The M.V.M. Cappellin Glassworks and the Young Carlo Scarpa by Marino Barovier,Carla Sonego Pdf

A new publication in the series "Le Stanze del Vetro", a project for the study and enhancement of Venetian glassmaking in the 20th century, from a collaboration between the Fondazione Cini and Pentagram Stiftung. This volume accompanies the fall exhibition in Venice dedicated to the history of master glassmaker Muranesi Cappellin & C. (which Giacomo Cappellin founded after breaking with Paolo Venini and the V.S.M. Cappellin Venini & C.) to become one of the most important glass companies thanks also to its collaboration with a young architect, Carlo Scarpa. The vast production ranges from transparent glass to milky glass with gold, or glass paste and cased glass, or Phoenician decorations and figures, animals and plants; plus important lighting works. The entire output of Cappellin is documented (open from 1925 to 1931), placing the spotlight above all on the contribution of the major architect and glass designer Carlo Scarpa, his work during the 1920s and his relations with the arts. The book also discusses the production and exhibitions of Cappellin in Paris and the United States, relations established with artists in Turin and its very unique glass productions. Edited by Marino Barovier, this volume includes the catalogue of the complete works by Carlo Scarpa for Cappellin and is an indispensible tool for collectors, scholars and art dealers.

Structures and Architecture. A Viable Urban Perspective? contains extended abstracts of the research papers and prototype submissions presented at the Fifth International Conference on Structures and Architecture (ICSA2022, Aalborg, Denmark, 6-8 July 2022). The book (578 pages) also includes a USB with the full texts of the papers (1448 pages). With each volume further challenging the conditions, problems, and potentials related to the art, practice, and theory of teaching, researching, designing, and building structures as vehicles towards a viable architecture of the urban environment. The volumes of the series appear once every three years, in tandem with the conferences organized by the International Association of Structures and Architecture and are intended for a global readership of researchers, practitioners, and students, including architects, structural and construction engineers, builders and building consultants, constructors, material suppliers, planners, urban designers, anthropologists, economists, sociologists, artists, product manufacturers, and other professionals involved in the design and realization of architectural, structural, and infrastructural projects.

Carlo Scarpa and the Castelvecchio by Richard Murphy Pdf

The Castelvecchio in Verona, renovated between 1958 & 1964 as a museum is the best known project of the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978). The author, Richard Murphy, traces the initial ideas as represented by Scarpa's beautiful yet incisive sketches, through the various stages of work to building completion. Numerous drawings by Scarpa, many illustrated in colour, are supplemented by Murphy's own superb measured line drawings, which accurately show the full realisation of Scarpa's building as it stands today.

Venetian Glass by Carlo Scarpa by Marino Barovier,Carlo Scarpa Pdf

A splendid catalogue devoted to the work of an artist who was responsible for some of the most original glass artworks in art history. Through around 300 works, documents, and original drawings from private collections and museums from all over the world, this important volume reconstructs the work and life of Carlo Scarpa from the very beginnings of his career when he worked as artistic director for the Venini glassworks, between 1932 and 1947. The experience acquired in those years offered Scarpa the possibility of following the experimental vocation that was to also distinguish his work as an architect, and to carry forward research intended to investigate the expressive possibilities of glass the material, to experiment with the age-old crafting techniques of the old masters of Murano and to update the traditional forms of craftsmanship in glass. It is no coincidence that Scarpa's glasswork can be organized into no less than thirty distinct styles, differentiated by the technique of execution and the glass construction method used. We need only think of the corrosi (corroded), in which the material is attacked and eaten into by sawdust soaked in hydrofluoric acid. Under Scarpa's artistic direction the forms created at the Venini glassworks are more sober and modern, with geometrical inspiration, and above all, the importance of the role of the designer is established in the history of 20th-century Venetian glass, which owes much of its substantial renewal to him.
