The Implosion of Negativity by Andreas Hau Pdf

Die Dissertation The Implosion of Negativity ist in englischer Sprache verfasst. Der Anhang enthält eine deutsche Zusammenfassung, eine umfassende Bibliographie und ein persönliches Interview mit Paul Auster. Englischer Klappentext: For most readers and critics Paul Auster's oeuvre begins with The New York Trilogy, yet his major success as a novelist was preceded by a decade of almost obsessive devotion to poetry. The Implosion of Negativity is the first book-length study of Paul Auster's early work. From his dense, intensely lyric sequences of the early 1970s to the more discursive style of Auster's final book of poems, Facing the Music (1980), and on to his experimental prose of the early eighties, The Implosion of Negativity traces a fascinating journey through the author's formative years. Andreas Hau's dissertation begins with a detailed analysis of Auster's early long poem "Unearth", examines overlooked influences such as Paul Celan and Martin Buber, and continues with Auster's exploration of his Jewish heritage in Wall Writing, his rediscovery of the American objectivists in "Disappearances", and his encounters with the visual arts in Fragments from Cold. Cme Vulnerability, The: The Impact Of Negative Oil Futures Trading by George Xianzhi Yuan Pdf

In 2020, the global lockdowns caused by the COVID-19, or coronavirus, pandemic had resulted in a sharp drop in demand for crude oil. This impact was so severe that on April 8, 2020, a proposal to update the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings Inc. (CME) trading rule to permit negative prices was applied to CME's WTI Oil futures contracts; this led to a novel phenomenon in which the closing clearing price of WTI Oil May future was $-37.63/barrel based on fewer than 400 contracts' trading volume in the last three minutes, reflecting less than 0.2% of the total trading contracts volume on April 20, 2020. This occurrence of negative closing clearing price for CME's WTI Oil futures trading, cannot be explained simply by just the principle of supply and demand; instead, it highlights vulnerabilities caused by CME's allowance of negative price trading (based on its trading platform), a decision which brings potential and fundamental challenges to the global financial system. This event challenges not just our basic concepts of 'value' and trading 'price' of commodities and goods that underline our understanding of the framework for the invisible hand and general equilibrium theory in economics established by a few generations of scholars since Adam Smith in 1776 for market economies, but also have wider implications on the fundamentals that underpin our ideas of value and labor in the organization, activity, and behavior of civilizations and individual liberties. The scope of this book is limited to covering the impact of the negative oil futures derivatives' trading between April 20 and 21, 2020. This book focuses on exploring the issues, challenges, and possible impacts on global financial markets due to the negative clearing prices of WTI Oil futures contracts and related problems from different perspectives. Topics covered include the responsibilities and liabilities of the CME; critique to the fundamental theory of economics and the modern understanding of value and labor; and challenges to the global financial systems and businesses and introduction to new methods of application.

ETERNAL LIFE - by John O'Loughlin Pdf

Cryptically subtitled 'Supernotes from Beyond', ETERNAL LIFE is by any standards a substantial compilation of essayistic aphorisms which cycle, or pass through several turns of the spiral of metaphysical ascension, on their otherworldly way towards philosophical perfection (theosophy), always with a view to advancing and enhancing the ideological philosophy of Social Transcendentalism. With a full quadruplicity of Elemental postulates, that is, fire, water, vegetation (earth) and air, few contexts evade a thoroughgoing critique of their respective components, whether in relation to space, time, volume, or mass, but continue to portend the possibility of definitive presentation.

The Magma of War by Edgar Illas Pdf

War, from the conflicts in the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine to Mexican narco-violence, from neocolonial land grabs in the Global South to racial, border, health, and climate crises all over the planet, defines the most extreme and contradictory expression of the global world. In this fascinating exploration on the history of the thinking of conflict, Edgar Illas departs from military and sociological analyses to propose a theoretical exploration of war as the ontological force that produces political orders. Magma is used as a geological metaphor to theorize the mixtures of politics and war that organize, and disorganize, global society. Divided into two parts, Illas’ study begins by surveying some of the most important thinkers of war, moving from classical antiquity to the twentieth century. Each thinker provides a different inflection in the historical evolution of the being of war. The second part turns to a theorization of the twenty-first century to claim that conflictive relations between capital, state power, political movements, and social life in globalization culminate and at the same time reiterate the paradoxes of war as an ontological event. The Magma of War is an energizing contribution to the task of rethinking politics in relation to war and an invaluable resource to all those conscious of the unstable forms of contemporary social and political life.

Susceptibility of Distribution Systems to Negative Pressure Transients by Kala K. Fleming Pdf

Low or negative pressure transients (also called surge or water hammer) create temporary opportunities for external chemical and microbial contaminants at higher pressure to enter the water distribution system, creating potential health hazard and potential weakening of distribution pipes, leading to failure. This study investigates how such events as power outages, pump shutdowns, valve operations, main flushing, firefighting, and main breaks can create significant rapid, temporary drops in system pressure. The report offers useful recommendations for using surge models to optimally locate pressure monitors and to minimize the occurrence and impact from low- and negative-pressure transients.

Dollarocracy by John Nichols,Robert W. McChesney Pdf

Fresh from the first 10 billion election campaign, two award-winning authors show how unbridled campaign spending defines our politics and, failing a dramatic intervention, signals the end of our democracy. Blending vivid reporting from the 2012 campaign trail and deep perspective from decades covering American and international media and politics, political journalist John Nichols and media critic Robert W. McChesney explain how US elections are becoming controlled, predictable enterprises that are managed by a new class of consultants who wield millions of dollars and define our politics as never before. As the money gets bigger -- especially after the Citizens United ruling -- and journalism, a core check and balance on the government, declines, American citizens are in danger of becoming less informed and more open to manipulation. With groundbreaking behind-the-scenes reporting and staggering new research on "the money power," Dollarocracy shows that this new power does not just endanger electoral politics; it is a challenge to the DNA of American democracy itself.
