Als Hauptakteure dieser Auseinandersetzung stehen sich zwei Persönlichkeiten gegenüber: Hilla Rebay und Peggy Guggenheim. Das Wirken dieser beiden Frauen vor dem Hintergrund ihrer zunehmenden Gegnerschaft wird in einer umfassenden sozial- und kulturhistorischen Studie untersucht. Es soll einerseits verdeutlicht werden, wo Berührungspunkte zwischen den Sammlerinnen bestanden haben, andererseits soll die wachsende Rivalität der beiden Frauen näher beleuchtet werden.
