoglobulins and immunoglobulin allotypes. The evolution of proteins and their structure and function is also considered, paying particular attention to evolution by the random fixation of selectively neutral alleles, the rates of protein evolution, gene duplication, and divergence or convergence. The final chapter is devoted to the chemistry and biology of immunoglobulin E as well as the regulation of formation of their antibodies. This book will be of interest to practitioners and researchers in immunology, experimental and clinical medicine, biochemistry, and other disciplines.

Bacterial Lipopolysaccharides by Yuriy A. Knirel,Miguel A. Valvano Pdf

The bacterial lipopolysaccharide also known as endotoxin is exhaustively covered in the present work. Central emphasis is placed upon the fine chemical structure of the lipopolysaccharide and its significance for understanding their activity and function. In particular, the role it plays in the interaction of bacteria with other biological systems is examined. New aspects of their physicochemical biology are introduced and updates to the current knowledge concerning the lipopolysaccharide are provided. This important class of biomolecules has recently attracted the attention of many investigators, in particular for understanding its involvement in innate immunity, toll-like receptor recognition and intracellular signaling.

Structure of Antigens by Marc H. V. van Regenmortel Pdf

Volume 3 of Structure of Antigens presents analytical methods used to elucidate the structure of antigens. As in the first two volumes, this reference focuses on the structure and analysis of antibody binding sites. It brings together the structural basis of major types of antigens, including lysozyme, cytochrome c, muscle proteins, cereal and milk proteins, carbohydrate antigens, and more. Major groups of antigens associated with particular biological systems, such as the cytoskeleton, muscle proteins, and viral antigens, are discussed. This reference analyzes the molecular basis of antibody specificity and the structure of T cell epitopes.

Fungal Antigens by Edouard Drouhet,Garry T. Cole,Louis De Repentigny,Jean Latge Pdf

Three years ago when Professor Garry Cole visited our Mycology unit at the Pasteur Institute we discussed the possibility of organizing a small International Symposium on "Isolation, Purification and Detection of Fungal Antigens" limited to 8 American/Canadian scientists and to 8 French participants. The location chosen was the Pasteur Institute because of the historical and current importance of the Institute as a Center for Research in Immunology and Medical Mycology. The interest demonstrated by all medical mycolo gists we contacted led us to expand the small original meeting to an international symposium in which all aspects of antigens of pathogenic and allergenic fungi and actinomycetes related to man, animals, and even plants would be discussed. Our wish was also to hold this Symposium in the same week as the Anniversary meeting of the French Society of Medical Mycology which was founded at the Pasteur Institute 30 years ago with my colleagues Gabriel Segretain and Francois Mariat.

Immunology of Silicones by Michael Potter,Noel Rose Pdf

This issue of Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology records the proceedings of a Workshop on the Immunology of Sili cones held at the Natcher Conference Center, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, March 13 and 14, 1995. A large num ber of investigators from North America and Europe met to discuss available data on how the immune system responds to silicones and related materials. Some aspects of this field are controversial. Nonetheless, the meeting was marked by a civil and open ex change of scientific information and divergent interpretations, re flecting the traditions of scientific communication. Each invited participant was asked to submit an article sum marizing his/her presentation. Most of the papers are published as submitted, with only editorial changes to conform with the guide lines given to each contributor or revisions to clarify aspects of the paper. The papers should not be regarded as peer-reviewed publi cations. This preface will attempt to outline some of the immu nological areas of investigation relating to silicones.
