The Island of World Peace by Gwisook Gwon Pdf

This book explores the history of the Jeju massacre (1947-1954), the deadest recognized civilian massacre in modern South Korean history, through the lens of state building in South Korea. Jeju-based sociologist Gwisook Gwon examines the massacre on Jeju Island in relation to the birth of anti-communist South Korea in the early Cold War, while also focusing on the reintegration of Jeju Islanders into the state through the history of Jeju soldiers in the Korean War (1950-1953) and the history of Jeju women in the economic recovery and modernization between the 1950s and the 1970s. The study of these post-massacre legacies is novel to South Korean history. The book also discusses the on-going reconciliation of the 4.3 historical conflicts and the transformation of Jeju into an “Island of World Peace.” This fresh and original study offers an empirical example of state-building processes at the local level in South Korea from the origin of the state to its democratization. In doing so, it contributes to several fields, including, the Korean War, state violence, conflict resolution studies, gender studies, and Asian and Korean studies.

World Peace through Inner Happiness by Lela Ryterski Pdf

Nichiren, a thirteenth-century Japanese Buddhist monk, discovered a secret teaching that presents a powerful, practical method to create inner happiness. It is known as a “wish-granting jewel” or a “cluster of blessings.” Practitioners of this method gain wisdom, courage, confidence, and fortune in their lives. In World Peace through Inner Happiness, Lela Ryterski provides a concise history of the development of this practice used today by the Soka Gakkai, the organization that emerged from Nichiren’s teachings. The Soka Gakkai has fostered a revolutionary worldwide Buddhist movement. Ms. Ryterski has been a member for over thirty-five years. She admits to having been a shy and timid person. Making wrong decisions and living according to others, she felt like a leaf in the wind. Through the practice of Nichiren Buddhism, she has become strong. She’s learned that she’s an important person, and so is everyone. We’re all born because we have a mission, and we’re on this path together. By infusing society with this teaching, we can transform the world from one mired in suffering to one of peace. World Peace through Inner Happiness gives a rational account of how to make the impossible possible. You cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that you can do.

The Routledge History of World Peace since 1750 by Christian Philip Peterson,William M. Knoblauch,Michael Loadenthal Pdf

The Routledge History of World Peace since 1750 examines the varied and multifaceted scholarship surrounding the topic of peace and engages in a fruitful dialogue about the global history of peace since 1750. Interdisciplinary in nature, the book includes contributions from authors working in fields as diverse as history, philosophy, literature, art, sociology, and Peace Studies. The book crosses the divide between historical inquiry and Peace Studies scholarship, with traditional aspects of peace promotion sitting alongside expansive analyses of peace through other lenses, including specific regional investigations of the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and other parts of the world. Divided thematically into six parts that are loosely chronological in structure, the book offers a broad overview of peace issues such as peacebuilding, state building, and/or conflict resolution in individual countries or regions, and indicates the unique challenges of achieving peace from a range of perspectives. Global in scope and supported by regional and temporal case studies, the volume is an essential resource for educators, activists, and policymakers involved in promoting peace and curbing violence as well as students and scholars of Peace Studies, history, and their related fields.

New Approach To World Peace by Haresh Makhijani Pdf

(A) For the most part, World Peace has been a subject matter of G7 Countries and, typically the United Nation has been the key negotiator in resolving international conflicts The “New Approach to World Peace” identifies the two hurdles, that human beings have, to overcome to attain global peace so that every person can enjoy and move freely on this Earth. The first hurdle, is purely political, that is far too many people live in countries where citizens are not allowed to think free because, governments are too authoritarian, as in China, or like in Russia where Democracy has been high jacked or because of the flawed constitution as in India. The second hurdle is that, societies are so bound by their religion that free-thinking or human development is NOT easy. In both cases, citizens have limitations in contributing towards World Peace. The Elements of World Peace that is, Republicanism and Neosecularism explained in this book, answers both these issues. The book also elaborates on how and why we should, launch a campaign for World Peace. (B) Elements of World Peace -Constitutional Doctrine of Separation of Powers. -People are Free, the Government have restrictions. The government must make laws by representation only. - Citizens have powers to change the Government when representation fails. -Constitution must guarantee human rights including minority rights. -Supranational Body gives additional power to citizens of Member States to protect individual rights. -Society practices Secularism

World Peace by Salomon Alain Mpouma Pdf

The author surrounds personal tales with reflections on finding happiness within oneself, including truisms from thinkers like Woodsworth and Gandhi. Mpouma has a lot to say about his life, which has been one of never fitting in. Things took a harsh turn when he was two years old and his father, a candidate for public office in Cameroon, was assassinated. Growing up amid the resulting family turmoil, Mpouma was frequently getting into trouble at home and at school. He bounced around from the homes of his mother, brothers, and foster father, and never felt wanted. During this time, he sensed a connection with his deceased grandfather, known as Oboss, the one who messes things up. Mpouma was comforted and inspired by the memory of his outspoken grandfather and his honesty in family or village meetings. In his twenties, Mpouma won the familys approval by getting married and working at the bank. But his heart wasnt in the marriage, and after he got divorced, that approval disappeared. Mpouma joined Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a Buddhist organization that promotes world peace via achieving personal inner peace. (Excerpt from Kirkus Discoveries, Nielsen Business Media)

