The Silent Morning by Trudi Tate,Kate Kennedy Pdf

Now available in paperback, this study of the cultural impact of the Armistice of 11 November 1918 contains fourteen new essays from scholars working in literature, music, art history and military history. The Armistice brought hopes for a better future, as well as sadness, disappointment and rage. Many people in all the combatant nations asked hard questions about the purpose of the war. These questions are explored in complex and nuanced ways in the literature, music and art of the period. This book revisits the silence of the Armistice and asks how its effect was to echo into the following decades. The essays are genuinely interdisciplinary and are written in a clear, accessible style.

Silent Lucidity by Olivia Benson Pdf

In Judith Hermans book Trauma and Recovery: The Aftermath of Violence from Domestic Abuse to Political Terror, she emphasized how the conflict between the will to deny horrible events and the will to proclaim them aloud is the central dialectic of psychological trauma. Finding the words to tell my story has been a long journey. My coping was entrenched, and denial was strong. Healing from the messiness of childhood incest in and of itself is so shrouded with secrecy, shame, and humiliation that putting the words together in a way that will envelop an understanding of this atrocity that refused to be buried in my mind meant allowing myself to be vulnerable to the possibility of being shunned and dismissed as crazy. It is about getting well enough to speak about without emotionally unraveling and becoming vulnerable to the stigmas that get attached to mental health. While I have learned the significance of remaining silent until emotional health is obtained, the silence kept me isolated and ashamed for far too long. My book, my words, will shed light on how complicated the journey to health and wellness is while trying to maintain normalcy. It entwines normal life experiences and looks closely at the systems (family/relationships, educational, medical, mental health) and how they either helped or hurt the process. Without looking at the progression of my life, one could not see the dynamics of recovery. Sharing this journey will provide practitioners, both medical and mental health, with a personal perspective of the road to recovery. More importantly, I have tried to communicate my journey in a way that will allow all of us to come a little closer to facing the unspeakable, to take the power out of the word incest, and to help adult survivors break the cycle of silence.

The Silent Escape by Lena Constante Pdf

Winner, 1992 Association des Ecrivains de Langue Française Prix Européen "I have lived, alone, in a cell, 157,852,800 seconds of solitude and fear. Cause for screaming! They sentence me to live yet another 220,838,400 seconds! To live them or to die from them."--from The Silent Escape Victim of Stalinist-era terror, Lena Constante was arrested on trumped-up charges of "espionage" and sentenced to twelve years in Romanian prisons. The Silent Escape is the extraordinary account of the first eight years of her incarceration--years of solitary confinement during which she was tortured, starved, and daily humiliated. The only woman to have endured isolation so long in Romanian jails, Constante is also one of the few women political prisoners to have written about her ordeal. Unlike other more political prison diaries, this book draws us into the practical and emotional experiences of everyday prison life. Candidly, eloquently, Constante describes the physical and psychological abuses that were the common lot of communist-state political prisoners. She also recounts the particular humiliations she suffered as a woman, including that of male guards watching her in the bathroom. Constante survived by escaping into her mind--and finally by discovering the "language of the walls," which enabled her to communicate with other female inmates. A powerful story of totalitarianism and human endurance, this work makes an important contribution to the literature of "prison notebooks."

SILENT MUTINY by T.N. Venkatasubramanian Pdf

Life problems generally have subjective issues, and the habit of cigarette smoking is no exception. Unless these subjectivities or the individual perceptive mindsets are internally observed or understood ‘as-it-is’, the problems cannot be resolved through external remedies alone. Silent Mutiny is the nectar of the Author’s personal self-explorative journey and contains approaches that are individualistic, independent and also touch upon lessons learned or insights into universal strategies. INTERESTED READERS CAN WITNESS AN EXPERIENTIAL STORY FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE. 44 Transformational stories made the author's inward journey meaningful and to move closer to realizing 'The Truth'. Prologue Am I holding my smoking habit for fun? Or, does the addiction fasten me to hold on? Can I fix something else responsible? Or, can I deny I’m not sensible? Can I ever breathe ‘freedom’? Or, do I have the guts to explore my wisdom? Am I the Body or the Mind? Or, can I find out who is governing me? Am I an intelligent person? Or, can I employ my intellect? Am I the user of my intellect? Then who am I? Many such questions came up in my mind, Long after drawn into this smoky wind; Not successful in my attempts to quit, As the needed attention not given to it; Been searching solutions outside unknowingly, And reacted to get answers to these questions foolishly! Sat back and worked out to discover the secret, And paid special attention to understand my habit; For the smoking routines, cultivated abilities to respond, And tried to understand the ‘nature of mind’; Then happily harvested the yields of harmony, Buried deep inside the Body, Mind, Intelligence and Intellect. Often feared on seeing shadows in smoky darkness, Remained in it and waged futile fights; Lacked courage to face life’s meanings, Failed to experience beyond the practice of smoking; Had good skill in lighting cigarettes even in stormy wind, Realized to focus my Mind – Intellect – to ‘light a lamp’ in my Heart! The Silent Ones by William Brodrick Pdf

'All you have to do is find out why Harry is prepared to blame an innocent man. That's the thread. Follow it. You'll reach the Silent Ones. This is your way - our way - of making a difference.' With this challenge from Father Edmund Littlemore, Anselm returns to the Old Bailey to fight the most difficult and troubling case of his life. The man in the dock is Littlemore himself. He is charged with grave offences against Harry Brandwell who, it seems, is both a victim and a liar. But he's the only link to these others who've chosen silence over their right to justice. Unknown to Anselm, Robert Saunders, a journalist, has been investigating Littlemore's background. And he's a man with a troubled past, always on the move, from Boston in the USA to Freetown in Sierra Leone, finally running from a London police station rather than explain himself. More disturbingly, Robert uncovers details of a carefully planned scheme to entice Anselm back into court, exploiting his reputation for honesty to secure a shock acquittal. Meanwhile Harry Brandwell - abused, abandoned and betrayed - has decided to take matters into his own hands. The Silent Ones examines the one crime that Church, State and Family thought they could hide in their own best interests; Anselm's return is a compelling novel about the anatomy of silence, the courage of victims and the redemptive power of public justice.

"When the Morning Stars Sang" by Scott C. Jones,Christine Roy Yoder Pdf

During a moment of exponential growth and change in the fields of biblical and ancient Near Eastern studies, it is an opportune time to take stock of the state wisdom and wisdom literature with twenty-three essays honoring the consummate Weisheitslehrer, Professor Choon Leong Seow, Vanderbilt, Buffington, Cupples Chair in Divinity and Distinguished Professor of Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt University. This Festschrift is tightly focused around wisdom themes, and all of the essays are written by senior scholars in the field. They represent not only the great diversity of approaches in the field of wisdom and wisdom literature, but also the remarkable range of interests and methods that have characterized Professor Seow's own work throughout the decades, including the theology of the wisdom literature, the social world of Ecclesiastes, the history of consequences of the book of Job, the poetry of the Psalms, and Northwest Semitic Inscriptions, just to name a few.
