The Great Violinists and Pianists by George T. Ferris Pdf

Excerpt from The Great Violinists and Pianists The title of this little book may be misleading to some of its readers, in its failure to include sketches of many eminent artists well worthy to be classed under such a head. There has been no attempt to cover the immense field of executive music, but only to call attention to the lives of those musical celebrities who are universally recognized as occupying the most exalted places in the arts of violin and pianoforte playing; who stand forth as landmarks in the history of music. To do more than this, except in a merely encyclopedic fashion, within the allotted space, would have been impossible. The same necessity of limits has also compelled the writer to exclude consideration of the careers of noted living performers; as it was thought best that discrimination should be in favor of those great artists whose careers have been completely rounded and finished. The Story of the Violin (Classic Reprint) by Paul Stoeving Pdf

Excerpt from The Story of the Violin Who will describe it, tone Of a Stradivari violin, when the true artist draws it from its hiding-place? That indescribably sweet voice - voice of an angel and yet ringing with the dear familiar sound of earth, with earthly passions, joys and woes and ecstasies; intensely human and yet so superhuman that the soul is seized with hopeless longing to follow it, to oat with it through realms unknown and infinite, charged, we know not how, with music or with love. Yes, indescribably sweet voice, where thou endest the music of the Spheres begins. (or, is it thai perhaps which rises from the petals of owers in wondrous ex halations, half-perfume and half-melody, and, trembling in the sunlight, draws the bee the way to the honey P) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Violin and Its Music (Classic Reprint) by George Hart Pdf

Excerpt from The Violin and Its Music Violin and its famous makers was received with so much indulgence by my friends and admirers of the leading instrument. The signs of approval which have from time to time been brought under my notice with regard to the publication of that book, prompted me to again occupy some portion of my leisure hours in the preparation'of another volume, treating of the remaining branch of the same subject, namely: The Violin and its Music. I need scarcely remark, that I am not unmindful of the distinctive character of the two undertakings, and of the wholly different knowledge necessary to be brought to bear upon each. Celebrated Violinists, Past and Present (Classic Reprint) by Robin Humphrey Legge Pdf

Excerpt from Celebrated Violinists, Past and Present Lest there be readers of this book who are inclined to cavil because it does not include the name of one or other of their best friends or pet musical gods, I would like to say that though one or two biographical sketches have been added to the original work, yet the book never was intended to be a perfect dictionary of violinists. Dictionaries exist in numbers already. The aim of the present volume is to give a few more details concerning some of the greatest of stringed instrument players than room could be found for in an ordinary biographical dictionary. It will, I think, be generally conceded, that no name of the first importance has been omitted. In view of later editions the translator will esteem it a favour if readers will send corrections of any mistakes to the publisher. Great Violinists and Pianists by George T. Ferris Pdf

The ancestry of the violin, considering this as the type of stringed instruments played with a bow, goes back to the earliest antiquity; and innumerable passages might be quoted from the Oriental and classical writers illustrating the important part taken by the forefathers of the modern violin in feast, festival, and religious ceremonial, in the fiery delights of battle, and the more dulcet enjoyments of peace. But it was not till the fifteenth century, in Italy, that the art of making instruments of the viol class began to reach toward that high perfection which it speedily attained.
