Taxation of Individual Retirement Accounts (2021) by David J. Cartano Pdf

Taxation of Individual Retirement Accounts comprehensively analyzes all the tax laws applicable to individual retirement accounts. The book is divided into three parts. The first part of the book discusses the 16 different types of IRAs, including the two most recent types authorized by the tax laws: the deemed IRA and the myIRA. The second part discusses the various areas of tax law relating to the operation and administration of an IRA. There is a separate chapter on each area of the tax law. The third part of the book deals with taxation of distributions from an IRA, including premature distributions, minimum distributions during lifetime and after death, withholding taxes, and estate taxes. It also deals with the tax rules applicable to the different types of beneficiaries receiving distributions from an IRA, including foreign beneficiaries, charitable beneficiaries, trust beneficiaries, estate beneficiaries, spouse and nonspouse beneficiaries, and individual and non-individual beneficiaries.

Assessing Chile's Pension System: Challenges and Reform Options by Samuel Pienknagura,Christopher Evans Pdf

Chile’s pension system came under close scrutiny in recent years. This paper takes stock of the adequacy of the system and highlights its challenges. Chile’s defined contribution system was quite influential when introduced, and was taken as an example by other countries. However, it is now delivering low replacement rates relative to OECD peers, as its parameters did not adapt over time to changing demographics and global returns, while informality persists in the labor market. In the absence of reforms, the system’s inability to deliver adequate outcomes for a large share of participants will continue to magnify, as demographic trends and low global interest rates will continue to reduce replacement rates. In addition, recent legislation allowing for pension savings withdrawals to counter the effects from the COVID-19 pandemic, is projected to further reduce replacement rates and increase fiscal costs. A substantial improvement in replacement rates is feasible, via a reform that raises contribution rates and the retirement age, coupled with policies that increases workers’ contribution density.

What We Owe Each Other by Minouche Shafik Pdf

From one of the leading policy experts of our time, an urgent rethinking of how we can better support each other to thrive Whether we realize it or not, all of us participate in the social contract every day through mutual obligations among our family, community, place of work, and fellow citizens. Caring for others, paying taxes, and benefiting from public services define the social contract that supports and binds us together as a society. Today, however, our social contract has been broken by changing gender roles, technology, new models of work, aging, and the perils of climate change. Minouche Shafik takes us through stages of life we all experience—raising children, getting educated, falling ill, working, growing old—and shows how a reordering of our societies is possible. Drawing on evidence and examples from around the world, she shows how every country can provide citizens with the basics to have a decent life and be able to contribute to society. But we owe each other more than this. A more generous and inclusive society would also share more risks collectively and ask everyone to contribute for as long as they can so that everyone can fulfill their potential. What We Owe Each Other identifies the key elements of a better social contract that recognizes our interdependencies, supports and invests more in each other, and expects more of individuals in return. Powerful, hopeful, and thought-provoking, What We Owe Each Other provides practical solutions to current challenges and demonstrates how we can build a better society—together.

The Real Estate Retirement Plan by Calum Ross Pdf

A Globe and Mail Bestseller! A guide for Canadians on how to use real estate as an investment and retirement solution. Leveraging equity in a principal residence and using it wisely to purchase rental property is the solution to a safe, secure retirement for millions of Canadians. Many Canadians who own their home have never considered buying a second property. And nearly one-third of retirees are worried about running out of money. The Real Estate Retirement Plan shows how homeowners can use the tools already available to them — their mortgages — to access the initial capital to invest and prepare for their retirement. This is a proven, validated antidote to today’s historically low savings rates, poor current rates of return, and pressure on CPP and health care. With examples and a detailed discussion of the principles and mechanics, Calum Ross and Simon Giannini demystify real-estate investing and make an irrefutable case for borrowing to invest.
