This gives the reader a clear guideline and good direction on where to begin.” Former nursing student, University of Cumbria “This book is brilliant in so many ways... the step-by-step instruction were so useful and have really helped me to consolidate my learning. I will be recommending it to fellow students.” Adult nursing student, University of East Anglia “The patient scenarios are one of my favourite aspects of the book, especially the continuity of particular case studies throughout the book. The Blue Bedspread by Raj Kamal Jha Pdf

A midnight phone call awakens a man to inform him that his sister has died in childbirth. He is told he must keep the orphaned baby girl overnight, until her new, adopting parents can collect her. Over the course of that hot night in Calcutta, the man hurriedly writes stories to the baby sleeping on a blue bedspread in the next room: stories of the family she was born into, stories of the mother she will never know. Painting half-remembered scenes, he flits between past and present, recounting tales of the shared childhood of a boy and his sister who muffled their fears in the blueness of that very same bedspread. As the hours pass, the man gradually divulges a layered and transfixing confession of the darkest of family secrets. Described by John Fowles as "remarkable, almost a coming-of-age of the Indian novel," this powerful, penetrating debut by a young New Delhi journalist has already been recognized as an international literary event. In prose that is breathtaking and precise, Raj Kamal Jha discovers the hidden violence and twisted eroticism of an exotic, overcrowded old city. Unlike the India captured in the exotic prose of Salman Rushdie and Arundhati Roy, Jha writes in a spare, straightforward style that has prompted comparisons to American realists like Raymond Carver and Don DeLillo. The Blue Bedspread is a searingly honest story about the love and hope that can survive in the midst of family violence. It is a first novel of extraordinary power and humanity.

Embroidered Stories by Edvige Giunta,Joseph Sciorra Pdf

For Italian immigrants and their descendants, needlework represents a marker of identity, a cultural touchstone as powerful as pasta and Neapolitan music. Out of the artifacts of their memory and imagination, Italian immigrants and their descendants used embroidering, sewing, knitting, and crocheting to help define who they were and who they have become. This book is an interdisciplinary collection of creative work by authors of Italian origin and academic essays. The creative works from thirty-seven contributors include memoir, poetry, and visual arts while the collection as a whole explores a multitude of experiences about and approaches to needlework and immigration from a transnational perspective, spanning the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth century. At the center of the book, over thirty illustrations represent Italian immigrant women’s needlework. The text reveals the many processes by which a simple object, or even the memory of that object, becomes something else through literary, visual, performance, ethnographic, or critical reimagining. While primarily concerned with interpretations of needlework rather than the needlework itself, the editors and contributors to Embroidered Stories remain mindful of its history and its associated cultural values, which Italian immigrants brought with them to the United States, Canada, Australia, and Argentina and passed on to their descendants.

If That Was Lunch, We've Had It by D J Colbert Pdf

Greta Thunberg meets Spike Milligan. In a changing world, two friends want to write a book and earn squillions. How difficult can it be? Rodney and Will are averse to hard work. Empty wallets, however, force them into temporary jobs and schemes of doubtful viability. Instead of the nine-to-five, they prefer lying on the beach, where, blissfully unaware of the hole in the ozone layer, they hatch their plan to achieve wealth and literary immortality without effort. Life, however, cruelly throws obstacles in their way. Anyone for romance, how about sports, why shouldn't they run away to sea, or the mountains, or Australia? Go to university? Give it a shot, but don't let threats of global warming, pangs of conscience, or lack of talent slow them down. From the 1960s to the 2020s, from New Zealand to Philadelphia, Tahiti to Vancouver Island, Jeddah to Australia, Hawaii to Liverpool, and Fiji to London, the friends grow up and grow old, but never give up. "I've been thinking, bro, maybe we should join a writers' group." Rodney, surprisingly, sounded serious. "What for? I've been to a writers' group. It was called school." "We need a catalyst." "I'd rather chew barbed wire." "I've heard a lot of women go to writers' groups." Kim bit into a celery stick wrapped in a lettuce leaf. "Sign me up." I wasn't stupid.

P Is For Peach by Carol Crane Pdf

As you travel through the Okefenokee Swamp, keep an eye out for Tiger Swallowtails and Brown Thrashers, and be sure to pick some Yellow Confederate Daisies before taking a nap under a Live Oak Tree. This is the Georgia that becomes a wondrous reality within the beautiful rhyming verses of Carol Crane and the colorful images of Mark Braught. At the same time the rhymes entertain and inform younger readers, Crane's in-depth expository text will appeal to older ones, creating a two-tiered teaching tool for educators in the Peach State and across the country.
