Teaching and Learning the Love of God by Joseph Ratzinger Pdf

This inspiring collection of homilies delivered by Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) over six decades offers deep theological and historical insights on the meaning of the life and the witness of a Catholic priest. When Pope Benedict XVI inaugurated the Year for Priests in 2009, he did so in conjunction with celebrating the 150th anniversary of the death of John Vianney, the patron saint of all parish priests. Benedict's purpose for that special year is the same purpose of this book of homilies—to deepen the commitment of all priests to interior renewal for the sake of a stronger and more incisive witness to the Gospel in today's world. As St. John Vianney would often say, "The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus." This touching expression makes us reflect on the immense gift that priests represent, not only for the Church but for all mankind. Contemporary men and women need priests to be distinguished by their determined witness to Christ. These homilies are meant to illuminate and to inspire priests to renew their commitment to "teaching and learning the love of God". The homilies cover a wide variety of important topics on the priesthood, all deeply rooted in Scripture, including acting in persona Christi, becoming an offering with Christ for the salvation of mankind, being there for God's mercy, and witnessing Christian joy.

Living in Love and Faith by The Church of England Pdf

Issues of gender and sexuality are intrinsic to people’s experience: their sense of identity, their lives and the loving relationships that shape and sustain them. The life and mission of the Church of England – and of the worldwide Anglican Communion – are affected by the deep, and sometimes painful, disagreements about these matters, divisions brought into sharper focus because of society’s changing perspectives and practices, especially in relation to LGTBI+ people. Living in Love and Faith sets out to inspire people to think more deeply both about what it means to be human, and to live in love and faith with one another. It tackles the tough questions and the divisions among Christians about what it means to be holy in a society in which understandings and practices of gender, sexuality and marriage continue to change. Commissioned and led by the Bishops of the Church of England, the Living in Love and Faith project has involved many people across the Church and beyond, bringing together a great diversity and depth of expertise, conviction and experience to explore these matters by studying what the Bible, theology, history and the social and biological sciences have to say. After a Foreword from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, the book opens with an invitation from the Bishops of the Church of England to embark on a learning journey in five parts: Part One sets current questions about human identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage in the context of God’s gift of life. Part Two takes a careful and dispassionate look at what is happening in the world with regard to identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage. Part Three explores current Christian thinking and discussions about human identity, sexuality, and marriage. In the light of the good news of Jesus Christ, how do Christians understand and respond to the trends observed in Part Two? Part Four considers what it means for us as individuals and as a church to be Christ-like when it comes to matters of identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage. Part Five invites the reader into a conversation between some of the people who have been involved in writing this book who, having engaged with and written Parts One to Four, nevertheless come to different conclusions. Amid the biblical, theological, historical and scientific exploration, each part includes Encounters with real, contemporary disciples of Christ whose stories raise questions which ask us to discern where God is active in human lives. The book ends with an appeal from the Bishops to join them in a period of discernment and decision-making following the publication of Living in Love and Faith. The Living in Love and Faith book is accompanied by a range of free digital resources including films, podcasts and an online library, together with Living in Love and Faith: The Course, a 5-session course which is designed to help local groups engage with the resources, also published by Church House Publishing.

This revised edition of the well-received The Outrageous Idea of Academic Faithfulness includes updates throughout, two new substantive appendixes, personal stories from students, a new preface, and a fresh interior design. Learning to Love and Loving to Learn by Emmelienne Schreiner Pdf

Dr. Schreiner's book, Learning to Love and Loving to Learn, is a breakthrough study dealing with relationships in the family, the immediate family, and the extended family. She teaches the need for a strong spiritual value system as the basis for learning to love and loving to learn. Dr. Schreiner touches on such subjects as appropriate discipline, positive encouragement, helping children to reach their full potential, and how to make learning an exciting adventure for all ages. She deals with relevant problems of the twenty-first century, including such issues as addictions, codependency, and the trap of instant gratification. She stresses the need for families to develop self-control and to set realistic limits. She teaches parents how to develop problem-solving skills in their children so they can live more effectively in our troubled times. The book opens the door for learning to be an exciting adventure as readers learn to love and to love learning. Spiritual growth comes from gaining new information and insight and using that knowledge in your everyday life. The author describes the spiritual principles that bring families closer as they learn about themselves and parents free themselves from effects of having been raised in an addictive, incestuous, or otherwise dysfunctional family. Examples of how children and adults of all ages learn are included in every chapter. The workbook, included at the end of the book, will help readers to identify the effects their parents' words and methods of disciplining and showing love has had on their own self-concept and automatic behaviors. Automatic behaviors are emotional and sometimes physical responses to situations and events that arise because the event unconsciously reminds the reader of a similar childhood happening. Sometimes automatic behaviors are positive and sometimes negative and unwanted. The workbook will help readers to look at and edit the source of their automatic behaviors thereby enabling them to change their undesirable responses.

Why I Love the Apostle Paul by John Piper Pdf

"Besides Jesus, no one has kept me from despair, or taken me deeper into the mysteries of the gospel, than the apostle Paul." —John Piper No one has had a greater impact on the world for eternal good than the apostle Paul—except Jesus himself. For John Piper, this impact is very personal. He does not just admire and trust Paul. He loves him. Piper gives us thirty glimpses into why his heart and mind respond this way. Can a Christian-killer really endure 195 lashes from a heart of love? Can a mystic who thinks he was caught up into heaven be a model of lucid rationality? Can an ethnocentric Jew write the most beautiful call to reconciliation? Can a person who lives with the unceasing anguish of empathy be always rejoicing? Can a man's description of the horrors of human sin be exceeded by his delight in human splendor? Can a man with a backbone of steel be as tender as a nursing mother? If we know this man—if we see what Piper sees—we too will love him. Paul's testimony is a matter of life and death. Piper invites you into his relationship with Paul in the hope that you will know life, forever.

God's Brilliant Shining Star by Dianne De Jong Pdf

As the principal of the school, I care for all my students and I wrote this book to make them realize how wonderful they are. Students come to school with lots of different issues, traumas and anxiety and my hope is to bring them joy and build their self esteem so their mental well-being strategies are good and they develop a great relationship with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who loves them unconditionally and is always by their side believing they are his Brilliant Shining Stars. This story is intended to be read to children and therefore indirectly, my secondary audience is parents! Adults have incredibly busy and stressful lives and they should be reminded that whether or not God is a part of their lives, that they are LOVED and a brilliant shining star too. This book should be read over and over as a favourite. It can be brought out when a child has a bad day at school or is hurting after losing a competition. Love can move mountains and families, both children and parents, can use this strategy when they are angry. My intent is to have many books read to children at night and then used as a discussion tool and that is why every book has questions for parents to ask their child at the end of day. Children do not always know what is bothering them, however, discussion questions could lead to solutions and better problem-solving skills.

Christian Higher Education by David S. Dockery,Christopher W. Morgan Pdf

Our world is growing increasingly complex and confused—a unique and urgent context that calls for a grounded and fresh approach to Christian higher education. Christian higher education involves a distinctive way of thinking about teaching, learning, scholarship, curriculum, student life, administration, and governance that is rooted in the historic Christian faith. In this volume, twenty-nine experts from a variety of fields, including theology, the humanities, science, mathematics, social science, philosophy, the arts, and professional programs, explore how the foundational beliefs of Christianity influence higher education and its disciplines. Aimed at equipping the next generation to better engage the shifting cultural context, this book calls students, professors, trustees, administrators, and church leaders to a renewed commitment to the distinctive work of Christian higher education—for the good of the society, the good of the church, and the glory of God.
