11 Days at the Edge by Michael Wombacher Pdf

In 11 Days at the Edge, the author joins spiritual teacher Andrew Cohena self-described idealist with revolutionary inclinationsin an exploration of an emerging new spiritual paradigm. In this paradigm the traditional revelation of enlightenment is explored in the context of the evolving universe with truly mind-expanding results. Cohen, once a teacher of ""personal enlightenment,"" now teaches enlightenment as a collective emergence the emergence of a ""higher we""which he sees as the ground for the emergence of a new culture of enlightened values. Here we find that place where our spiritual longing intersects with our care for the world, empowering both to levels neither could attain alone. Uncompromising in his call for human transformation, Cohen is presented as an radical spiritual figureunyielding in his demand for integritywhose liberated consciousness and ruthless deconstruction of the cultural and spiritual status quo have kept everyone talking. In recognition of his contribution to the philosophy of religious thought, in 2004 he was invited to address the Parliament of World Religions, an unusual honor for a man backed by no established spiritual tradition.

The Enlightenment by Norman Hampson Pdf

Armed with the insights of the scientific revolution, the men of the Enlightenment set out to free mankind from its age-old cocoon of pessimism and superstition and establish a more reasonable world of experiment and progress. Yet by the 1760s, this optimism about man and society had almost evaporated. In the works of Rousseau, Kant and Goethe, there was discernible a new inner voice, and an awareness of individual uniqueness which had eluded their more self-confident predecessors. The stage was set for the revolutionary crisis and the rise of Romanticism. In this book, Norman Hampson follows through certain dominant themes in the Enlightenment, and describes the contemporary social and political climate, in which ideas could travel from the salons of Paris to the court of Catherine the Great - but less easily from a master to his servant. On such vexed issues as the role of ideas in the "rise of the middle class" he provides a new and realistic approach linking intellectual and social history.

Pulpit Politics by Warren L. Vinz Pdf

Vinz identifies the form of American nationalism as the nationalism of messianism, but demonstrates that Protestant leadership throughout the twentieth century gave no consistent voice on what America should be messianic about, displaying a cacophonous mix of nationalistic expressions that both reflected and contributed to societal confusion.

On Enlightenment by David Stove Pdf

The idea of enlightenment entails liberty, equality, rationalism, secularism, and the connection between knowledge and well being. In spite of the setbacks of revolutionary violence, mass murder, and two world wars, the spread of enlightenment values is still the yardstick by which moral, political, and scientific advances are measured. In On Enlightenment, David Stove attacks the roots of enlightenment thought to define its successes, limitations, and areas of likely failures. Stove champions the use of reason and recognizes the falsity of religious claims as well as the importance of individual liberty. He rejects the enlightenment's uncritical optimism regarding social progress and its willingness to embrace revolutionary change. What evidence is there that the elimination of superstition will lead to happiness? Or that it is possible to accept Darwinism without Social Darwinism? Or that the enlightenment's liberal, rationalistic outlook will lead to the social progress envisioned by its advocates? Despite best intentions, says Stove, social reformers who attempt to improve the world inevitably make things worse. He advocates a conservative approach to change, pointing out that social structures are so large and complex that any widespread social reform will have innumerable unforeseen consequences. Writing in the tradition of Edmund Burke with the same passion for clarity and intellectual honesty as George Orwell, David Stove was one of the most articulate and insightful philosophers of his day.

Stress and Buddhist Wisdom by Dr. Hoang Dinh Hai Pdf

Through Zen Buddhism and through modern medical and biological achievements, Dr. Hai seeks to formulate a science of the mind. Only such a science can help men and women to liberate themselves from the suffering of consciousness. Faced with a hurried, hard, and needy lifestyle, it is rare to find women and men without stress. When dealing with a stressful situation, it is enough to implement the process of the triad of the spiritual shield to resist it and to retain the balance of the inner self. The balance of ones internal environment is the source of well-being and good health. If we train our inner life, we will achieve self-control, determination, optimism, and invincibility in the face of adversity or ill fate.

Critique of the Empiricist Explanation of Morality by C. W. Maris Pdf

a. 'Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the oftener and the more steadily we reflect on them: the starry heavens above and the moral law within. ' Thus Kant formulates his attitude to morality (Critique of Practical Reason, p. 260). He draws a sharp distinction between these two objects of admiration. The starry sky, he writes, represents my relationship to the natural, empirical world. Moral law, on the other hand, is of a completely different order. It ' . . . begins from my invisible self, my personality, and exhibits me in a world which has true infinity, but which is traceable only by the understanding and with which I discern that I am not in a merely contingent but in a universal and necessary connection (. . . ). ' (p. 260). So Kant sees morality as a separate metaphysical order opposed to the world of empirical phenomena. Human beings belong to both worlds. According to Kant, the personality derives nothing of value from its relationship with the empirical world. His part in the sensuous world of nature places man on a level with any animal which before long must give back to the rest of nature the substances of which it is made.

God: the Evidence by Ronald W. Larsen PhD Pdf

The “holy grail” of physics is quantum gravity, often called the theory of everything. But any scientific theory will be incomplete without the God of the Bible. Physicists claim the cosmos began with a big bang created from nothing. But the word nothing is meaningless in physics. Furthermore, the big bang is an impenetrable barrier to whatever preceded it. In addition, a finite cosmos cannot contain within itself an explanation for its own existence. To claim we are here by accident explains nothing and leads to a logical dead end. The cause of the universe is information in the form of mathematical laws left behind for science to discover. The fundamental properties of these laws have the same attributes as the Supreme Lawgiver of Genesis. An intelligible cosmos is unmistakable evidence the Creator is an Intelligent Mind. The Creator’s Voice is a valid scientific theory confirming the truth of Genesis; God spoke the laws creating the universe out of nothing, creatio ex nihilo. The foundation of the universe is ethereal cosmic waves which interact according to the laws to create and sustain the illusion of reality we experience. Space, time, energy and matter are made from quantum information; nothing else is needed. By a process of elimination, God is the only possible explanation for everything we know. The human mind is evidence consciousness is endemic to the cosmos. Cosmic waves interact with the human mind in mysterious ways. The cosmos relates to humans more like a great Mind than a mindless machine. The god-like nature of the human mind is evidence; we are made imago Dei. Even if God is included in a scientific theory, it means little unless it can be shown God is a real Being, alive, present in the world and relevant to our lives.
