The Preacher of Cedar Mountain: A Tale of the Open Country by Ernest Thompson Seton Pdf

“The Preacher of Cedar Mountain” Is a 1917 novel by Ernest Thompson Seton that tells the wonderful story of Jim Hartigan, an extremely good horseman who becomes a preacher to fulfil his mother's dream for him. The majority of the story concerns his various travails and vicissitudes along the road to realising this dream. A masterwork of classic fiction, this volume will appeal to fans of vintage American literature and it is not to be missed by those who have read and enjoyed other works by this author. Ernest Thompson Seton (1860 – 1946) was an English-born Canadian author and wildlife artist who founded the Woodcraft Indians in 1902. He was also among the founding members of the Boy Scouts of America, established in 1910. He wrote profusely on this subject, the most notable of his scouting literature including “The Birch Bark Roll” and the “Boy Scout Handbook”. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this book now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

The Preacher of Cedar Mountain by Ernest Seton Pdf

Ernest Thompson Seton (1860-1946) was a Scoto- Canadian (and naturalized U. S. citizen) who became a noted author, wildlife artist, founder of the Woodcraft Indians, and founding pioneer of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Seton also heavily influenced Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. His notable books related to Scouting include The Birch Bark Roll and The Boy Scout Handbook. He is responsible for the strong influence of American Indian culture in the BSA. As a youth, he retreated to the woods to draw and study animals. He won a scholarship in art to the Royal Academy in London, England. Seton developed a fascination for wolves while working as a naturalist for Manitoba. He became successful as a writer, artist and naturalist, later moving to New York City to further his career. He was an early pioneer of the modern school of animal fiction writing, his most popular work being Wild Animals I Have Known (1898), which has always been in print. Other works include: Lobo, Rag and Vixen (1899), Two Little Savages (1903) and Animal Heroes (1911).

The Big Book of Country Living by Ernest Thompson Seton Pdf

In a single volume Ernest Thompson Seton, renowned naturalist, writer, artist, and founding leader of the Boy Scouts of America, presents one of the most comprehensive guides to the outdoors ever written. Originally published in 1922 as The Book of Woodcraft, this work represents the culmination of years of observation and experience in the wilderness. Within these pages lie instructions and anecdotes—some expected, some delightfully unanticipated—regarding literally hundreds of arts, crafts, skills, and games. Here one can learn to distinguish edible plants from poisonous ones; start a fire using only a jackknife; build a four-store birdhouse out of a wooden box; communicate in sign language; tie a variety of essential knots; identify trees, wildflowers, animals, birds, and constellations; and much, much more.

Revival: The Gospel of the Redman (1937) by Ernest Thompson Seton,Julia Moss Seton Pdf

There is no Native American Bible, just as there was no Pentateuch written by Moses, no Tripitika by Buddha, no Dialogues by Socrates, no Gospels written by Christ. The Native American teachings in the fields of art, handicraft, woodcraft, agriculture, social life, health, and joy, need no argument beyond presentation; they speak for themselves. This book, originally published in 1937, offers these teachings under the author's belief that the example and precept are what the world needs above any other ethical teaching, and in particular, the spiritual message, which is more important, but supposedly less understood.
