The Parousia 3rd Edition by James Russell,David Clarke Pdf

James Stuart Russell's, 'High Praise For The Parousia', is an excellent work that looks at the New Testament teaching of the second coming of Jesus Christ, and the book of Revelation tells of those events leading up to and including his coming. Luke 23, verse 28. But Jesus turning into them said. 'Daughters of Jerusalem weep not for me, but weep for your selves and for your children. 29. For behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. 20 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains fall on us and to the hills cover us. 30. For if they do these things in the green tree what shall be done in the dry? The book of Revelation is a prophecy that Jesus gave to the Apostle John before the Neuronic persecution in 66 .A.D. He was told to write and inform the seven churches in Asia about those things that were shortly about to come to pass in his day. It relates to those things leading up to the destruction of Jerusalem and immediately afterwards. It told of the judgement God, styled the Day of Vengeance, on the city called Babylon for her sins and breach of the first Covenant. This Babylon was the city of Jerusalem who's people and leaders had rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and turned their back on the Mosaic covenant. The day of vengeance was day when the cup of God's wrath that was poured out on her who was called Mystery Babylon, The Mother of Harlots and this was to bring an end of rule of the Mosaic Law, bringing it to its fulfilment as Jesus had said I come not to destroy the law but to furl the Law and to bring in the New Covenant order called the law of Christ. It is impossible to understand the book of Revelation if one takes for granted that the date of its writing was after the fall and destruction by Titus, in 70 A.D. Most scholars assume the book was written about 96 A.D. 16 years after the event and so it has become impossible for them to establish a correct interpretation of the book.

Christ and Time, 3rd Edition by Oscar Cullmann Pdf

“The object of the present work is to determine what is central in the Christian proclamation. We are tempted to represent as the ‘kernel’ or ‘essence’ of this proclamation that which appeals to us personally, and to consider as external and dispensable ‘framework’ that which is strange to us. It is due to the richness of the Christian message that the question as to the central element from which all the other features are to be explained arises at all, and the endeavor to determine this central element must be designated the one great task of New Testament scholarship, and perhaps of all Christian theology.” —From the Foreword

Christ and the Bible, Third Edition by John Wenham Pdf

Defense of the Bible begins with rational proofs for the historicity and accuracy of its documents. Christ and the Bible places the argument for the authority of scripture squarely on Jesus. With uncluttered logic and straightforward prose Wenham marshals Gospel evidence to show Jesus' own view of Scripture-that it is (1) historically accurate, (2) authoritative, (3) the standard for ethics, and (4) the verbally inspired revelation of God. He then considers why we should listen to Jesus when he makes such claims and why "Christ's view should be the Christian view." The study substantiates Jesus' reliability influence on all New Testament writers. Finally, Wenham considers two related problems: first, which writings really belong in the Bible; second, the reliability of the text as now available. The presentation is easy to read and understand. This third edition updates and dialogs with recent developments.

The Second Advent by T. Francis Glasson Pdf

It is clear that there was a wider variety of Jewish beliefs concerning Messianic and eschatological matters than was often allowed for a few years ago. The view of Schweitzer that the scene was dominated by the hope of a transcendent Messiah descending in glory from the sky, the point of departure for his whole argument, is now seen to be quite unsound. I perhaps should have made it plainer in my original writing that I was attempting to face the challenge which Schweitzer gave by his notable book, The Quest of the Historical Jesus; the way in which I set out my material would have been seen more clearly had it been considered against the background of Schweitzer's book . . . --from the Preface to the Third Edition CONTENTS Part 1: The Parousia in Jewish Literature Extant in the Time of Jesus Part 2: The Parousia in the Teaching of Jesus Part 3: The Parousia in the Early Church Part 4: The Parousia in Jewish Writings of the Christian Era

Women's Bible Commentary, Third Edition by Carol A. Newsom,Sharon H. Ringe,Jacqueline E. Lapsley Pdf

The Women's Bible Commentary is a trusted, classic resource for biblical scholarship, written by some of the best feminist scholars in the field today. This twentieth anniversary edition features brand new or thoroughly revised essays to reflect newer thinking in feminist interpretation and hermeneutics. It comprises commentaries on every book of the Bible, including the apocryphal books; essays on the reception history of women in the Bible; and essays on feminist critical method. The contributors raise important questions and explore the implications of how women and other marginalized people are portrayed in biblical texts, looking specifically at gender roles, sexuality, political power, and family life, while challenging long-held assumptions. This commentary brings modern critical methods to bear on the history, sociology, anthropology, and literature of the relevant time periods to illuminate the context of these biblical portrayals and challenges readers to new understandings.

