Seven Samurai Swept Away in a River by Jung Young Moon Pdf

In his inimitable, recursive, meditative style that reads like a comedic zen koan but contains universes, Seven Samurai Swept Away in a River recounts Korean cult writer's Jung Young Moon’s time spent at an artist’s and writers residency in small-town Texas. In an attempt to understand what a “true Texan should know,” the author reflects on his outsider experiences in this most unique of places, learning to two-step, musing on cowboy hats and cowboy churches, blending his observations with a meditative rumination on the history of Texas and the events that shaped the state, from the first settlers to Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald. All the while, the author is asking what a novel is and must be, while accompanied by a fictional cast of seven samurai who the author invents and carries with him, silent companions in a pantomime of existential theater. Jung blends fact with imagination, humor with reflection, and meaning with meaninglessness, as his meanderings become an absorbing, engaging, quintessential novel of ideas.

Covina Swept Away by Christopher S. M. D. Chenault Pdf

Covina, Swept Away By Christopher S. Chenault, M. D. A number of towns in the Midwest and South have changed little over the last one hundred years. It is possible to return to one's hometown and see the town and many old landmarks little changed. This is not at all true of most of the towns of Southern California. Many areas of Southern California have been transformed from agricultural land to land for shopping centers and tract home over the past sixty years. The San Gabriel valley, east of Los Angeles, was the largest exporter of citrus fruit in the world in the 1930s and 1940s and had a hundred years history of agricultural use. In a period of fifteen years, 1950 to the mid-1960s, all of those vast acres of serene rural life were swept away in that wave of humanity that arrived after WW II to occupy the space for jobs, recreation, and raising families. There is now almost nothing left of that serenity. As a child in the 1940s and a teenager in the 1950s, I watched as this transformation progressed. We played hopscotch, marbles, and danced to the "Mexican Hat Dance" during grade school. We modified cars, went to the Sugar Bowl for sodas, and danced to Big Band sounds and Rock and Roll in high school. We watched drag races on Gladstone Avenue and at the Pomona drag strip. In poodle skirts and saddle shoes or corduroys and loafers, we live the 1950s in the residual of small town, agricultural Covina and witnessed a community go from one high school and two grammar schools in 1950 to add twenty-three new schools by the early 1960s. I have attempted to describe those years of tranquility, document our activities, and illustrated the varied attractions that would draw a family to that area. We were fortunate enough to experience swimming in the cool pacific, take trips to Arrowhead, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon, camp with the scouts at Cherry Cove on Catalina Island, Ski on Mount Baldy and go with groups of kids to Big Bear and the new Disneyland. We also endured the blackouts in Santa Barbara during WW II and sugar rations collected at the City Hall In an autobiographical format, I have presented the move of my family to California and included the stories of families of my schoolmates whose ancestors immigrated to Southern California. And I have documented the activities of the time to give flavor to the area during this period that was to be the end of the one hundred year agricultural use of the land.

Swept Away! God's Retribution "Day" by Francis Smith Jr. Pdf

The ancient prophets were a different breed. Though embedded in the midst of the people, administering and serving in much the same capacity as their counterparts, an inner longing to know set them apart. It was not enough to be a minister of the Lord; they wanted to know the intent of the one for whom they ministered. For them the morning sunrise was the beginning of another days inquiry, an inner desire to belie life on a rock eternal. It is through them the Creator finds voice, as the prophet scans the worlds panorama with spiritual eyes, ever longing that all people would see what they see and understand what is heard. It is the cry Moses had for Israel, that all would be prophets. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:2021 NIV). The Bible is both history and a prelude of history with an impeccable purpose. It does not deviate in dealing with three objectives: the fall of humanity, its redemption, and final liberation. As a worlds best seller, it is faulted for removing the mystique, updating and critiquing future events only as those events occur. Until the Bible deliberates, the archives of world history are mere fillers of rampant human instinct. But its final resolution is here, with immense biblical documentation, with the promise to be understood by all people. Keeping in mind that Gods intent remains to redeem and liberate, even to the very door of human extinction.
