Studies in World Affairs by Ed. K.R Gupta Pdf

In Recent Years, Phenomenal Developments Have Taken Place In The Field Of International Relations. With The Disintegration Of The Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics [Ussr], Bipolar World Has Given Place To A Unipolar World With The United States Playing A Dominating Role In World Affairs. The Functioning Of The United Nations Organisation Has Been Under Great Strain Particularly Because Of The Behaviour Of The United States Under The Regime Of George W. Bush. The United States Has Been Flouting The Provisions Of The United Nations. A Recent Example Of This Is The Unilateral Action Taken By It In Iraq In Spite Of Strong Opposition From The United Nations And Many Other Countries. Likewise, It Has Recently Brushed Aside Some Good International Agreements (For Example On Nuclear Testing, World Criminal Court, Land Mines, Etc.) And Dismissed Some Others (The Kyoto Convention On Global Warming) With An Insouciance Unbecoming To The World S Biggest Producer Of Greenhouse Gases.Furthermore, It Has Been Dominating The United Nations Organisations Like The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, International Finance Corporation, Etc. The Grant Of Loans By The Financial International Institutions Is Considerably Influenced By The United States Instead Of Being Guided Strictly By Commercial And Financial Prudence. The United Nations Undoubtedly And Urgently Needs To Reform, Resurrect And Update. Impact in International Affairs by James Gow,Henry Redwood Pdf

This book examines how and to what extent academic research in politics and international studies has had 'impact' — in doing so, it also considers what might characterise ‘world-leading’ research impact. International Relations was always meant to have impact – it was intended to make a difference in the world, when the subject was formally founded to understand and prevent war in 1919. This volume addresses the concept of ‘impact’ and offers a typology of the term — instrumental, conceptual, capacity building and procedural. The authors examine 111 impact case studies in the UK Research Excellence Framework (2014) that were classified as having achieved the highest level of evaluation, and they identify eight characteristics that mark ‘world-leading’ impact. The book concludes that process and public and media engagement are previously underestimated aspects of impact in official approaches. It further demonstrates that achieving the top levels of impact in international relations is possible, but that factors such as the nature of the subject, the approach of researchers and mean-spiritedness in the peer review process inhibited this. This book will be of much interest to students of politics and international studies, as well as educational research and policy makers, and anyone interested in, or working on, research impact.

Perspectives on International Relations by Henry R. Nau Pdf

Perspectives on International Relations: Power, Institutions, and Ideas shows students new to the field how theories (perspectives) of international affairs—realism, liberalism, constructivism (identity), and critical theory—play a decisive role in explaining every-day debates about world affairs. Why, for example, do politicians and political scientists disagree about the causes of the ongoing conflict in Syria, even though they all have the same facts? Or, why do policymakers disagree about how to deal with North Korea when they are all equally well informed? The new Sixth Edition of this best-seller includes updates on Brexit, the rise of Donald Trump and other populist leaders, and continuing developments for ISIS, Syria, and Russia.