Eschatology by Pope Benedict XVI,Joseph Ratzinger Pdf

Originally published in English in 1988, Joseph Ratzinger's Eschatology remains internationally recognized as a leading text on the "last things"—heaven and hell, purgatory and judgment, death and the immortality of the soul. This highly anticipated second edition includes a new preface by Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI and a supplement to the bibliography by theologian Peter A. Casarella. Eschatology presents a balanced perspective of the doctrine at the center of Christian belief—the Church's faith in eternal life. Recognizing the task of contemporary eschatology as "to marry perspectives, so that person and community, present and future, are seen in their unity," Joseph Ratzinger brings together recent emphasis on the theology of hope for the future with the more traditional elements of the doctrine. His book has proven to be as timeless as it is timely.

God's Kingdom and God's Son by Robert Rowe Pdf

How is the kingdom of God related to Messianic kingship (or divine sonship)? Starting from what he terms a 'two-tier' kingship in the Psalms, Robert Rowe explores the linkage of these terms in Mark's gospel. The linked concepts - God's kingship and Davidic (Messianic) kingship - are traced from the Psalms and Isaiah 40-66, through the Dead Sea Scrolls and other inter-testamental documents, into Mark's gospel. Mark's characterization of Jesus as Messiah is shown to centre around four royal Psalms (2; 22; 110; 118). Contributing to the continuing study of the Old Testament in the New, Rowe argues that the concepts of God's kingdom and the Messiah are inherently closely related. This has importance both for the study of the historical Jesus, and for Mark's presentation of God and Jesus in his gospel.

LIFESAVER: Rescuing God's People from the PTR Ship by John F. Finkbeiner Pdf

Nothing is more crucial to survival during the dark days ahead than knowing the truth. While lies, evil schemes and frauds increase daily, one book— the Bible— stands in stark opposition to deceit. God’s Word shines as a beacon of light, directing the storm-tossed wayfarer safely to the peaceful shore. LIFESAVER was written to expose the hypocrisy, the abuse of trust and the fatal flaws in modern American Christianity’s most popular and trumpeted position on the end times— the Pre-tribulation rapture (PTR) view. Twenty-five (25) powerful arguments (called “Torpedoes”) are launched from LIFESAVER's pages; each argument sufficient to sink the PTR ship before it invites the innocent to board her for its last, doomed voyage. Without malice, angry rhetoric or unfair personal attacks, chapters such as “The Rapture Isn’t Next,” “Good Fiction,” “Desertion,” and “No Trouble,” dissect the clever speech, remove the façade and expose the holes in an interpretation of prophecy that will not hold water. The only weapon used by LIFESAVER in this war of ideas is Scripture that is rightly interpreted. Though shooting torpedoes at the flaws, fallacies and inaccuracies in the PTR ship must be done, LIFESAVER has another purpose: The author not only goes after the easy-to-target, weak, supporting pillars of PTR, such as “any moment rapture” and “Christians will escape the Tribulation,” but he provides a thoroughly rational and solidly Biblical alternative for Christians to embrace, the Pre-wrath rapture position. What LIFESAVER wants to alert every sincere believer to is that there is a true Biblical “eschatology” (Doctrine of Last Things) that surfaces when objectively utilizing the “Five Basic Rules of Bible Interpretation.” Sadly, because it threatens their power and prestige, knowledge of the Pre-wrath rapture view is the very thing the PTR elite tries to undermine with distortions or attempts to hide by shutting it out of the debate. As time runs out on this present age, the Spirit is awakening those who belong to God. It is time for the saints to understand what is false and what is genuine. Since Christ is coming soon, his people are not only to grasp what he has taught, but to proclaim his plan of salvation that was revealed by the prophets. Deliverance will come to those prepared to weather the most severe challenges that believers of any generation have ever faced. LIFESAVER, alongside the Bible, will help make the difference between catastrophe and triumph, between despair and everlasting joy, or between falling short and being an over-comer. It is time for truth; not feel-good theology. It is time for strong faith. It is time for LIFESAVER!
