The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1970, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January through July 1970. During this period Brother Lee remained in Los Angeles for the first two weeks of January, after which he traveled to Sao Paulo, Brazil, and remained there until early February. There is no record of his speaking in Sao Paulo. On his return to the United States he stopped in Houston, Texas, where he gave a conference, and then returned to Los Angeles in the middle of February, where he remained until the end of March. He then visited Mesa, Arizona, for a weekend conference. He returned to Southern California and ministered in Los Angeles and Costa Mesa until the last week in June. He traveled to Toronto, Canada, for one week and proceeded to visit Akron, Ohio, until the middle of July. There is no record of his speaking in Toronto. Brother Lee then returned to Los Angeles and ministered there until the middle of August. The contents of this volume are divided into eleven sections, as follows: 1. Eleven messages given in Los Angeles, California, from January 1 through 4. These messages were previously published in a ten-chapter book entitled The Fulfillment of God's Purpose by the Growth of Christ in Us. Two of the spoken messages were combined. 2. One message given in Los Angeles, California, on January 18. This message was previously published in The Ministry magazine, volume 2, number 8, August/September 1998, as the first part of a chapter entitled "Migration in God's Move." It is included in this volume under the title Fellowship on Migration. 3. One message given in Los Angeles, California, on February 24. It is included in this volume under the title Bearing Fruit for the Manifestation of the Triune God and Standing Against the Opposition of the Religious World. 4. One message given in Los Angeles, California, on April 19. This message is included in this volume under the title Abiding in the Anointing. 5. Seven messages given in Houston, Texas, from February 8 through 14. They are included in this volume under the title Fulfilling God's Purpose by Growing in Life and Functioning in Life to Build Up the Church. 6. Seven messages given in Mesa, Arizona, on March 27 through 29. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Enjoyment of Christ in Our Spirit for the Building Up of the Church as Revealed in the Gospel of Matthew. 7. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, from March 31 through June 5. These messages were previously published under the title New Testament Service. Part of chapter 5 and all of chapter 6 were published as a booklet entitled Finding Christ by the Living Star. 8. Nine messages given in Los Angeles, California, from April 3 through May 29. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Way to Grow in Life. 9. Three messages given in Costa Mesa, California, on May 30 and 31. They are included in this volume under the title Crucial Points concerning Christ, the Church, and the Two Spirits in John's Gospel and Revelation. 10. Eight messages given in Akron, Ohio, on July 3 through 5. There is no record of the first message in this series. The remaining seven messages are included in this volume under the title Basic Lessons concerning the New Testament Service. The first recorded message was divided into two parts for publication in this section. 11. Eight messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 17 through 25. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Spirit and the Church. Brother Lee also gave seven messages in Los Angeles, California, during a period of informal training from April 1 through May 13. These messages, together with sixteen messages given from February 5 through May 21, 1969, were previously published in a book entitled How to Meet. The twenty-three messages were included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1969, volume 1.

