Telomere Miracle by Ed Park, MD Pdf

What if everything you think you know about getting older and staying healthy is wrong? Ed Park, M.D., offers the revolutionary idea that disease and aging in humans all arises from a single source: genetic errors caused by shortening of telomeres, or the sequences of DNA at the ends of our chromosomes. Telomeres naturally wear down over time, and thus when cells replicate (as they do all the time in our bodies), they’re creating progressively poorer-quality duplicates of themselves, like making a Xerox of a Xerox of a Xerox. Ultimately, the body deteriorates, resulting in a range of ailments, many of which we associate with aging—from diabetes to hypertension to macular degeneration to cancer. Happily, Ed tells us, it’s possible to slow or even reverse this process and effectively turn back the clock. In The Telomere Miracle, he explains cutting-edge science in a lively style, using illustrations and metaphors ranging from auto parts to superheroes. Then he shows readers how they can intervene in the aging process by boosting the activity of the enzyme telomerase naturally by understanding and optimizing six key areas of breathing, mindset, sleep, exercise, diet, and supplements.

Summary & Study Guide – The Telomere Miracle by Lee Tang Pdf

Scientific Secrets to Fight Disease, Feel Great and Turn Back the Clock on Aging. This book is a summary of “The Telomere Miracle: Scientific Secrets to Fight Disease, Feel Great and Turn Back the Clock on Aging,” by Ed Park, MD. Telomeres are long, repetitive sequences of DNA at the tips of our chromosomes to protect them from harm during cellular division. Every time a cell divides, the telomere shortens. When the telomeres are exhausted, cellular division stops and the cell dies. Telomere erosion is a central driver of illness and aging. As our telomeres shorten, our whole body deteriorates, leading to a range of aging-related diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. This book explains the many facets of human aging and shows you how to intervene in the aging process through lifestyle changes that boost the activity of the enzyme telomerase that lengthens your telomeres. Apply what you learned from this book to win the war on aging, prevent chronic diseases, and live a longer, happier, healthier, and more productive life. This guide includes: * Book Summary—helps you understand the key concepts. * Online Videos—cover the concepts in more depth. Value-added from this guide: * Save time * Understand key concepts * Expand your knowledge

Telomere by Marcelo Larramendy Pdf

This book, Telomere - A Complex End of a Chromosome, is organized into nine chapters containing the latest aspects of the current knowledge about the structure of telomeres and the crucial role that telomerase plays not only in maintaining chromosomal stability but also in relation to cell immortality, cell instability, and cancer biology. We now appreciate that these unusual complexes of DNA and proteins we all know as "telomeres" are dynamic and key structures that depend on telomerase and other cellular factors for continuance. Regulation of telomere activity is a dynamic area of current research, and new insights into telomeres and their role in aging and cancer, among other biological functions and pathologies, appear regularly in the scientific world. However, one fact is more than understandable in this difficult biological conundrum: the end of the telomere story is far from being totally unraveled.

Telomeres and Telomerase by Derek J. Chadwick,Gail Cardew Pdf

Telomeres and Telomerase Chairman: Sydney Brenner, 1997 Telomeres are the protective genetic elements located at the ends of chromosomes and are essential for correct chromosomal structure and function. They are not fully replicated by the conventional DNA polymerase system because DNA synthesis occurs only in the 5' to 3' direction and requires an RNA primer for initiation. Consequently, cells require a special enzyme to maintain the telomeric ends of chromosomes during each round of replication. This enzyme, telomerase, is a ribonucleoprotein that extends chromosome ends by adding short stretches of nucleotide repeats using a portion of its integral RNA component as the template. Recently, much excitement has been generated by the suggestion that telomerase, or rather the absence of telomerase and the resultant loss of terminal DNA, is a cause of human ageing. The evidence for this is twofold: the telomeres of certain cells in culture shorten during their lifespan; and immortalization of cells is associated, at least in some cases, with the maintenance of telomeres and telomerase activity. The latter observation prompted the analysis of clinical samples from patients with cancer and the demonstration that, in contrast to normal somatic cells, malignant cells possess telomerase activity. This is a unique book. Not only does it contain the latest experimental results from an international group of experts, but it also includes critical examinations of the current evidence, and discussions that attempt to identify the central and underlying concepts of this rapidly expanding field.

Chasing Methuselah by Todd T. W. Daly Pdf

The quest to live much longer has moved from legend to the laboratory. Recent breakthroughs in genetics and pharmacology have put humanity on the precipice of slowing down human aging to extend the healthy life span. The promise of longer, healthier life is enormously attractive, and poses several challenging questions for Christians. Who wouldn’t want to live 120 years or more before dying quickly? How do we make sense of human aging in light of Jesus’ invitation to daily take up our crosses with the promise of the resurrection to come? Is there anything wrong with manipulating our bodies technologically to live longer? If so, how long is too long? Should aging itself be treated as a disease? In Chasing Methuselah, Todd Daly examines the modern biomedical anti-aging project from a Christian perspective, drawing on the ancient wisdom of the Desert Fathers, who believed that the incarnation opened a way for human life to regain the longevity of Adam and the biblical patriarchs through prayer and fasting. Daly balances these insights with the christological anthropology of Karl Barth, discussing the implications for human finitude, fear of death, and the use of anti-aging technology, weaving a path between outright condemnation and uncritical enthusiasm.

