Dr. Abdur–Rahman's life journey took on an unusual evolutionary process from delinquency to adult court, long–term incarceration, rehabilitation, and a progressive and productive life. From Pop Warner quarterback to one of the most recognized drug dealers in Philadelphia and one of the most influential people on the campus of one of America's most historic universities. In this book, Dr. Abdur–Rahman has presented a case study of an at–risk youth and ex–felon that demonstrated the example that, if given healthy information, one can avoid and even transcend the environmental influences and dysfunction that create negative outcomes. In addition, he has given working professionals in the field of delinquency prevention ideas that can help them develop their own successful methodologies and has proven a vital need for "Clean Slate" legislation to create a second–chance forum, so other successfully transitioned ex–felons do not have to hide their past and employers can feel comfortable hiring ex–felons. Ecclesiastes and the Riddle of Authorship by Thomas M. Bolin Pdf

In Ecclesiastes, the authorial voice of Qohelet presents an identity that has challenged readers for centuries. This book offers a reception history of the different ways readers have constructed Qohelet as an author. Previous reception histories of Ecclesiastes group readings into "premodern" and "critical," or separate Jewish from Christian readings. In deliberate contrast, this analysis arranges readings thematically according to the interpretive potential inherent in the text, a method of biblical reception history articulated by Brennan Breed. Doing so erases the artificial distinctions between so-called scholarly and confessional readings and highlights the fact that many modern academic readings of the authorship of Ecclesiastes travel in well-worn interpretive paths that long predate the rise of critical scholarship. Thus this book offers a reminder that, while critical biblical scholarship is an essential part of the interpretive task, academic readings are themselves indebted to the Bible’s reception history and a part of it.

The Riddle of the Image by Spike Bucklow Pdf

From monumental church mosaics to fresco wall-paintings, the medieval period produced some of the most impressive art in history. But how, in a world without the array of technology and access to materials that we now have, did artists produce such incredible works, often on an unbelievably large scale? In The Riddle of the Image, research scientist and art restorer Spike Bucklow discovers the actual materials and methods that lie behind the production of historical paintings. Examining the science of the tools and resources, as well as the techniques of medieval artists, Bucklow adds new layers to our understanding and appreciation of paintings in particular and medieval art more generally. He uses case studies—including The Wilton Diptych, one of the most popular paintings in the National Gallery in London and the altarpiece in front of which English monarchs were crowned for centuries—and analyses of these works, presenting previously unpublished technical details that shed new light on the mysteries of medieval artists. The first account to examine this subject in depth for a general audience, The Riddle of the Image is a beautifully illustrated look at the production of medieval paintings.

The Riddle of the Infinite or Ananta by Jayant Burde Pdf

This book explores the bizarre but fascinating world of infinity in different disciplines of knowledge; mathematics, science, philosophy and religion. It projects the views of eastern as well as western scholars. This world is not only mysterious but also treacherous and conceals many conundrums such as a multitude of infinities, the mystic's experience of the infinite, conception of God as absolute infinity. Washington and the Riddle of Peace by H. G. Wells Pdf

After the horrors of World War One, the world was ready for peace. So, in 1921, nine countries came together for a summit in Washington DC to talk disarmament. One visitor to the conference was world famous sci-fi writer H.G. Wells. "Washington and the Riddle of Peace" collects together twenty nine articles he wrote about the event, which were originally published in various magazines and newspapers. He writes with both optimism and pessimism about the talks, wanting to believe in humankind’s better nature but wary of countries’ insatiable appetite for power and money. Less than two decades later of course, Wells’ worst fears would be proved correct. H.G. Wells (1866–1946) was an English author often called the "father of science fiction". His work popularised some of the genre’s most abiding concepts, such as time travel and parallel universes, while also exploring social issues of the day. Among his most famous books are "The Time Machine", "The Island of Doctor Moreau", "The Invisible Man" and "The First Men in the Moon". Wells was also one of the first writers to imagine an alien invasion. In "The War of the Worlds" he depicts a devastating attack by Martians, who stalk the earth in huge metal tripods. Orson Welles famously created an American radio version in the 1930s, panicking some listeners who thought it was a real news bulletin. The book has been adapted for the screen many times, including a movie starring Tom Cruise and a BBC television series.
