Book of Night by Holly Black Pdf

"A delicious, dark, adrenaline rush of a book. I'm already dying to see Charlie Hall's next con." - New York Times bestselling author, Alix E. Harrow #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black makes her stunning adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of betrayals, secret societies, and a dissolute thief of shadows, in the vein of Neil Gaiman and Erin Morgenstern. Charlie Hall has never found a lock she couldn’t pick, a book she couldn’t steal, or a bad decision she wouldn’t make. She's spent half her life working for gloamists, magicians who manipulate shadows to peer into locked rooms, strangle people in their beds, or worse. Gloamists guard their secrets greedily, creating an underground economy of grimoires. And to rob their fellow magicians, they need Charlie Hall. Now, she’s trying to distance herself from past mistakes, but getting out isn’t easy. Bartending at a dive, she’s still entirely too close to the corrupt underbelly of the Berkshires. Not to mention that her sister Posey is desperate for magic, and that Charlie's shadowless, and possibly soulless, boyfriend has been hiding things from her. When a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie descends into a maelstrom of murder and lies. Determined to survive, she’s up against a cast of doppelgangers, mercurial billionaires, gloamists, and the people she loves best in the world—all trying to steal a secret that will give them vast and terrible power. Ghosts of the Georgia Coast by Don Farrant Pdf

In this book, you'll find plenty of evidence that the supernatural is alive in the Golden Isles. Crumbling slave cabins, plantation homes and grand mansions, ancient forts, even a hospital that once cared for the five hundred slaves of Retreat Plantation -- all have their own aura, created by those long since dead. A silent Indian couple wanders, looking with pleading eyes to anyone who can help find something precious lost long ago. The ghost of a lonely woman still haunts the theater where she killed herself. Two men grapple with swords in a graveyard, replaying a scene from their lives again and again. -- A woman visiting an old inn experiences deja vu when she is transported to an elegant party that took place there a century before. The ghost of a young polo player killed in a bizarre horseback riding accident strides silently through the place that was his last destination on earth. These stories of restless souls, heartbroken lovers, skin-walkers, and protective spirits will give you a case of the creeps. Keep the lights on!

Turtle Croakies (Enchanting Inquiries, Book 10) by Sam Cheever Pdf

A frog, a cat, and a hobgoblin walk into a bar…in the Jurassic period. Nope…not kidding. Okay, maybe it wasn’t really a bar. But it was definitely the local drinking establishment. For dinosaurs… My old mentor, Alice Parker is back, and she’s brought a problem with her. A big one. One that’s already testing the sprite’s ability to keep it in lettuce and strawberries. It turns out that Alice has been on the run for a minute, trying to protect a magical tortoise from a dangerous sorceress who wants it for herself. You might be wondering why anybody would want to steal a tortoise. Well, if you had the chance to travel through time at the push of a button, or rather the press of a turtle’s shell, would you take it? Yeah, me neither. I have enough trouble dealing with this time and world… But clearly, we aren’t all diabolical magic users bent on our own empowerment. I mean, the possibilities for evil are unending if one can time-hop at will. Luckily, I have two cats, two frogs, and a hobgoblin to help me stave off the latest crisis. The only question is…what am I going to do with a former KoA who was as ineffectual at the Keeper’s job as the goddess’s torn pantyhose are at holding water. The only thing she’d been worse at was training me! And, more importantly, now that she’s here…how am I going to get rid of her? Holy turtle trousers, this Keeper gig gets more challenging by the day…or the millennia!

The Well of the Heads by Stuart McHardy Pdf

The origins of the Scottish clans go back over a thousand years, and for centuries these extended networks of families dominated life in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The warriors of the clan, fiercely loyal to each other and to their chief, were well known for their extraordinary courage and military skills. Retold by one of Scotland's most acclaimed storytellers, these stories illustrate the drama and the dynamism of a society which lived close to nature, had little in the way of material wealth but which boasted a remarkable treasure house of stories that were passed down over generations.

The Row House in Washington, DC by Alison K. Hoagland Pdf

With The Row House in Washington, DC, the architectural historian and preservationist Alison Hoagland turns the lucid prose style and keen analytical skill that characterize all her scholarship to the subject of the Washington row house. Row houses have long been an important component of the housing stock of many major American cities, predominantly sheltering the middle classes comprising clerks, tradespeople, and artisans. In Washington, with its plethora of government workers, they are the dominant typology of the historical city. Hoagland identifies six principal row house types—two-room, L-shaped, three-room, English-basement, quadrant, and kitchen-forward—and documents their wide-ranging impact, as sources of income and statements of attainment as well as domiciles for nuclear families or boarders, homeowners or renters, long tenancy or short stays. Through restrictive covenants on some house sales, they also illustrate the pervasive racism that has haunted the city. This topical study demonstrates at once the distinctive character of the Washington row house and the many similarities it shares with row houses in other mid-Atlantic cities. In a broader sense, it also shows how urban dwellers responded to a challenging concatenation of spatial, regulatory, financial, and demographic limitations, providing a historical model for new, innovative designs.
