Excerpt from The Baptized Family: Or an Inquiry Into the Condition of Children in the Christian Church These arguments, which are stated with calmness and devout feeling, receive but feeble replies from James. The reader may consequently be led to infer that Samuel is in the right, since his opponent has so little to say in opposition to his views. Believers Baptism for Children of the Church by Marlin Jeschke Pdf

The author helps us to see that in the New Testament era many of the baptisms were of adults who came to saving faith after having lived in sin for a time. Today , however, thousands of youth are baptized after a happy and largely carefree childhood of innocence. God's ideal is for this period of innocence to be the norm, and for making the crossover to saving faith - the appropriation of the faith in which one has been reared - at the first clear call of the Spirit.Let no one assert that the writer does not believe in conversion. He does. But urges the church to give more attention to happy Christian homes, to being more creative in the nurture of its youth, and to making baptism services occasions for joyful celebration. The whole process is the more excellent way. This book deserves wide reading and earnest acceptance."J.C. Wenger

It Takes a Church to Baptize by Scot McKnight Pdf

The issue of baptism has troubled Protestants for centuries. Should infants be baptized before their faith is conscious, or does God command the baptism of babies whose parents have been baptized? Popular New Testament scholar Scot McKnight makes a biblical case for infant baptism, exploring its history, meaning, and practice and showing that infant baptism is the most historic Christian way of forming children into the faith. He explains that the church's practice of infant baptism developed straight from the Bible and argues that it must begin with the family and then extend to the church. Baptism is not just an individual profession of faith: it takes a family and a church community to nurture a child into faith over time. McKnight explains infant baptism for readers coming from a tradition that baptizes adults only, and he counters criticisms that fail to consider the role of families in the formation of faith. The book includes a foreword by Todd Hunter and an afterword by Gerald McDermott.

Baptism by Michael Green Pdf

Baptism: The confusion never seems to go away. Some Christians stress baptism as a gateway into the church. Others see it primarily as an individual's testimony to faith and repentance. Still others concentrate on baptism in the spirit. Michael Green attempts to steer a straight, biblical course through the troubled waters of baptism. In seeking common ground among various Christian traditions, he looks first at what Scripture has to say and then assesses the strengths and weaknesses of differing views in that light. While insisting that baptism is not substitute for saving faith, he nevertheless makes a strong case for the practice of infant baptism, confronting head-on common objections to the practice as well as addressing the related problems of confirmation and rebaptism.

A Theology for Family Ministry by Michael Anthony,Michelle Anthony Pdf

The times are definitely changing. What was once simply referred to as a Nuclear Family in North America has morphed into labels such as Non-Traditional Families, Fragmented Families, Single-Parent Families, Gay-Partner Families, Blended Families, and beyond. "It may not always be pretty, but it is reality, and that's the intersection between biblical ideal and ministry practice," writes editor Michael J. Anthony in A Theology for Family Ministry. With thoroughly researched input from a broad team of family experts, the book advises church and ministry leaders on how to make biblically and philosophically informed choices when reaching out to adults and children within these shifting paradigms. Emphasis is placed on what the Scriptures teach about the composition of the home, followed by discerning and hopefilled strategies for helping all families live out their God-given mandates. "While the family may continue to change into models that bring discomfort and angst to some of us, we rest in the assurance that God has a plan for those who live in any of these new configurations of what we now call family," explains Anthony. Other contributors include Ken Canfield, Michelle D. Anthony, Karen E. Jones, Freddy Cardoza, Michael S. Lawson, Richard Melick Jr., Curt Hamner, Leon Blanchette, Gordon R. Coulter, James W. Thompson, Timothy Paul Jones, Randy Stinson, Kit Rae, and David Keehn.

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1890 edition. Excerpt: ... PREFACE. IN presenting this little work to the public, it is earnestly hoped that a careful perusal of its contents will awaken a new interest in a subject that deserves careful and serious attention. My conclusions are reached after twenty-five years of membership in the Christian Church, all of which have been spent in official capacity, both in the Church proper and in the Sunday-school department of the Church. I have observed how the children of some families wander away from the Church as they reach manhood and womanhood, while those of others grow up in the Church and never leave it. I have also observed that when series of special meetings are held, and many adults are converted and brought into the Church, the prevailing opinion seems to be that if fifty per cent, remain the effort has been a success. Of course the other half drifts away with those who are called backsliders. The thought that has followed me through these years is this: Is such a condition of things absolutely necessary? if not, where lies the trouble? This led to a more careful reading of the Word of God and a study of the Discipline of my Church. I am satisfied that both the Bible and the Discipline warrant the position which I take in the following pages, and that the trouble is not in the plan of salvation, but in the neglect of Christian parents and Christian people generally to do their whole duty. This humble contribution upon the subject is given in good faith, and with no other desire than to do my share of the work of saving our children from sin and ruin. The Author. Relation of Baptized Children to the Church. CHAPTER I. JUDAISM AND CHRISTIANITY. GOD, whether in nature or revelation, is a God of system and order. It is this fact clearly seen that...
