Summary of I’m Glad My Mom Died by Alexander Cooper Pdf

I’m Glad My Mom Died - A Comprehensive Summary Jennette McCurdy is redefining what it means to write a celebrity memoir with an attention-grabbing title and the last sentence that leaves you speechless. It would be unfair and insulting to dismiss this book as a "celebrity memoir." It is an engrossing, detailed, and intensely personal story of one overcoming many traumatically formative childhood traumas that resulted in adolescence marked by exploitation, eating disorders, drug misuse, and loss. The way this narrative is delivered is quite similar to fiction. She writes in the present tense, dragging us along very closely with her as she grows in what seems like real-time, even though the book is entirely non-fiction. She realistically develops from a helpless little girl to a strong, independent woman who can think critically about the world around her, and we, the readers, get to see this growth and evolution firsthand. McCurdy's voice is crisp, humorous, and well-honed; she has a writing talent, which she notes a few times throughout the book as one of her great joys. The fundamental ideas in this book are dismal, yet the author describes them in a style that is both hilarious and brutally honest. Overall, this was an impressive start from a much more unique and prominent person. This isn't going to be a "tell-all" full of drama, so don't expect it to be. There are a few tidbits regarding her tenure at Nickelodeon, particularly concerning her interactions with The Creator, as she refers to him, but that's about it. She briefly mentions the connections she had with her co-stars, but any discussion of her acting career is only included if it is essential to understanding her whole journey. This book is as gloomy and enlightening as it is mixed with comic relief and informed understanding. As a result of reading her story, I have tremendous respect for this lady. The whole planet owes Jennette. I'm Glad My Mom Died chronicles Jennette's detailed and explicit life before and after entering the entertainment business, up to the discussions about publishing this book. It explores her familial dynamics, her mother's very violent and poisonous relationship with her, and all of the interactions that took place in the background. At the same time, she struggled—trying to please her mother and her job, abusing drugs to stay unconscious, engaging in harmful habits, and rarely acting in her own best interests. Summary of Jennette Mccurdy's I'm Glad My Mom Died by Everest Media, Pdf

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I unwrap the present in front of me, which is wrapped in Christmas paper even though it’s the end of June. I peel off the paper, because I know Mom likes to save a wrapping paper scrap from every present. #2 I was disappointed when I opened my sixth birthday present, which was a two-piece outfit featuring Angelica, my least favorite character, surrounded by daisies. I loved it anyway. #3 I lock eyes with my mother so she will know I care about her, that she’s my priority. I respect that about her. She gives me one of her big nose-wrinkling smiles that makes me feel like everything’s going to be okay. #4 I can’t believe how upbeat I was when my surroundings were so obviously heavy. I was two. I feel tremendous guilt every time we rewatch the home video. How could I not have known better. What a stupid idiot.

We Were Dreamers by Simu Liu Pdf

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “Like your favourite superhero, within the first few pages, this book made me feel like I could do anything.” —Shifter Magazine “This real-life hero’s journey is a knockout.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) The star of Marvel’s first Asian superhero film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, shares his own origin story of being a Chinese immigrant, battling cultural stereotypes and his own identity, becoming a TV star and landing the role of a lifetime In this honest, inspiring and relatable memoir, newly minted superhero Simu Liu chronicles his family’s journey from China to the bright lights of Hollywood with razor-sharp wit and humour. When Simu Liu’s parents move from China to America and then Canada, they leave him in the care of his grandparents. When he is four, they bring him to Canada. Life as a Canuck, however, is not all that it was cracked up to be; Simu’s new guardians lack the gentle touch of his grandparents, resulting in harsh words and hurt feelings. His parents, on the other hand, find their new son emotionally distant and difficult to relate to—although they are bound by blood, they are separated by culture, language and values. As Simu grows up, he plays the part of the pious child flawlessly—he gets straight A’s, wins national math competitions and makes his parents proud. But as time passes, he grows increasingly disillusioned with the path that has been laid out for him. Less than a year out of college, at the tender age of twenty-two, his life hits rock bottom when he is laid off from his first job as an accountant. Left to his own devices, and with nothing left to lose, Simu embarks on a journey that will take him far outside his comfort zone into the world of show business. Through a swath of rejections and comical mishaps, Simu’s determination to carve out a path for himself leads him to not only succeed as an actor but also open the door to reconciling with his parents. We Were Dreamers is more than a celebrity memoir—it’s a story about growing up between cultures, finding your family and becoming the master of your own extraordinary circumstances.