The Realities of Reality - Part IV: The Reality Behind Achieving World Peace by Fritz Dufour, MBA, DÉSS Pdf

This book is organized in seven chapters. Chapter one looks at the origins and the causes of war. The chapter argues that war is a consequence of how we, as a species, have evolved. War has both endogenous and exogenous causes. While the former depends on our biology and psychology, the latter has to do primarily with international relations. Chapter two makes the case for the paradoxical nature of war. While war takes lives, it is legitimate under certain circumstances. For example, armed humanitarian interventions are allowed to save lives among local populations at the expense of the oppressors by employing all necessary means – ethical or not. Chapter three asks if peace among nations is achievable, which is the main theme of this book. However, it does not elaborate on the question entirely. Instead, it gives sort of a prelude of what will be discussed in the remaining of the book by talking about the concepts of world order and American hegemony, arms race, and peacebuilding. Chapter four builds on three by looking at realism, idealism, and pacifism in international relations. As to pacifism, the chapter attempts to answer the question, what was the most peaceful time in history? Chapter five presents the elements of hope for world peace by considering the role played by the following: (1) the United Nations; (2) the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO); (3) the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE); (4) the non-governmental organizations (NGOs); (5) the role of nuclear deterrence; (6) globalization; (7) transnationalism; (8) diplomacy; (9) sports; (10) international cooperation in space exploration; (11) the Nobel Prize; and (12) the declining of war and violence in modern times. On the other hand, chapter six presents the opposite argument or the barriers to world peace, using the following points: (1) the proliferation of nuclear weapons; (2) geoeconomics; (3) terrorism; (4) the global refugee crisis; (5) the profitability of arms sales; and (6) the profitability of wars. It makes an interesting argument especially as to the profitability of wars by showing how the United States, first, emerged as an imperial and a world power in the 1890s; then as the only world’s superpower after World War II. Finally, chapter seven takes a proactive approach by peering into the future of armed conflict, which is likely to take place in new environments: Cyberspace, the littoral, choke points, near space, and increasingly in expanding cities or slums War. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the Doomsday Clock, a concept stemmed from the uncertainty as to the future of mankind because of armed conflicts and which is a symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe.

Democracy and Deterrence: Foundations for an Enduring World Peace by Walter Gary Sharp Pdf

Two fundamental strategies are necessary to create lasting peace in the world: facilitating the spread of democracy and maintaining comprehensive deterrence mechanisms targeted at individual world leaders. Sharp surveys conventional approaches to avoiding war and presents evidence to validate the democratic peace principle (the notion that democracies are inherently more peaceful than non-democracies) and the incentive theory of war avoidance, formulated by John Norton Moore. Sharp proposes a mathematical formula that can be used to predict the probability of peace for a given nation. Comprehensive tables collate data from multiple sources on freedom and human development in nations around the world.

A New Pathway to World Peace by Ted Becker,Brian Polkinghorn Pdf

Horrific changes are descending upon humanity, most of them man-made, all of them threatening the survival of humankind on Mother Earth. Forever wars, the threat of nuclear destruction, the ecology collapsing worldwide, swelling waves of migrants, and unprecedented global inequality of wealth are upon us. The dominant, modern worldview prevailing for many centuries has produced all the above and needs swift and radical change. Central to this unfolding tragedy stands the United States, boasting its "exceptionality." Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America coined and defined how America was an "exceptional" nation. However, the America he lauded in the early 1800s and what it has become today are as different as Antarctica and Hawai'i. This book is designed to pry open the eyes and minds of people everywhere about the true nature of the US as a spiritual and political (but not militaristic) nation, one to emulate and with whom to collaborate on helping resolve the violence and myopia plaguing humankind right now. It illuminates a new way to reshape American thinking, and that of the whole world, sensibly and with sensitivity to all humanity and the planet itself. But you must read to the last word to absorb the entire vision.

China's Rise, Taiwan's Dilemma's and International Peace by Edward Friedman Pdf

If we are to believe the media then a war between China and Taiwan is inevitable. Incorporating interviews, archives and original research, this book examines the troubled relationship between China, Taiwan and the US, bringing Taiwanese views on identity politics to the forefront of the discussion. Centering on the primary issues facing Taiwan, China and the US, the book analyzes Taiwan’s need to prevent China’s rule suffocating their cherished democracy. It questions whether China will pursue military force to achieve political and economic dominance over Taiwan, and how the US proposes to maintain peace between these two countries to ensure both a continuation of democracy in Taiwan and good relations with China. In highlighting these issues, the book seeks to offer practical policy alternatives that could help to advance the cause of freedom and international peace. Featuring chapters from an international group of academics, the book makes a valuable edition to the understanding of Taiwan-China relations within an international context.

Human Freedom and World Peace under the Nuclear Threat by Jiang Rongchang, Zhou Qingyun, Zhao Liangjie Pdf

This discussion has been running with high intensity for half a year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the world is under the unclear threat by Russia. What can human do to deal with this problem? Based on a rigorous argument for the right of self-defense, this book proposes the establishment of a human freedom fund to activate the civil military rights that all human beings necessarily hold as a free person to build a new separation of powers system that can effectively check the usurped political forces of the powerful state. This new system of separation of three powers will allow all human beings to become modern "homo erectus," put an end to the historical fate of individual human lives and put an end to the possibility of various forms of alienated power enslaving human beings.
