The Christian Doctrine of Salvation (Classic Reprint) by George Barker Stevens Pdf

Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of Salvation The aim of the present work is to present a biblical, historical, and constructive discussion of the Christian doctrine of salvation. The theme has been regarded and treated primarily as a subject of investigation. I have accordingly approached it from the historical side, and have aimed to state the problems to be considered and to define my positions respecting them in an historical and inductive method. I have tried to judge the various opinions reviewed and to test my own by means of the fundamental Christian concepts of God and of man. The treatment has been made as objective as possible. It has been my aim to describe and estimate conflicting theories with fairness. My own judgments, with the reasons for them, have been frankly given. It is not to be expected, of course, that they will commend themselves to the acceptance of all readers, but I trust that those who may dissent from them may still find something in the book by which they may be interested or instructed. The present discussion presupposes a general knowledge of Biblical Theology and of the History of Christian Doctrine, such as is furnished by the relevant sections of my Theology of the New Testament and Professor Fisher's History of Christian Doctrine, earlier volumes of the International Theological Library. The Doctrine of the Ages (Classic Reprint) by Robert Cameron Pdf

Excerpt from The Doctrine of the Ages The substance of this book, in all of its essen tial features, was carefully read by the late Dr. A. J. Gordon, in manuscript. He urged its immediate publication, and consented to write an introduction to its pages. Before the closing chapters were completed he had passed away from his useful life. On this account his name has no connection with the book, further than this grateful acknowledgment of his encouraging words. The learned Dr. Harnack, in his History of Dogma, when speaking of the Christian's faith in God as the father of Jesus Christ, makes the following comprehensive statement: So far as this God is believed to be the omnipotent Lord of heaven and earth, the Christian religion includes a knowledge of God, of the world, and of the purpose of created things. These three spheres, then, are the proper objects of our contemplation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Outlines of Christian Doctrine (Classic Reprint) by Handley Carr Glyn Moule Pdf

Excerpt from Outlines of Christian Doctrine In the form of 8. Commentary upon the thirty-nine Articles. As the work proceeded the author was led to think that a sketch of the main doctrines of the Faith might be more generally useful, which, while always keeping in view the great historic Confession of the Church of which he thanks God he is a son and presbyter, should omit some topics contained in it and deal with others in a way somewhat different from that of a commentary. The work makes not the least pretension either to originality or to fulness. It will have well served its purpose if in any degree it can stimulate its readers to personal study, and suggest lines for work and thought. The Theology of the Bible, Or the True Doctrines of the Christian Faith Plainly Stated and Defended by S. C. Chandler Pdf

Excerpt from The Theology of the Bible, or the True Doctrines of the Christian Faith Plainly Stated and Defended: With a Key to the Revelations Anna 3 number of years spent in close labored study of the Holy Scriptures, in which the truths of divine origin have been contemplated regardless of the opinions of men, the Author is too deeply impressed with their sublimity and importance, and a sense of his obligations to God, and duty to his fellow-beings, to withhold from the world the result of his investigations. Ten Fundamental Doctrines (Classic Reprint) by B. J. W. Graham Pdf

Excerpt from Ten Fundamental Doctrines Believing that a fresh discussion of certain doctrines in The Christian Index would both do good and be appreciated, the editor conceived the idea of publishing a Doctrinal Number. Accordingly, he planned for ten articles on so many fundamental doctrines, and selected an equal number of men to prepare them. Fortunately, every man complied with his request and wrote on the subject assigned him. The issue was published, and a thousand extra copies were printed. It would have required several additional thousand copies to have supplied the demand. Before the publication of the Doctrinal Number, the subjects and the names of the men to discuss them were announced. This resulted in the suggestion that the articles be published in book form. Of course when the authors prepared the articles they had no thought that they would be published in permanent form. In justice to them their permission was sought and secured to make such use of them. Their publication in book form was conditioned upon advance orders. Such orders have been sufficiently large to authorize the publication of the book. "Election" and "The Lord's Supper" are discussed more fully than any of the other subjects. Classical Christian Doctrine by Ronald E. Heine Pdf

