The Prophet of Berkeley Square: A Play in Five Acts by Frank J. Morlock,Robert Hichens Pdf

Based on the novel of the same title by the British writer, Robert Smythe Hichens (1864-1950), THE PROPHET OF BERKELEY SQUARE is a send-up of the astrology and psychic reading craze that so permeated London society circa 1900. With its witty dialogue and hilarious plot, Frank Morlock's adaptation of Hichens's satiric masterpiece is just as funny today as the bestselling novel was when first published in 1901. Hennessey Vivian, the would-be Prophet of Berkeley Square, must fend off his rival, Jupiter Malkiel II, to secure the devotion of enough fashionable adherents to win the prophecy "battle of the stars." The over-the-top characters are easily recognizable as familiar types in today's modern society. Great comedic drama!

The Prophet of Berkeley Square by Robert Hichens Pdf

The great telescope of the Prophet was carefully adjusted upon its lofty, brass-bound stand in the bow window of Number One Thousand Berkeley Square. It pointed towards the remarkably bright stars which twinkled in the December sky over frosty London, those guardian stars which always seemed to the Prophet to watch with peculiar solicitude over the most respectable neighbourhood in which he resided. The polestar had its eye even now upon the mansion of an adjacent ex-premier, the belt of Orion was not oblivious of a belted earl's cosy red-brick home just opposite, and the house of a certain famous actor and actress close by had been taken by the Great Bear under its special protection. The Prophet's butler, Mr. Ferdinand-that bulky and veracious gentleman-threw open the latticed windows of the drawing-room and let the cold air rush blithely in. Then he made up the fire carefully, placed a copy of Mr. Malkiel's Almanac, bound in dull pink and silver brocade by Miss Clorinda Dolbrett of the Cromwell Road, upon a small tulip-wood table near the telescope, patted a sofa cushion affectionately on the head, glanced around with the meditative eye of the butler born not made, and quitted the comfortable apartment with a salaried, but soft, footstep.

Berkeley Street Theatre by Jeanne C. DeFazio Pdf

Berkeley Street Theatre chronicles Christian World Liberation Front's 1969-1975 ministry to the counterculture. Founded by Jack Sparks, CWLF was featured in the June 1971 Time Magazine's epic "Jesus Revolution" edition. Reverend Billy Graham sponsored the CWLF outreach and referred to CWLF as a highly effective outreach to the counterculture. The book included a foreword by David W. Gill, former CWLF leader, scholar, and author, contributing chapters from BST's members: Gene Burkett, Charlie Lehman, Susan Dockery Andrews, Father James Bernstein, and Jeanne DeFazio, editor of the book. Part Two of this work outlines Christian Guerilla theater following the timeline of BST with contributing chapters from: JMD Myers, Joanne Petronella, Jozy Pollock, Olga Soler, and Sheri Pedigo. William David Spencer's afterword details the cultural contributions of the Jesus movement. This book will appeal to the baby boom generation as well as millennials. It is a resource work for anyone interested in religious history, Christian theater and the arts, and in how baby boomers embraced the Jesus Movement. The photos of BST's Sproul Plaza performances will charm all readers.
