The Min Jie Formulary Companion: A Series of Systematic Deconstructions of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Series One: Category Volume Three: Temperature by by John Mini Pdf

Are you ready to explore the relationships between temperature and category in Chinese herbal medicine? The Min Jie Formulary Companion Series One Volume Three is the place to begin! There are many gems in the Chinese pharmacopoeia that are hidden in plain view. One of the best ways to grasp these hidden gems is by systematically deconstructing the entire pharmacopoeia and going through a process of discovering how this extraordinary material can organically reassemble itself into different forms. The Min Jie Formulary Companion series is a systematic deconstruction of the Chinese pharmacopoeia based on Category, Taste, Temperature, Territory, Internal Relationships and Number. The first series, of which this is the third part, focuses on the deconstruction and reconstruction of category. This volume focuses on the deconstruction and reconstruction of temperature by category. The Min Jie Formulary Companion is useful precisely because the Chinese pharmacopoeia is so gigantic and detailed. This enormity can prevent us from getting to the core of what we seek in the intensity of the clinical moment. The structure of The Min Jie Formulary Companion may break some taboos in the world of traditional Chinese medicine, but putting our pharmacopoeia into a series of new, systematic and coherent forms helps us to locate what we need in that critical clinical moment. It also helps us to make meaningful comparisons between herbs in our process of differentiation when we're prescribing. Moreover, it helps us to make connections between herbs and their functions that we might never arrive at without physically seeing them arranged in a variety of ways. Beyond that, novel organization patterns also help us to undergo a more systematic process of assessing, diagnosing, treating and prescribing with our patients. The current popular structure of the Chinese pharmacopoeia has a definite systemic coherence. Yet it's so complex and esoteric that very few practitioners truly understand or appreciate how it was designed, even though they might use it every working day. One of the main purposes of these deconstructions is to begin to bring to light many of the invisible secrets that are built into the organization of the Chinese pharmacopoeia. It's been my experience that this process can help us to value and respect this information more completely, and ultimately become better practitioners of our medicine.

Relationships are the metalanguage of the Min Jie school. They allow us to move between the lines of rigid definitions and onto the actual playing field of life. Working directly with classical relationships allows Min Jie practitioners to diagnose and treat complex systems of interrelationships and areas that evade detection if we only focus on the basics of anatomy, channel territories and/or physiology. In essence, being aware of the classical relationships between channels adds dimension to our perspectives and abilities to diagnose and treat our patients. If there is anything truly unique and special about traditional Chinese medicine, it is the understanding and exquisitely detailed mapping of the territories of the channels, their functions and pathologies. Other dimensions such as taste and temperature are shared by nearly all indigenous medicine systems, but this gorgeous entanglement of energies, functions, tissues and physiological systems is what makes our system shine. This volume focuses on the deconstruction and reconstruction of channels by category. The contrasts between channel territories and categories give us the down-and-dirty basics of where an herb is going in the body and what it's going to do once it gets there. Every miracle cure from a magic formula that I have seen has boiled down to a single methodology, which is a very precise application of the qualities of the herbs to an incredibly detailed utilization of the channel territories. This book is one of the best ways to study and apply these vital relationships.

What does number have to do with traditional Chinese medicine? We're talking about biological science here, aren't we? Where does number come in?Prescribing herbs is something like doing geometry. We know what we need to do, we just need to discover the most elegant, efficient and effective means to do it. In this light, the practice of our medicine is very much like an exercise in geometry. The biological science of traditional Chinese medicine is based on reestablishing and properly maintaining the healthy interconnections and relationships between what is overtly biological inside the body with what is covertly biological outside the body. Each becomes the other to form a biological continuum. How does number relate to this continuum? Numbers define relationships. There are many gems in the Chinese pharmacopoeia that are hidden in plain view. Healing with Poisons by Yan Liu Pdf

Open access edition: DOI 10.6069/9780295749013 At first glance, medicine and poison might seem to be opposites. But in China’s formative era of pharmacy (200–800 CE), poisons were strategically employed as healing agents to cure everything from abdominal pain to epidemic disease. Healing with Poisons explores the ways physicians, religious figures, court officials, and laypersons used toxic substances to both relieve acute illnesses and enhance life. It illustrates how the Chinese concept of du—a word carrying a core meaning of “potency”—led practitioners to devise a variety of methods to transform dangerous poisons into effective medicines. Recounting scandals and controversies involving poisons from the Era of Division to the Tang, historian Yan Liu considers how the concept of du was central to how the people of medieval China perceived both their bodies and the body politic. He also examines the wide range of toxic minerals, plants, and animal products used in classical Chinese pharmacy, including everything from the herb aconite to the popular recreational drug Five-Stone Powder. By recovering alternative modes of understanding wellness and the body’s interaction with foreign substances, this study cautions against arbitrary classifications and exemplifies the importance of paying attention to the technical, political, and cultural conditions in which substances become truly meaningful. Healing with Poisons is freely available in an open access edition thanks to TOME (Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem) and the generous support of the University of Buffalo.

Stockley's Herbal Medicines Interactions by Elizabeth M. Williamson,Samuel Driver,Karen Baxter Pdf

This is a professional level major reference work containing information, in A-Z format, on herb-drug, herb-supplement, herb -food and herb-laboratory test interactions; all of which is data referenced. Commercial herbal medicinal products are increasingly consumed on a regular basis by people in the developed world. Often such products are taken concurrently with conventional medicines, frequently without the knowledge of health care professionals. As more evidence has become available, there has been an increasing awareness of the potential and actual problems of interactions, often dangerous, between conventional medicines and herbal medicines. This proposed new major reference brings together available data on approximately 200 of the most commonly used herbal medicines in highly structured, rigorously scientific monographs. Although our texts on herbal medicines and drug interactions include the major well-known interactions, this text is able to treat the subject in considerably more detail.

Healthy China: Deepening Health Reform in China by The World Bank;World Health Organization Pdf

The report recommends that China maintain the goal and direction of its healthcare reform, and continue the shift from its current hospital-centric model that rewards volume and sales, to one that is centered on primary care, focused on improving the quality of basic health services, and delivers high-quality, cost-effective health services. With 20 commissioned background studies, more than 30 case studies, visits to 21 provinces in China, the report proposes practical, concrete steps toward a value-based integrated service model of healthcare financing and delivery, including: 1) Creating a new model of people-centered quality integrated health care that strengthens primary care as the core of the health system. This new care model is organized around the health needs of individuals and families and is integrated with higher level care and social services. 2) Continuously improve health care quality, establish an effective coordination mechanism, and actively engage all stakeholders and professional bodies to oversee improvements in quality and performance. 3) Empowering patients with knowledge and understanding of health services, so that there is more trust in the system and patients are actively engaged in their healthcare decisions. 4) Reforming public hospitals, so that they focus on complicated cases and delegate routine care to primary-care providers. 5) Changing incentives for providers, so they are rewarded for good patient health outcomes instead of the number of medical procedures used or drugs sold. 6) Boosting the status of the health workforce, especially primary-care providers, so they are better paid and supported to ensure a competent health workforce aligned with the new delivery system. 7) Allowing qualified private health providers to deliver cost-effective services and compete on a level playing field with the public sector, with the right regulatory oversight, and 8) Prioritizing public investments according to the burden of disease, where people live, and the kind of care people need on a daily basis.
