The Convert's Rosary (Classic Reprint) by Alice M. Gardiner Pdf

Excerpt from The Convert's Rosary Fathers and the Hail Marys will fall from our lips, the beads will glide through our fingers, while our hearts will remain untouch ed by the great mysteries we are trying to commemorate. The spirit of the devotion evades us, while we are engaged in studying its outer form. The whole object of the Rosary is to keep before our mind's eye and meditate upon the chief events in the lives of Our dear Lord and of His Blessed Mother. By the use of the Rosary the Nativity, the Passion and the Death of Christ (instead of being far-off occurrences, which happened nearly two thousand years ago) become the daily actual ities of our lives, far more real and tangible to us, than the so-called realities which surround us. But at the beginning it requires study and a determination to triumph over first difficulties. Most Converts who have become used to it can bear witness to the fact that their Rosary has given them a more personal intimate knowledge of Our Lord's Life and Passion than any amount of sermons, church-going or Bible-reading did in their Protestant days. The Convert's Rosary by Alice M. Gardiner Pdf

Of all the many devotions practised by the Catholic Church, there is none so universally popular as the recitation of the Rosary. The reason is obvious - it appeals to all classes and conditions of people. Rich and poor, learned and ignorant alike, find in it one of their greatest consolations and spiritual helps. Wherever we go, East or West; from the humblest country homestead to the fashionable church in Mayfair; from the mysterious gloom of "Notre Dame des Victoires" in Paris to the proud Basilica of Saint Peter at Rome, we see the familiar beads in use. The Church tells us that this devotion originated about seven hundred years ago, and was first made known to Saint Dominic through a vision of our Lady. Whatever its antiquity may be, the fact remains, that over two hundred millions of Christians practice it, and thereby bear witness to its worth. When we Converts "lay aside the old man and put on the new" we are expected, in making a profession of our faith, to make also a general act of acquiescence in the devotions sanctioned by the Church. The latter is far too wise and indulgent a mother to expect us to learn all our lessons in a day. When, through storm and stress, we have at last reached the fold, she allows us at first to rest in her arms, and listens calmly and without reproof to our petulant declaration that we cannot practice what we do not understand. In her infinite wisdom she knows that we cannot dwell long in her fold whilst remaining a stranger to all that she holds sacred and' dear. So she gently soothes her tired child; and bides her lime. Little by little, sooner or later, however, she has her way, and the once wayward one succumbs to the comfort of fingering the beads. Some Converts tell us that they practiced this devotion in their Anglican days, although they own to having done so in a shamefaced, surreptitious manner, which robbed it of half its charm. To most of us, however, it is at first strange and somewhat alarming. We are bound to retain at the outset some of our Protestant prejudices. The habits of mind of many years are not cast aside in a day. The fear of "vain repetitions" makes itself felt; of a mechanical recitation of prayers by the lips, in which the heart and mind have no part. It is highly probable, indeed, that our first recitations of the Rosary will have exactly the result we fear. The "Our Fathers" and the "Hail Marys" will fall from our lips, the beads will glide through our fingers, while our hearts will remain untouched by the great mysteries we are trying to commemorate. Sanctity Through the Rosary (Classic Reprint) by Edouard Hugon Pdf

Excerpt from Sanctity Through the Rosary The institution of the Rosary is much more than a work of genius, for we see in it that supernatural wisdom which theologians reverence in the institution of the Sacraments. We have no intention of putting the Rosary and the Sacraments on the same level, but it is permissible to point out the striking analogy that exists between them. The Treasures of the Rosary (Classic Reprint) by Charles Hyacinth McKenna Pdf

Excerpt from The Treasures of the Rosary IT is a long-established custom on missions conducted by the Dominican Fathers to give each evening a short instruction on the Rosary previous to reciting the beads, which are always said in common before the night sermon. This instruction has a two-fold Object: to make known to the faithful the origin and efficacy Of this great devotion, so dear to the heart Of our immaculate Mother, and to inspire them with greater fervor, devotion and confidence in recit ing the Rosary. For many years it was the privilege Of the writer Of_ this humble book to give those Rosary talks. NO longer able to engage in mission work, some Of his esteemed friends in the priesthood have urged him to prepare a course Of Rosary talks for the press, in the belief that they would not only be useful to Directors of Rosary Societies, but would also be an aid to the faithful in meditating on the mysteries Of our Mother's cherished Rosary. Rosary Novenas to Our Lady (Classic Reprint) by Charles V. Lacey Pdf

Excerpt from Rosary Novenas to Our Lady He did for us, one by one; and then we turn the page and begin again. Those who have profited most from the Rosary are the ones who have thus understood it. With hearts full of love they have rested close by the side of our heavenly Mother; and, whispering words of endearment to her, they have gazed the while at those wonderful pic tures which the changing mysteries recall, seeing always something new and beautiful. And when they have come to the end of the picture-book, with the insatiable interest of a child, they have gone back to the beginning and turned every page over again. Classic Catholic Converts by Charles Patrick Connor Pdf

Classic Catholic Converts presents the compelling stories of over 25 well-known converts to Catholicism from the 19th and 20th centuries. It tells of powerful testimonials to God's grace, men and women from all walks of life in Europe and America whose search for the fullness of truth led them to the Catholic Church. It is the witness of brilliant intellectuals, social workers, scientists, authors, film producers, clergy, businessmen, artists and others who, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, studied and prayed their way into the Church. Fr. Charles Connor writes insightful and wonderfully readable stories of a rich variety of converts who struggled greatly with many challenges as they embraced Catholicism, including rejection by loved ones, persecution from strangers, and misunderstanding by peers. But, once they responded to God's call, they experienced great inner peace, contentment and joy. Among the famous converts whose stories are told here include John Henry Newman, Edith Stein, Jacques Maritain, Dorothy Day, G.K. Chesterton, Elizabeth Seton, Karl Stern, Ronald Knox and many more.