The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu Pdf

A wildly original, fantastical adventure—and now an animated move, Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart—this international bestseller will charm readers of all ages. Edinburgh, 1874. Born with a frozen heart, Jack is near death when his mother abandons him to the care of Dr. Madeleine—witch doctor, midwife, protector of orphans—who saves Jack by placing a cuckoo clock in his chest. And it is in her orphanage that Jack grows up among tear-filled flasks, eggs containing memories, and a man with a musical spine. As Jack gets older, Dr. Madeleine warns him that his heart is too fragile for strong emotions: he must never, ever fall in love. And, of course, this is exactly what he does: on his tenth birthday and with head-over-heels abandon. The object of his ardor is Miss Acacia—a bespectacled young street performer with a soul-stirring voice. But now Jack’s life is doubly at risk—his heart is in danger and so is his safety after he injures the school bully in a fight for the affections of the beautiful singer. Now begins a journey of escape and pursuit, from Edinburgh to Paris to Miss Acacia’s home in Andalusia. Mathias Malzieu’s The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a fantastical, wildly inventive tale of love and heartbreak—by turns poignant and funny—in which Jack finally learns the great joys, and ultimately the greater costs, of owning a fully formed heart.

Open Book by Jessica Simpson Pdf

The #1 New York Times Bestseller Jessica reveals for the first time her inner monologue and most intimate struggles. Guided by the journals she's kept since age fifteen, and brimming with her unique humor and down-to-earth humanity, Open Book is as inspiring as it is entertaining. This was supposed to be a very different book. Five years ago, Jessica Simpson was approached to write a motivational guide to living your best life. She walked away from the offer, and nobody understood why. The truth is that she didn’t want to lie. Jessica couldn’t be authentic with her readers if she wasn’t fully honest with herself first. Now America’s Sweetheart, preacher’s daughter, pop phenomenon, reality tv pioneer, and the billion-dollar fashion mogul invites readers on a remarkable journey, examining a life that blessed her with the compassion to help others, but also burdened her with an almost crippling need to please. Open Book is Jessica Simpson using her voice, heart, soul, and humor to share things she’s never shared before. First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her book shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture cliché’s — “chicken or fish,” “Daisy Duke,” "football jinx," “mom jeans,” “sexual napalm…” and more. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

What My Mother and I Don't Talk About by Michele Filgate Pdf

“You will devour these beautifully written—and very important—tales of honesty, pain, and resilience” (Elizabeth Gilbert, New York Times bestselling author of Eat Pray Love and City of Girls) from fifteen brilliant writers who explore how what we don’t talk about with our mothers affects us, for better or for worse. As an undergraduate, Michele Filgate started writing an essay about being abused by her stepfather. It took her more than a decade to realize that she was actually trying to write about how this affected her relationship with her mother. When it was finally published, the essay went viral, shared on social media by Anne Lamott, Rebecca Solnit, and many others. This gave Filgate an idea, and the resulting anthology offers a candid look at our relationships with our mothers. Leslie Jamison writes about trying to discover who her seemingly perfect mother was before ever becoming a mom. In Cathi Hanauer’s hilarious piece, she finally gets a chance to have a conversation with her mother that isn’t interrupted by her domineering (but lovable) father. André Aciman writes about what it was like to have a deaf mother. Melissa Febos uses mythology as a lens to look at her close-knit relationship with her psychotherapist mother. And Julianna Baggott talks about having a mom who tells her everything. As Filgate writes, “Our mothers are our first homes, and that’s why we’re always trying to return to them.” There’s relief in acknowledging how what we couldn’t say for so long is a way to heal our relationships with others and, perhaps most important, with ourselves. Contributions by Cathi Hanauer, Melissa Febos, Alexander Chee, Dylan Landis, Bernice L. McFadden, Julianna Baggott, Lynn Steger Strong, Kiese Laymon, Carmen Maria Machado, André Aciman, Sari Botton, Nayomi Munaweera, Brandon Taylor, and Leslie Jamison.