This clear and concise text helps readers grasp the doctrines of the Christian faith considered basic from the earliest days of Christianity. Ronald Heine, an internationally known expert on early Christian theology, developed this book from a course he teaches that has been refined through many years of classroom experience. Heine primarily uses the classical Christian doctrines of the Nicene Creed to guide students into the essentials of the faith. This broadly ecumenical work will interest students of church history or theology as well as adult Christian education classes in church settings. Sidebars identify major personalities and concepts, and each chapter concludes with discussion questions and suggestions for further reading.

Please see the description for this title below. But first... Our promise: All of our works are complete and unabridged. Neither will you find poorly done OCR versions of those faded scans either with illegible "words" that contain all kinds of strange characters like , %, &, etc. Our publications have all been looked over and corrected by the human eye. We can't promise perfection, but we're sure gonna try! Our goal is to bring you high quality Christian publications at rock bottom prices. Description: The author of these sermons has had a feeling for a long time that the great need in our churches in this day is systematic indoctrination. He put his theory into practice last winter in his own church, and these sermons are the result. We were having a great many accessions to our church. In the two years of the church's history we had had something like six hundred accessions to the church, and every month considerable numbers of new members were being added. While many of these came by letter from other churches, many of them were new converts and had had practically no systematic instruction in the fundamental truths of the Christian faith, so we announced a series of sermons on The Fundamental Doctrines of the Christian Faith. There was immediately a large increase in the attendance at the services where these addresses were given, and this increase has kept up until on the last Lord's Day we had much the largest attendance we have ever had, excepting on Easter Sunday. Many have testified to the blessing received from these sermons, and there has been a great demand that the sermons be printed for general circulation. This request has come from ministers of various denominations, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, and others. It is hoped that this volume will be useful to other pastors in suggesting lines of teaching in their regular pastoral work, and also that it may be used widely by pastors and others for circulation among Christians. We live in a day in which many of our church members are all at sea as to what they believe on the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. These sermons have already helped many through their delivery. It is hoped they will reach and help far more in the printed form.

The Doctrine of the Person of Jesus Christ (Classic Reprint) by H. R. Mackintosh Pdf

Excerpt from The Doctrine of the Person of Jesus Christ That there is a main stream, that the authors of the New Testament are eventually one in their view of Christ, with a unity which is powerful enough to absorb and subdue their differences Of interpretation, is not indeed to be lightheartedly assumed. But it is rendered ex tremely probable by the simple experimental fact that the Church has always found it possible to nourish her faith in the Redeemer from every part of the apostolic writings. Further, this natural presumption is vindicated by a closer scrutiny of the facts. Two certainties are shared in common by all New Testament writers: First, that the life and consciousness of Jesus was in form com pletely human; second, that this historic life, apprehended as instinct with the powers of redemption, is one with the life of God Himself. In Christ they find God personally present for our salvation from sin and death. Yet in spite or rather because of this basal agreement it is the more impressive to contemplate the sovereign freedom with which they surveyed Christ, telling what they saw in books which have been quite justly described as literature, not dogma. Each looked at Jesus with his own eyes; each Spoke out of his own mind; and to force their words about Him into a mechanical and external harmony is simply to misconceive the genius of Christian faith. The Christian Faith by Olin Alfred Curtis Pdf

Excerpt from The Christian Faith: Personally Given in a System of Doctrine Neither in claim nor in spirit is this book dogmatic. As indicated in several ways by the book itself, there is no attempt to speak the final word, no aim to be, or to become, the recognized authority of any church, or of any school, or of any man. After years of preparatory waiting, I have, I believe, caught an important vision of the Christian Faith as an organic whole of doctrine, and I am eager to help other men to catch the same vision.