The Telomere by David Kipling Pdf

Telomeres--specialized structures at ends of linear chromosomes--serve a fascinating range of functions that molecular biologists and geneticists are only beginning to understand and exploit. For example, telomeres distinguish the natural end of a chromosome from a simple double-strand break, stabilize chromosomes by protecting them from fusion or activating cell cycle checkpoints, and provide mechanisms to compensate for the loss of terminal DNA sequence that occurs when linear DNA molecules are replicated. This book--the first to cover this exciting and rapidly expanding field--integrates the increasingly disparate strands of telomere research to provide an invaluable survey of the subject. Topics include the role of telomeres in nuclear organization; telomere DNA sequence and unusual structures formed by telomeric sequences in vitro; replication of telomeric sequences by telomerase and how this relates to various DNA sequence features; proteins that bind or interact with telomeres; the role of telomeres in programmed and spontaneous chromosome breakage; recent speculation on the relationship between human telomere loss, aging, and cancer; telomere position effects on replication and transcription; Drosophila telomere function; and the relationships between human telomere structure, genome analysis, and genetic disease. In a discipline as rapidly developing as telomere research, this book will serve as a user-friendly and much-needed resource for students and researchers in molecular biology and molecular genetics.

Your Sleep Sweet Spot: Why Sleep and Dreams are Not an Option You Can Find Your Unique Ritual and Schedule by Diana Navarro M.S. Pdf

There is so much information on sleep out there and yet people still can’t get good sleep. Why is this? And equally important, how can we definitively change this? Let’s consider some issues missing or won’t find often or at all in the sleep advice world: ① Most if not all sleep expert information simply will disregard or brush by this area of fluctuating sleep cycles that don’t need to be fixed but worked with. I am suggesting it is worthy to explore different sleep schedules. Perhaps you go with the flow of your own body’s cycle instead of trying to conform to ill-informed societal standards instead. And ② Mind and specifically spirit are often ignored, minimized, or dismissed when it comes to explaining sleep’s purpose, the reason for dreams and overall human health. ③ The term “sleep hygiene” is being used wrongfully to describe what we really need and that is the power of sensory-fueled rituals that gently brings us to the state most conducive to deep, quality, and restorative sleep. Your Sleep Sweet Spot is a sleep routine, ritual, space design, schedule, and philosophy that implements bio-individuality. It provides you the best, most restorative sleep, optimal restoration, balance, and vital energy for your unique sleep cycle—nocturnal, diurnal, or alternative shift sleeper. It considers your specific physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. It also considers environmental, technological advances, and global interconnection, using what works and upgrading it to adjust with ongoing changes.★ Why are we experiencing so many problems associated with this essential need? These could range from chronic exhaustion, nightmares, sleep apnea, pain, insomnia, sleep paralysis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, inflammation, pain, cancer, mental impairments, mood disorders, increased accidents, emotional distress, pre-mature aging, and many more diseases and effects we are only discovering today. The core of my contribution to this work on sleep is that a person’s requirements for restorative sleep are as unique (bio-individual) as their DNA or fingerprint. Every guideline, suggestion, or technique has to be customized to your very unique need. Millions of people who need more sleep, while some can function with less sleep, and others need to break up their sleep cycle, for one reason or another, are left to flail because a) We are getting useless one-fits-all advice and information on sleep that isn’t working; b) And we feel as if we are doing something wrong, experiencing judgment from professionals, family, and society as a whole. This is not a body of work that gives you techniques that will provide you with a normal sleep schedule. This is because sleep is specific to each person, there is no such thing as normal when it comes to sleep. This is a project that helps you find your unique Sweet Sleep Spot. ★To find your sweet sleep spot, you need to know more about what sleep and dreams are, why you need them, and how to design your own sleep life with the right information and tools.◆ This work is my contribution to this cause to the awakening power of sleep and dreams. It includes personal experiences, research, theories, intuitive and philosophical introspection. Let’s see what we know about sleep and dreams and upgrade it to work better. With this book you will also get from the author from her site at no cost: ◆ A full Sleep Reference Guide ◆ A Mindfulness Guide ◆ A Forming New Habits Resource Guide ◆ An Alternative Health Resource Guide ◆ A Dream Interpretation Guide ◆ Free sleep and relaxation videos via YouTube Ready to transform your life? Easy Medicine for Biologists by Alexey Vladimirovich Baron Pdf

Medical knowledge is not only necessary for people working and researching within the field of medicine. Humankind emerged due to the evolution of organic matter over the course of billions of years. From our ancestors, we have inherited the principles of organizing the genome, an anatomical structure, a chain of metabolic processes, and a way to regulate physiological functions. Since these principles, chains, and methods are largely universal, one can learn a lot about the biology of other, non-human living beings that inhabit our planet when studying human medicine. At the same time, any living being is born, lives, and dies in continuous interaction with a changing external environment. The unfavorable influence of this environment can lead to the development of a variety of diseases. This occurs so often that disease must be considered as an optional, but practically unavoidable variant for not only human existence, but also for all other species of animals, plants, fungi, myxomycetes, or microorganisms. It follows that a biologist needs a certain amount of medical knowledge. However, in standard education programs, students of biological specialities are devoted to studying the laws of life processes in detail, mostly within the limits of conventional norms. For a biologist, everything that is outside these boundaries can seem to be a kind of chaos that goes beyond the laws of life and rational explanation.
