The Flight of the Garuda by Anonim Pdf

Dzogchen, a tradition of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, is considered by many to be an extremely powerful path to enlightenment. This ground-breaking book offers translations of four sacred texts of the Dzogchen tradition: Secret Instruction in a Garland of Vision, The Flight of the Garuda, Emptying the Depths of Hell, and the Wish-Granting Prayer of Kuntu Zangpo. With an informative introduction by the translator, Flight of the Garuda is an invaluable resource for both practice and scholarship. Flight of the Garuda conveys the heart advice of one of the most beloved nonsectarian masters of Tibet. Ordained as a Gelug monk, the itinerant yogi Shabkar was renowned for his teachings on Dzogchen, the heart practice of the Nyingma lineage. He wandered the countryside of Tibet and Nepal, turning many minds toward the Dharma through his ability to communicate the essence of the teachings in a poetic and crystal-clear way. Buddhists of all stripes, including practitioners of Zen and Vipassana, will find ample sustenance within the pages of this book, and be thrilled by the lyrical insights conveyed in Shabkar's words. Along with the song by Shabkar, translator Keith Dowman includes several other seminal Dzogchen texts. Dzogchen practice brings us into direct communion with the subtlemost nature of our experience, the unity of samsara in nirvana as experienced within our own consciousness. Within the Nyingma school, it is held higher than even the practices of tantra for bringing the meditator face to face with the nature of reality.

Magic & Mysticism In Tibet by J. H. Brennan Pdf

Generations of isolated Tibetan monks have devoted their lives to an unparalleled investigation of the human mind and soul. Over many centuries, as Buddhism blended with Bon, the aboriginal shamanic religion of Tibet, a great esoteric tradition evolved. In this revised and ex-panded version of Occult Tibet, the pro-lific and eclectic J.H. Brennan surveys this vast spiritual heritage born in the shadows of the Himalayas. The evolutionary result is apparent in the Tibetan languages, which is choc-a-bloc with different terms for (to the average Westerner) incomprehensibly subtle levels of meditation and trance. Generations of monks, sequestered in monasteries that sometimes reached the size of small towns, devoted their lives to an investigation of the human mind that is literally unparalleled anywhere on earth. Where Western psychology chose the path of theory and investigation, these men became psychonauts, mounting a personal exploration of inner space that carried them to realms of strangeness ranging from the development of near miraculous powers to the contemplation of ultimate reality. This book explores their findings. It presents a unique and fascinating view of Tibetan culture and spirituality, Tibetan magic and Mysticism bringing the ancient magical techniques of Tibet to the magicians and mystics of the West.Delhi,

Magic and Mystery in Tibet by Alexandra David-Neel Pdf

Born in 1868 to a respectable French family, Alexandra David-Neel became the most remarkable female travel writer of the Twentieth century. David-Neel studied at the Sorbonne at a time when women were not allowed to formally matriculate and converted to Buddhism after viewing a statue of the Buddha in the Guimet Museum. In 1911 she set off, alone, to travel around India for the second time and in 1914 she secluded herself in a cave in the Himalayas for two years, intensively studying the mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the mystic legends that surrounded Buddhist monks. From 1918 she spent three years in a Buddhist monastery translating texts into French and English. By 1924 she had travelled to the forbidden city of Lhasa and returning to France in 1927 began to write, recording her extraordinary experiences. She died in 1969, 101 years old, still travelling, and an inspiration for a generation that included Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. Magic and Mystery in Tibet, like Seven Pillars of Wisdom, attempts to bring ancient wisdom into the modern age. David-Neel records the seemingly magic feats performed by Buddhist monks; telepathy, tumo breathing (the art of generating body heat to keep warm in freezing conditions), the ability to run for days at a time, the ability to defy gravity and the ability to become invisible. As a child David-Neel had wanted to search for the unknown and as an adult she went beyond the Western world, and into areas unexplained by Western science. No other Western writer has ever been so immersed in Tibetan culture and Buddhism, and few other books have entranced readers for seventy years. Seeker, adventurer, pilgrim, and scholar, David-Neel was the first European woman to explore the once-forbidden city of Lhasa. This memoir offers an objective account of the supernatural events she witnessed during the 1920s among the mystics and hermits of Tibet - including levitation, telepathy, and the ability to walk on water.
