Tainted Beauty by A. C. Dyke Pdf

It's 1992 and the "second summer of love" has hit Britain in full force, as New Age travellers and early '90s ravers converge around the legendary first ever Castlemorton Common festival. On his voyage of free-spirit debauchery and naive search for love, Nathan Hancock finds himself infatuated with the troubled and wayward Rosalind. Unfortunately for her, Rosalind's lust for the vices that defined the raving scene of the early '90s lands her in the company of the vicious Grivens brothers, and at the centre of a heartless attack that leaves her left for dead. In retaliation Nathan loses it, brutally murdering the man responsible. Still reeling from the bloody fallout of that initial Castlemorton Common Festival, Tainted Beauty picks up 23 years later as Nathan is released from prison. Attempting to pick up the pieces of the life that he left behind, Nathan roams Britain without a purpose. That is, until he discovers that Rosalind didn't actually die in the attack of '92. With a new lease in life, Nathan takes off in search of the woman he became obsessed with all of those years ago. However, it doesn't take long before he realises that when you have a past as dark as his, the world doesn't always let you wipe the slate clean. With Tainted Beauty, author A.C. Dyke offers a critical examination of the violent and oppressive underworld of Britain. Relationships, justice and morality are called into question in Dyke's hauntingly hard-hitting crime thriller, as the line between good and evil becomes blurred with every new revelation. Fuelled on drugs, poverty and senseless violence, Dyke casts an atmospherically bleak background against his mature tale of revenge and redemption."

Ezra Pound and the Symbolist Inheritance by Scott Hamilton Pdf

In this revisionary study of Ezra Pound's poetics, Scott Hamilton exposes the extent of the modernist poet's debt to the French romantic and symbolist traditions. Whereas previous critics have focused on a single influence, Hamilton explores a broad spectrum of French poets, including Thophile Gautier, Tristan Corbire, Jules Laforgue, Remy de Gourmont, Henri de Rgnier, Jules Romains, Laurent Tailhade, Paul Verlaine, and Stphane Mallarm. This exploration of Pound's canon demonstrates his logic in borrowing from the French tradition as well as a paradoxical circularity to his poetic development. Hamilton begins by explaining how Pound read Gautier's poetry as an example of Parnassianism and of the "satirical realism" of Flaubert and the modern novelistic tradition. He reveals, however, a crucial blind spot in Pound's poetic vision that facilitated his return to precisely those romantic and proto-symbolist elements in Gautier that were celebrated by Baudelaire and Mallarm, and that Pound, as a modern poet, felt obliged to repress. Arguing that Pound's response to symbolism was not specifically modernist, Hamilton shows how his dual attraction to the lyric and prose traditions, to symbolism and realism, and to the visionary and the historical helps us better to understand our own post-modern sensibility. Hugo Wolf and his Mörike Songs by Susan Youens Pdf

Viennese composer Hugo Wolf produced one of the most important song collections of the nineteenth century when he set to music fifty-three poems by the great German poet Eduard Mörike. Susan Youens reappraises this singular collaboration to shed new light on the sophisticated interplay between poetry and music in the songs. Wolf is customarily described as 'the Poet's Composer', someone who revered poetry and served it faithfully in his music. Yet, as Youens reveals, this cliché overlooks the rich terrain in which his songs are often at cross purposes with his chosen poetry. Although Wolf did much to draw the world's attention to the neglected Swabian poet, his musical interpretation of the poetry was also influenced by his own life, psychology and experiences. This book examines selected Mörike songs in detail, demonstrating that the poems and music each have their own distinctive stories which at times intersect but also diverge.

The Politics of Love by Maxime Foerster Pdf

What would love be if heterosexual couples were no longer assigned gender and sexual norms? Maxime Foerster examines the Òheterosexual troubleÓ between men and women in nineteenth-century French Romantic and Decadent literature. Key works by authors ranging from George Sand to Charles Baudelaire persistently demonstrate that heterosexuality did not work: these authors, and many others, investigated the struggle that men and women alike waged against patriarchal norms. Whereas Romantic fiction dedicated itself to the reinvention of love, Decadence promoted sexual and gender deviance. In expertly evaluating the discord afflicting fictional heterosexual couples, male and female dandies, and doctors and their female patients, Foerster shows the crucial role that literature played in the fashioning of alternative identities. A concluding look at ProustÕs Ë la recherche du temps perdu traces the legacy of heterosexual trouble in the twentieth century.
