The book contains the Annals, written by the Roman historian and senator Tacitus. It is a historical account of the Roman Empire from the reign of Tiberius to that of Nero, and this particular volume focuses specifically on sections regarding the reign of Tiberius. The Annals are an important source for modern understanding of the history of the Roman Empire during the 1st century AD. They are Tacitus' final work, and are generally considered to be his greatest writing by modern historians. Historian Ronald Mellor has called the Annals Tacitus's crowning achievement, representing the pinnacle of Roman historical writing.

The REIGN of TIBERIUS, OUT of the FIRST SIX ANNALS of TACITUS (Annotated) by Tacitus Tacitus Pdf

"I am going to offer to the publick the Translation of a work, which, for wisdom and force, is in higher fame and consideration, than almost any other that has yet appeared amongst men:" it is in this way, that Thomas Gordon begins The Discourses, which he has inserted into his rendering of Tacitus; and I can find none better to introduce this volume, which my readers owe to Gordon's affectionate and laborious devotion. Caius Cornelius Tacitus, the Historian, was living under those Emperors, who reigned from the year 54 to the year 117, of the Christian era; but the place and the date of his birth are alike uncertain, and the time of his death is not accurately known. He was a friend of the younger Pliny, who was born in the year 61; and, it is possible, they were about the same age. Some of Pliny's letters were written to Tacitus: the most famous, describes that eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which caused the death of old Pliny, and overwhelmed the cities of Pompeii and of Herculaneum.

The Reign Of Tiberius, Out Of The First Six Annals Of Tacitus: With His Account Of Germany, And Life Of Agricola, Translated By Thomas Gordon, Edited By Arthur Galton This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

The Reign of Tiberius by Cornelius Tacitus Pdf

Kings were the original Magistrates of Rome: Lucius Brutus founded Liberty and the Consulship: Dictators were chosen occasionally, and used only in pressing exigencies. Little more than two years prevailed the supreme power of the Decemvirate, and the consular jurisdiction of the military Tribunes not very many. The domination of Cinna was but short, that of Sylla not long. The authority of Pompey and Crassus was quickly swallowed up in Caesar; that of Lepidus and Anthony in Augustus. The Commonwealth, then long distressed and exhausted by the rage of her civil dissensions, fell easily into his hands, and over her he assumed a sovereign dominion...

The Reign of Tiberius, Out of the First Six Annals of Tacitus by Caius Cornelius Tacitus Pdf

Publius (Gaius/Caius) Cornelius Tacitus (c56-c117) was a senator and a historian of the Roman Empire. The surviving portions of his two major works - the Annals and the Histories - examine the reigns of the Roman Emperors Tiberius, Claudius, Nero and those that reigned in the Year of the Four Emperors. These two works span the history of the Roman Empire from the death of Augustus in 14 AD to the death of emperor Domitian in 96 AD. There are significant lacunae in the surviving texts. Other works by Tacitus discuss oratory (Dialogus de Oratoribus), Germania (De Origine et Situ Germanorum), and biographical notes about his father-in-law Agricola, primarily during his campaign in Britannia (De Vita et Moribus Lulii Agricolae). Tacitus' historiographical style in his major works is annalistic. An author writing in the latter part of the Silver Age of Latin literature, his work is distinguished by a boldness and sharpness of wit, and a compact and sometimes unconventional use of Latin.

The Reign of Tiberius, Out of the First Six Annals of Tacitus (Esprios Classics) by Caius Cornelius Tacitus Pdf

Publius (or Gaius) Cornelius Tacitus (c. AD 56 - c. 120) was a Roman historian and politician. Tacitus is considered by modern scholars to be one of the greatest Roman historians. He lived in what has been called the Silver Age of Latin literature, and has a reputation for the brevity and compactness of his Latin prose, as well as for his penetrating insights into the psychology of power politics. The surviving portions of his two major works-the Annals and the Histories-examine the reigns of the emperors Tiberius, Claudius, Nero, and those who reigned in the Year of the Four Emperors (69 AD). These two works span the history of the Roman Empire from the death of Augustus, in 14 AD, to 70 AD in the First Jewish-Roman War of 66-73.
