The Sacred Writings of Eusebius Pamphilus (Annotated Edition) by St. Pamphilus Pdf

"The Sacred Writings Of ..." provides you with the essential works among the Early Christian writings. The volumes cover the beginning of Christianity until before the promulgation of the Nicene Creed at the First Council of Nicaea. This volume is accurately annotated, including * an extensive biography of the author and his life This edition comprises the following works: 'The Church History' or 'Ecclesiastical History' - Eusebius and Pamphilus wrote the first surviving history of the Christian Church as a chronologically-ordered account, based on earlier sources complete from the period of the Apostles to their own epoch. This "historical account" has much of Eusebius's own theological agenda intertwined with the factual text including his view on God, Christ, the Scriptures, the Jews, the church, pagans, and heretics. 'The Life of Constantine' (Vita Constantini) is a eulogy or panegyric, and therefore its style and selection of facts are affected by its purpose, rendering it inadequate as a continuation of the Church History. As the historian Socrates Scholasticus said, at the opening of his history that was designed as a continuation of Eusebius, "Also in writing the life of Constantine, this same author has but slightly treated of matters regarding Arius, being more intent on the rhetorical finish of his composition and the praises of the emperor, than on an accurate statement of facts." The work was unfinished at Eusebius' death. Some scholars have questioned the Eusebian authorship of this work. 'Oration in Praise of Constantine', an eulogy.

"The Sacred Writings Of ..." provides you with the essential works among the Early Christian writings. The volumes cover the beginning of Christianity until before the promulgation of the Nicene Creed at the First Council of Nicaea. This volume is accurately annotated, including * an extensive biography of the author and his life Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335 – c. 395) (also known as Gregory Nyssen) was bishop of Nyssa from 372 to 376, and from 378 until his death. He is venerated as a saint in Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, Lutheranism and Anglicanism. Gregory, his brother Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nazianzus are collectively known as the Cappadocian Fathers Gregory lacked the administrative ability of his brother Basil, or the contemporary influence of Gregory of Nazianzus, but was an erudite theologian who made significant contributions to the doctrine of the Trinity and the Nicene creed. Gregory's philosophical writings were influenced by Origen, and he is generally considered to have believed in universal salvation. Since the mid-twentieth century, there has been a significant increase in interest in Gregory's works from the academic community, which has resulted in challenges to many traditional interpretations of his theology. Symbols and Themes in Sacred Texts by Barnabas Tiburtius Pdf

In this information age, the need for explicit meaning in scriptures and rituals is a vital ingredient that is lacking. The literal interpretations and obligatory rituals have left a void in the individual’s spiritual journey and hence, the increasing disappointment in organized religions. There are 50 articles in this book whose contents aim to provide a deeper spiritual meaning that is conveyed through certain specific symbols and themes such as Agni or Fire, Cave, Cloud, twice-born, Four beasts, Dragon, Trilogy, Hero, Charioteer, Hostile brothers, Inner demon, East, Nakedness, Reincarnation, Redemption, Deluge, Sword, and Twins. These common symbols and themes, across many mythologies and the spiritual significance they convey, are brought out so that the higher nature of man and the spiritual path one has to traverse can be indicated. The very fact that man seeks a higher and more meaningful knowledge denotes that he is on a path to exploring his true nature or awake to his true self. These symbols and themes cut across all dominant spiritual traditions such as Vedic, Buddhist, Hebraic, Christian, and Islamic religions. Symbols and Themes in Sacred Texts contain the key to unlock the spiritual treasure hidden from humanity through literal and archaic cultural interpretations.

Not illustrated. 1872 edition. Excerpt: ... the protection of the divine power, so that in the reign of Alexander of Macedon they sustained no injury from him, although t DEGREES.ey refused/ on account of certain covenants and oaths, to talw up arvns against Darius. They say that on that occasion the Jewish high priest, clothed in his sacred robe, received obeisance from Alexander, who declared that he had beheld an individual arrayed in this fashion, who announced to him in his sleep that he was to be the subjugator of the whole of Asia. Accordingly, we Christians maintain that "it was the fortune of that people in a remarkable degree to enjoy God's favour, and to be loved by Him in a way different from others;" but that this economy of things and this divine favour were transferred to us, after Jesus had conveyed the power which had been manifested among the Jews to those who had become converts to Him from among the heathen. And for this reason, although the Romans desired to perpetrate many atrocities against the Christians, in order to ensure their extermination, they were unsuccessful; for there was a divine hand which fought on their behalf, and whose desire it was that the word of God should spread from one corner of the land of Judea throughout the whole human race. ClIAPTER li. But seeing that we have answered to the best of our ability the charges brought by Celsus against the Jews and their doctrine, let us proceed to consider what follows, and to prove that it is no empty boast on our part when we make a profession of knowing the great God, and that we have not been led away by any juggling tricks1 of Moses (as Celsus imagines), or even of our own Saviour Jesus; but that for a good end we listen to the God who speaks in Moses, and have accepted Jesus, whom he testifies to...
