The Green Man Returns by Harold Morrow Sherman Pdf

Armchair Fiction presents the best in classic science fiction novels. "The Green Man Returns" is a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi satire written by Harold M. Sherman. Was it the last chance for Earth? The Great Light came to Earth as the Green Man had said-and there was no war... In this tongue-in-cheek, often moralistic sequel to "The Green Man," Numar of Talamaya returns to tell the world of his far-reaching plan to change Earth into an eternally peaceful planet. A galactic citizen of wide-spread magnitude, Numar predicts the destruction of Earth if his instructions are not carefully adhered to. Numar's complex plan is based on a socialistic culture where all the planet's citizens are essentially equal. The problem he faced, though, was enlisting the cooperation of those people on the higher end of Earth's social spectrum. Would he succeed, or would Earth's destruction become imminent? Find out in this wild, satirical tale from the pages of Raymond A. Palmer's "Amazing Stories" magazine.

The Hidden Spirituality of Men by Matthew Fox Pdf

It is no secret that men are in trouble today. From war to ecological collapse, most of the world’s critical problems stem from a distorted masculinity out of control. Yet our culture rewards the very dysfunctions responsible for those problems. To Matthew Fox, our crucial task is to open our minds to a deeper understanding of the healthy masculine than we receive from our media, culture, and religions. Popular religion forces the punitive imagery of fundamentalism on us, pushing most men away from their natural yearning for spirituality and toward intolerance and domination. Meanwhile, many men, particularly young men, are looking for images of healthy masculinity to emulate and finding nothing. To awaken what Fox calls “the sacred masculine,” he unearths ten metaphors, or archetypes, ranging from the Green Man, an ancient pagan symbol of our fundamental relationship with nature, to the Grandfatherly Heart to the Spiritual Warrior. He explores archetypes of sacred marriage, showing how partnership becomes the ultimate expression of healthy masculinity. By stirring our natural yearning for healthy spirituality, Fox argues, these timeless archetypes can inspire men to pursue their higher calling to reinvent the world.

The Land of the Green Man by Carolyne Larrington Pdf

Beyond its housing estates and identikit high streets there is another Britain. This is the Britain of mist-drenched forests and unpredictable sea-frets: of wraith-like fog banks, druidic mistletoe and peculiar creatures that lurk, half-unseen, in the undergrowth, tantalising and teasing just at the periphery of human vision. How have the remarkably persistent folkloric traditions of the British Isles formed and been formed by the identities and psyches of those who inhabit them? In her sparkling new history, Carolyne Larrington explores the diverse ways in which a myriad of imaginary and fantastical beings has moulded the cultural history of the nation. Fairies, elves and goblins here tread purposefully, sometimes malignly, over an eerie, preternatural landscape that also conceals brownies, selkies, trows, knockers, boggarts, land-wights, Jack o'Lanterns, Barguests, the sinister Nuckleavee, or water-horse, and even Black Shuck: terrifying hell-hound of the Norfolk coast with eyes of burning coal. Focusing on liminal points where the boundaries between this world and that of the supernatural grow thin those marginal tide-banks, saltmarshes, floodplains, moors and rock-pools wherein mystery lies the author shows how mythologies of Mermen, Green men and Wild-men have helped and continue to help human beings deal with such ubiquitous concerns as love and lust, loss and death and continuity and change. Evoking the Wild Hunt, the ghostly bells of Lyonesse and the dread fenlands haunted by Grendel, and ranging the while from Shetland to Jersey and from Ireland to East Anglia, this is a book that will captivate all those who long for the wild places: the mountains and chasms where Gog, Magog and their fellow giants lie in wait."

Revealing The Green Man by Mark Olly Pdf

Revealing the Green Man is designed to impart a practical revelation of a deep and ancient mystery through actual archaeological and historic case studies which point to personal intellectual and spiritual enlightenment affecting everyone alive today. The book is not just a lazy stroll through entertaining stories of some lost mystery cult, but a resurrection of a long and ancient religion as old as time itself which is now challenging us to care for our environment here in the modern world. The Green Man proves himself to be a great deal more than a cute chubby face peering at us through a veil of leaves, rather he could be said to be a true representation of the very essence of life itself.

When the first edition was published, Science Fiction Age said: "Lexicon Urthus makes a perfect gift for any fan of [Wolfe's] work, and from the way his words sell, it appears that there are many deserving readers out there waiting." Gary K. Wolfe, in Locus, said: "A convenient and well researched glossary of names and terms. . . . It provides enough of a gloss on the novels that it almost evokes Wolfe's distant future all by itself. . . . It can provide both a useful reference and a good deal of fun." Donald Keller said, in the New York Review of Science Fiction: "A fruitful product of obsession, this is a thorough . . . dictionary of the Urth Cycle. . . . Andre-Driussi's research has been exhaustive, and he has discovered many fascinating things . . . [it is] head-spinning to confront a myriad of small and large details, some merely interesting, others jawdropping."

THE GREEN MEN by Satyajit Ray,Premendra Mitra,Adrish Bardhan,Dilip Roychowdhury Pdf

The story that vanished into thin air... Many years ago, when the triumphant march of science fiction in Bengali literature had just begun, the Sahityabashor programme of All India Radio featured an extraordinary story read by Satyajit Ray, Premendra Mitra, Dilip Roychowdhury, and Adrish Bardhan. A single story. None of them revealed the entire plot to the others. Premendra Mitra began it, and Satyajit Ray ended it. Dilip Roychowdhury and Adrish Bardhan took the story forward. None of the three had told one another, or Ray, how the story should end. He composed the final episode with a combination of marvellous imaginativeness and superb craft. And he created a sensation when telling his story. With his inimitable baritone he proved that writing and narrating are not the same thing, that the written word can create a deeply resounding work of art through speech. He had asked for a glass of water to take into the studio. When the recording was complete, everyone who listened to the playback was overwhelmed. The title of The Green Men was given by Premendra Mitra. The idea for a story with different episodes contributed by various writers was his too. The story, however, had vanished into thin air after being read on air—though the tape survives. It was published twice, in All India Radio’s Betar Jagat magazine, and subsequently in Fantastic magazine. It does not appear in any collection of stories by Satyajit Ray, Premendra Mitra, Dilip Roychowdhury, or Adrish Bardhan. This is the first-ever English translation of "The Green Men" being published as an independent story. We thank and acknowledge Kalpabiswa for publishing the story in Bengali as "Shobuj Manush."

The Eagle in Green Man’s Clearing by A. L. O'Connor Pdf

The Romans come to Britannia with one mission: settle their people and add Britannia to their ever-expanding empire. In first century AD, centurion Quintus Agricolanus travels to Gosbecks. Power-hungry Rome seeks to make Gosbecks a colonia for retiring soldiers but must first clear out its current occupants. To achieve this, they enter into treaties with local Celtic tribes, but these treaties are heavily slanted toward the Roman government and levy unrealistic taxes on the indigenous people. Beyond the Celts, the Romans must also deal with the Druids of Britannia: religious leaders that act in judicial roles. The Druids are a serious source of potential problems, so the Romans strive to stamp out this priestly class. However, they do not manage to kill all of them, as some Druids escape to spread word of these horrors. The Romans hope to establish their colony by changing the native people—but will they end up changed instead?