Regarding Brother Witness Lee's travel and his ministry, 1958 can be divided into approximately three periods. The first period is the three months from January through March, during which Brother Lee was in Manila, Philippines, in January and returned to Taipei, Taiwan, via Hong Kong in February. He then conducted three conferences and a few co-workers' meetings in March. The second period consists of the next six months, from the beginning of April through mid October. During this period Brother Lee traveled around the world, passing through Tokyo, Osaka, and Shenyu in Japan (April 8 through 22); Honolulu, San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Toronto in the United States and Canada (April 23 through August 1); London, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Zurich, Geneva, Rome, and Athens in Europe (August 2 through September 21); Beirut, Jerusalem, and Tehran in the Middle East (September 22 through 28); Karachi, Rangoon (now Yangon), and Bangkok in South and Southeast Asia (September 29 through October 3); and Hong Kong (October 4 through 15) before returning to Taiwan on October 16. The third period consists of the last three months in Taiwan, during which time he conducted various conferences. For the first period we have records of Brother Lee's meeting with district responsible ones in Hong Kong on February 12. The three conferences that Brother Lee conducted in Taiwan in March were on the subject of enjoying God. This is the first time that Brother Lee released the light concerning this subject. In addition to the three conferences, Brother Lee conducted a number of meetings with serving ones on March 4 through 8. He also gave a series of messages on reading the Bible and another series of messages on the vision of the tree of life. The messages given during this period are included in volume 1 of this set. For the second period we have records of Brother Lee's speaking in Tokyo in April in a conference on enjoying God and records of a few private talks. There are two records of his speaking in New York and four records of his speaking in Denmark. In addition, he wrote long letters that reveal some of the meetings that took place during his trip. These letters are published in Church News in volume 1 of this set. After his visits to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, he returned to Hong Kong in October. There he held two weeks of conferences on God's building. In the third period, upon returning to Taiwan in October, Brother Lee conducted a conference on God's building, with meetings in both the morning and the evening. In addition, he conducted various meetings with serving ones. After the conference, on Mondays and Wednesdays he gave additional messages on the subject of God's building. Almost all the messages given in the second and third periods of 1958 are included in volume 2 of this set. Some of his speaking in October and November is included in volume 1 in the section entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1958, volume 1, contains messages, personal letters, and reports by Brother Witness Lee from February through December 1958. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1958 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. A message given in Hong Kong on February 12. This message is included in this section under the title Building and Perfecting. 2. A short speaking in an unknown location in February or March. This speaking is included in this volume under the title "The Son of Man." 3. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Reading the Bible to See Its True Meaning and Central Thought and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Thirteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March, October, and November. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Eighteen personal letters and reports that appeared in Issue Nos. 1 through 18 of Church News from April 6 through December 18. They are included in this volume under the same title. 6. Twenty-one messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled How to Enjoy God and How to Practice the Enjoyment of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 7. Then he visited Manila, Philippines; Singapore; Surabaya, Indonesia; and Melbourne, Australia, before arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 1. Brother Lee traveled to San Francisco on March 17 and then went to Los Angeles at the beginning of April, where he remained until the end of May. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Shepherding the Church and Perfecting the Young People. 2. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, from January 5 through 9. Three messages given in an unknown city and in Singapore from the end of January to the beginning of February. The date and place of the first message are uncertain. The last two messages were given in Singapore in February. They are part of an eight-day conference held in Singapore at the end of January and the beginning of February. The records of only two of the messages given during that conference have been located. The three messages in this section are included in this volume under the title The Abolishing of Ordinances and the Making of Peace. 4. Twelve messages given in Palmerston North, New Zealand, on March 12 through 16. Fourteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, from July 28 through August 9. These messages were given during twenty-four sessions of fellowship held in the mornings on these days. He returned to Los Angeles at the end of December. Regrettably, there is no record of his speaking in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Louisville, Toronto, East Hartland, and Boston. The majority of his speaking in Pittsburgh and Erie was recorded in handwritten notes. The contents of this volume are divided into fourteen sections, as follows: 1. Twenty-six messages given in Los Angeles, California, from July 17 through August 21. These messages were previously published in a twenty-four-chapter book under the title Christ and the Church Revealed and Typified in the Psalms. 2. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1981, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee on November 2 through December 11, 1981. From December 23, 1981, through January 2, 1982, Brother Lee spoke twenty-eight messages that were published in Life-study of 1 Corinthians. The Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. From the last week in October until the end of November, 1981, Brother Lee traveled to Seoul, South Korea; Hong Kong; Taipei, Taiwan; and Tokyo, Japan. He returned to Anaheim and ministered there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into two sections, as follows: 1. Twenty-eight messages given in Hong Kong and in Taipei, Taiwan, on November 2 through 24. These messages were translated from Chinese and are included in this volume under the title The History and Revelation of the Lord's Recovery. 2. A message given in Anaheim, California, on December 11. This message is included in this volume under the title The Center of Paul's Completing Ministry.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1969, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from April 4 through August 9, 1969. As mentioned in the preface to volume 1, in early April Brother Lee made a brief visit to Waco, Texas, and at the beginning of May he visited San Francisco. At the end of May he traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico; and then to Erie, Pennsylvania; Toronto, Canada; and Erie, Pennsylvania, a second time. Regrettably, there is no record of Brother Lee's speaking in his first visit to Erie and in his visit to Toronto. He returned to Los Angeles at the beginning of July and remained there until the end of August. The contents of this volume are divided into nine sections, as follows: 1. Six messages given in Waco, Texas, on April 4 through 6. These messages are included in this section under the title Experiencing and Enjoying the All-inclusive, Compound Spirit for the Building Up of the Church as God's Dwelling Place. The recording of one of the six messages appears to have been lost. 2. Seven messages given in San Francisco, California, on May 2 through 4. They are included in this volume under the title Praising God with Christ as the Content by Our Experiencing and Enjoying Him. 3. Nine messages given in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from May 31 through June 5. These messages are included in this volume under the title Practicing the Church Life by Exercising the Spirit. 4. Two messages given in Erie, Pennsylvania, on June 28. These messages were given near the end of a longer conference that began on June 19. Regrettably, there is no record of Brother Lee's speaking from June 19 through 27. The two recorded messages are included in this section under the title TheRecovery of the Local Churches with the Sevenfold Spirit. 5. Ten messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 4 through 13. They were originally published in The Stream, volume 7, number 4, November 1, 1969; and volume 8, number 1, February 1, 1970; and number 2, May 1, 1970, under the title The Seven Spirits for the Local Churches. 6. Eight messages given in Los Angeles, California, on July 4 through 12, 1969. They were originally published in The Stream, volume 8, number 2, May 1, 1970; number 3, August 1, 1970; and number 4, November 1, 1970, under the title The Recovery of God's House and God's City. 7. Eighteen messages given in Los Angeles, California, from July 16 through August 15, 1969. They were previously published in a sixteen-chapter book under the title The Crucial Revelation of Life in the Scriptures. 8. Five messages given in Los Angeles, California, from July 17 through August 14. These messages are included in this volume under the title Further Speaking on the Crucial Revelation of Life in the Scriptures. Two of the five spoken messages were combined. 9. One message given in Los Angeles, California, on August 9. This message is published in this volume under the title The Structure of the Book of Psalms.

The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1993, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from January 2 through December 18, 1993. In 1993 Brother Lee spoke seventy-seven messages that were published in the Life-study of Job, Life-study of the Psalms, Life-study of Joshua, Life-study of Judges, Life-study of Ruth, and Life-study of 1 and 2 Samuel. These messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. During the first eight months of 1993 Brother Lee was in Anaheim, California. At the beginning of September he visited Seattle, Washington, for one week, after which he returned to Anaheim and remained there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into nine sections, as follows: 1. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on January 2 and 3. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Ministry of the New Testament and the Teaching and Fellowship of the Apostles and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. In this issue we will continue four lines of ministry. The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--contains chapters 9 through 12 of The Kernel of the Bible, which are in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1977. This section includes messages on Babylon and Jerusalem, becoming stones for God's building, Christ's divinity, and Christ's humanity. The second line--Words for New Believers--contains chapters 14 through 16 of The Crucial Revelation of Life in the Scriptures, which are in volume 2 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1969, and chapter 1 of The Fulfillment of God's Purpose by the Growth of Christ in Us, which is in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1970. These chapters cover our being saved by life, the development of life, and God's intention for man to take Him as life. The third line--Maturing in Life--contains chapters 15 through 18 of Perfecting Training, which are in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1980. These chapters contain messages on living Christ by praying unceasingly, living Christ by the Word and the Spirit, living Christ by being filled with the Word, and living habitually versus living Christ. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--contains chapters 12 through 15 of Crystallization-study of the Gospel of John, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1994–1997. These chapters speak of the kingdom of God and the blood and water, the apostolic ministry in cooperation with Christ's heavenly ministry, the key to the Gospel of John, and the intrinsic significance of John 1 through 16.
