Priest Under Fire by Peter M. Sánchez Pdf

David Rodriguez, or Padre David as he is known throughout El Salvador, is a diocesan priest who followed the Second Vatican Council's doctrinal mandate to advocate for the poor and oppressed. Along with other progressive clergy committed to liberation theology, Padre David helped drive forward the country’s popular movement. In the 1970s, Padre David joined the largest guerilla organization in El Salvador, the FPL (Popular Liberation Forces). At first, he supported the FPL clandestinely, helping to organize Christian Base Communities, autonomous religious groups dedicated to spreading liberationist ideas and to giving the Salvadoran poor a clear understanding of why their lives were so difficult. By the end of the twelve-year civil war, he was head of the FPL's finance committee. He traveled to the United States, Europe, and across Latin America raising funds for the movement and its resulting political party, the FMLN (Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front). In Priest Under Fire, Peter Sánchez tells the story of how one priest joined a movement to help his people and his country. He provides much-needed insight into both the Salvadoran civil war and the Catholic Church-influenced grassroots political movements, showing that they continue to inform Latin America today.

Creation Under Fire from Within the Church by Robert E. Franzen B. Th Pdf

This book picks up where the Creation vs. Evolution debate leaves off for the Christian. Without rehashing the debates, this book moves forward with what the Bible says and what it does not say about the subject of creation! This book will equip you in answering today's pressing questions, with the simplicity of God's Word. This book also sounds the alarm to the Body of Christ on one of Satan's most successful lies ever perpetrated on humanity by exposing a dreadful theory called "uniformitarianism" and how it has infected the Body of Christ. Why does what we believe about origins matter? This book brings answers to tons of tough questions and sets the story straight. We invite you to see these answers uncovered from the Bible alone! Dr. John Morris of the Institute for Creation Research (icr.org) Commends on a job well done and says, "Our modern church is plagued by compromise, with Christian leaders intimidated by the pronouncements of some scientists, who incorporated wrong thinking into the Biblical worldview. They should read this thoughtful and well researched book." Rob Franzen and his wife reside in central Virginia with their six children. Rob is a 1992 graduate of Zion Bible Institute in Barrington, Rhode Island, and earned his Bachelor of Theology from Christian Life School of Theology (CLST) in Columbus, GA. Rob has ministered as an evangelist, missionary evangelist, and associate Pastor over the past 20 plus years. Rob has traveled over two dozen foreign countries seeing many salvations and wonderful miracles and healings by the Grace of God. As a minister he has a fervent love for the truth of God's Holy Word and for evangelism. He ministers with a strong prophetic anointing of the Holy Spirit, which will ignite Fresh Fire in those who hear.

Jesus Under Fire by Zondervan, Pdf

Who is Jesus? What did he do? What did he say? -Are the traditional answer to these questions still to be trusted? - Did the early church and tradition "Christianize" Jesus? - Was Christianity built on clever conceptions of the church, or on the character and actions of an actual person? These and similar questions have come under scrutiny by a forum of biblical scholars called the Jesus Seminar. Their conclusions have been widely publicized in magazines such as Time and Newsweek. Jesus Under Fire challenges the methodology and findings of the Jesus Seminar, which generally clash with the biblical records. It examines the authenticity of the words, actions, miracles, and resurrection of Jesus, and presents compelling evidence for the traditional biblical teachings. Combining accessibility with scholarly depth, Jesus Under Fire helps readers judge for themselves whether the Jesus of the Bible is the Jesus of history, and whether the gospels' claim is valid that he is the only way to God.

Faithfulness Under Fire by William Boekestein Pdf

The life of Guido de Bres teaches us that we can find enduring hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ, even during persecution. Author William Boekestein sensitively tells the story of de Bres for children, guiding them through his turbulent life and times- from his birth in 1522 in a small Belgium town, to his call to the ministry and study under Reformers such as John Calvin and Theodore Beza, to his authorship of the Belgic Confession and a life of suffering, to his martyr's death in 1567. Skillfully crafted illustrations and an easy-to-understand narrative combine to capture the interests-and admiration-of the entire family for this amazing Reformation hero. Endorsement "Bill Boekestein shows his pastor's heart and desire to make the riches of our Reformed heritage known in a simple way in Faithfulness under Fire. Men like de Bres lived in a tumultuous time, and their example of total commitment is needed in today's world of religious pluralism, tolerance, and moderation. Our children need to learn this devotion and parents need to teach it with all their heart." " - Daniel R. Hyde, Oceanside United Reformed Church, Carlsbad/Oceanside, CA

Hell Under Fire by Zondervan, Pdf

Of all the teachings of Christianity, the doctrine of hell is easily the most troubling, so much so that in recent years the church has been quietly tucking it away. Rarely mentioned anymore in the pulpit, it has faded through disuse among evangelicals and been attacked by liberal theologians. Hell is no longer only the target of those outside the church. Today, a disturbing number of professing Christians question it as well. Perhaps more than at any other time in history, hell is under fire. The implications of the historic view of hell make the popular alternatives, annihilationism and universalism, seem extremely appealing. But the bottom line is still God’s Word. What does the Old Testament reveal about hell? What does Paul the apostle have to say, or the book of Revelation? Most important, what does Jesus, the ultimate expression of God’s love, teach us about God’s wrath?Upholding the authority of Scripture, the different authors in Hell Under Fire explore a complex topic from various angles. R. Albert Mohler Jr. provides a historical, theological, and cultural overview of “The Disappearance of Hell.” Christopher Morgan draws on the New Testament to offer three pictures of hell as punishment, destruction, and banishment. J. I. Packer compares universalism with the traditional understanding of hell, Morgan does the same with annihilationism, and Sinclair Ferguson considers how the reality of hell ought to influence preaching. These examples offer some idea of this volume’s scope and thoroughness.Hell may be under fire, but its own flames cannot be quenched by popular opinion. This book helps us gain a biblical perspective on what hell is and why we cannot afford to ignore it. And it offers us a better understanding of the One who longs for all people to escape judgment and obtain eternal life through Jesus Christ.

As the minister of St George's Anglican Church, Baghdad, Andrew White encounters daily tragedy, yet he remains a man of profound faith. Under constant threat of death, shadowed by bodyguards, he builds and encourages and loves and consoles his beleaguered congregation. In this candid book he squarely answers the questions that his circumstances force into the open. What happened to his faith, for example, when a young girl in his congregation died, after much hope and prayer? He is trusted by all sides in this tormented region, and has met the best and worst: articulate, agreeable imams and rabbis; Christian venality and dishonesty. What has kept him willing to see the best?

Closer to the Fire by Greg Musselman Pdf

We are often so far removed from persecution that it can be hard to relate to people who suffer for their faith. Journey with Greg Musselman, a former sports anchor, as he introduces you to believers he has interviewed from around the world--Christians with extraordinary stories to tell and amazing courage to impart. Whether in Ethiopia or Eritrea, North Korea or Nigeria, India or Iran, these believers have endured incredible pain and suffering, and live under constant threat and hardship. As they have stood boldly for Christ, they have discovered a vital truth: the closer you are to Jesus, the closer you are to the fires of persecution! Yet their tragic stories reveal a deeper hope and greater faith than most of us experience in our more protected lives--and they have much to teach us. Closer to the Fire helps Christians in free countries to identify with and learn from believers in the persecuted Church, as it explores the deeper truths of Scripture and provides probing questions to strengthen your personal walk. These courageous testimonies will inspire you to stand firm for the gospel, develop a greater trust in God, and draw closer to Jesus--and closer to the fire.
