Incomes Policy and the Public Sector by Campbell Balfour Pdf
Originally published in 1972, Incomes Policy and the Public Sector is a consideration of the work conducted by The National Board for Prices and Incomes from 1965 to 1970. The Board, commonly known as the PIB, was intended to be the instrument through which an incomes policy could be shaped and guided in Britain. This book looks first at the reports that it made, and the criteria and judgements used, and then examines incomes policy by studying its impact in several areas in the public sector. Incomes Policy and the Public Sector offers a comprehensive overview of incomes policy from 1965-1970 and puts the reader in touch with ‘real economic situations’.

Managing the British Economy by Richard Bailey Pdf
First published in 1968 Managing the British Economy attempts to trace the development of what has passed for economic planning in Britain in the 1960’s and, at the same time, to observe the activities of those engaged in the operation and the effect of their actions on business and industry. In writing this book, the author has had in mind the difficulties of businessmen in keeping track of ‘who does what’ in the Economy. Experience in industry and in the field of management education has shown him that managers often have difficulties in placing their own operations in the national context and he attempts here to help the reader understand how the system works in practice. How do the new arrangements tie in with the old? How does any government influence the running of the economy? What kind of system are we moving towards? This is a must read for scholars and researchers of British economy and economic history of Britain.

Britain's Economy by Aubrey Jones Pdf
It has long been recognised that Britain has declined relatively to other countries, although there are differences of view both on the beginning of the decline and its causes. The author pinpoints two causes: first, a technological inferiority which has resulted in the country's exporting goods of poorer quality and importing goods of higher quality; secondly, the tendency for an upward pressure on incomes, from a society of political equals where each individual has expectations of a level of income reasonably comparable with others. The claims of different groups are easily accommodated in a semi-monopolistic industrial structure and are passed on in higher prices. Keynes recognised the latter problem of cost-push; but his intellectual revolution was not accompanied by a change of institutions, which continued to act in accordance with an earlier tradition. The present Government has reached a false diagnosis in ascribing the country's problems to too much money. It has therefore worsened the situation and weakened such hopes as there were of improvement.
