The Justification of a Sinner by William Pemble Pdf

Is justification by the finished work of Christ alone, or is it a combination of the work of Christ and man? Does God accept anything less than perfection? How is a sinner able to stand before a holy God? No questions are of more eternal significance than these--questions which have divided the Protestant and Roman church for centuries. William Pemble (1591-1623) looks at the issues and shows how faith alone in the finished work of Christ is what justifies. He specifically challenges the teaching of the Council of Trent as taught by Robert Bellarmine, the Roman church's champion of that era.

Not illustrated. 1854 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER IV. REASONABLENESS OF THE DOCTRINE OF ATONEMENT-- ITS HARMONY WITH THE VAST EXTENT OF CREATION, AND WITH THE CHARACTER OF GOD. Section I. Harmony Of The Doctrine With Reason. If there is a God who created us, if we have all sinned against hiin, and if there is reason to believe that he will call us to account for our conduct, all which principles are generally admitted, a gloomy prospect must needs present itself, sufficient indeed to render man " the slave of terror." It is not in the power of any man living who rejects the Bible, to assure us that pardon will have any place in the divine government; and however light he may make of the scripture doctrine of hell, He who calls men to account for their deeds will be at no loss how or where to punish them. But allowing that God is disposed to show mercy to the guilty, the question is, whether his doing so by or without a mediator be most consistent with what we know of fitness or propriety. /- That pardon is bestowed through a mediator in a vast variety of instances among men, cannot be denied; and that it is proper it should be so, must be evident to every thinking mind. All who are acquainted with the common affairs of life must be aware of the necessity of such proceedings, and the good effects of them upon society. It is far less humbling for an offender to be pardoned at his own request, than through the interposition of a third person; for in the one case, he may be led to think that it was his virtue and penitence which influenced the decision; whereas, in the other, he is compelled to feel his own unworthiness: and this may be one reason why the mediation of Christ is so offensive. It is no wonder, indeed, that those who deny humility to be a virtue, as Volney and many...

Keep Believing: Finding God in Your Deepest Struggles (2019 Edition) by Dr. Ray Pritchard Pdf

The biggest barrier to faith is life itself. Divorce. Cancer. Infertility. Death. There are times in our lives in which God seems very far away. We don't understand His silence. We only feel the intensity of our pain and the echoing question of 'why?' The Bible declares that God is good, but can we still believe this when our lives are falling apart? In Keep Believing, Dr. Pritchard affirms what the Bible declares: that God is good and His mercy endures forever. This is true regardless of our moment-by-moment experience. God has provided comfort in our times of struggle and healing in our times of hurt through the balm of His Word. You believed in the light of day; will you still believe at midnight? Search the Scriptures with Dr. Pritchard for words of encouragement and hope. Put your confidence in the God who sorrowfully watched His Son suffer at Calvary for your benefit. Know that the same loving heavenly Father has everything completely under control. He is with you and longs to comfort you as you struggle through your hard times. Take a tell-tale look at your devotion to the Lord and His never-ending love and commitment to you in Keep Believing. You served God in the sunshine; will you now serve him in the shadows?

The Sinner's Justifying Righteousness by John Beart Pdf

In this amazing work on the sinner’s justifying righteousness, Beart biblically and forcefully combats unbiblical views of justification, and teaches the reader what it means to stand before God in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. It is, in fact, a hearty work on the ever-important doctrine of justification. Beart covers , 1) the Law of God as a rule of duty and obedience, 2) how fallen man is utterly unable to answer the demands of the law, 3) how fallen man is unable to fulfill such a righteousness as is required to justification, and 4) how Jesus Christ fulfilled the law on behalf of the elect. He also covers the intricacies of how believers are made righteous only through Christ’s person, in his obedience and suffering, and that this justifying righteousness is equally imputed to all elect believers. This is accomplished by faith as an instrument. Not that faith is the matter of our justification, nor meritorious cause of it; but is used in this only as an instrument, not as a work. This is not a scan or facsimile, has been updated in modern English for easy reading and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

The Atonement of Christ, and the Justification of the Sinner (Classic Reprint) by Andrew Fuller Pdf

Excerpt from The Atonement of Christ, and the Justification of the Sinner In looking into the composition of the human mind we observe various passions and propensities; and if we inspect their operations, we shall see in each a marked aversion from the true God, and from all true religion. For example: Man loves to think, and cannot live without thinking; but he does not love to think of God; God is not in all his thoughts. Man delights in activity, is perpetually in motion, but has no heart to act for God. Men take pleasure in conversation, and are never more cheerful than when engaged in it; but if God and religion be introduced, they are usually struck dumb, and show an inclination to drop the subject. Men greatly de light in hearing and telling news but if the glorious news of the gospel be sounded in their ears, it fre quentlv 'proves as unwelcome as Paul's preaching at Athens. In fine, man feels the necessity of a God, but has no relish for the true God. There is a remarka ble instance of this in the conduct of these nations planted by the king of Assyria in the cities of Sa maria. They were consumed by wild beasts, and considered it as an expression of displeasure from the god of the land. They wished to become ao quainted with him, that they might please him. An Israelitish priest is sent to teach them the manner of the god of the land. But when he taught them the fear of Jehovah, his character and worship do not seem to have suited their taste; for each nation pre ferred the worship of its own gods. 2 Kings, 17. The Doctrine of Justification by James Buchanan Pdf

James Buchanan (1804–1870) was a Scottish minister and theologian. He joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1843, and succeeded Thomas Chalmers as professor of systematic theology at the New College of the Free Church in Edinburgh in 1847, a post he held for twenty-one years. Buchanan's magnum opus was The Doctrine of Justification, which still has great value as a classic treatment of the article by which Martin Luther says the church stands or falls. He covers biblical, systematic, and historical ground in his work, but is never far from a warm-hearted evangelical delight in the doctrines he is expounding.
